Thx. Excellent- I remember watching this great series & recording this program on our VHS rec. I probably still have tape somewhere, not quality like this. 😂The Hazel O’Connor show on series was also superb.
Actually, Fletch was never as bad as everyone said. I remember being at one of their early gigs and was watching the soundcheck. Back then, the drum tapes were all on cassette, and Dave Gahan would change them between songs and they used beer crates as keyboard stands with towels over them. The backing tapes had drums and effect sounds on them and very little, if any, music. Also, whenever he made a mistake live, Fletch tended to look around to see who noticed. It was his tell 🙂
14:04 That very moment when Martin adds resonance and plays with the filter cutoff .. PS: Congrats for uploading this historical footage. Best audio/picture ever seen.
Tasty like a raindrop! Short, sweet and excellent in every way! 4,2/5. Throbbing with synthesized hits. The vision mixer did his job well, enhancing, but never distracting from, the performances. A taste of the early 80's. Now where did I park that time machine. It must be around somewhere...
I was there. Tickets were completely free, you just had to apply to Southern TV to be in the audience. Duran Duran also played at the Festival Theatre for Off The Record. Sadly I didn't manage to get tickets for that one.
@@drakedaigo As it was filmed just for TV, they only played 8 songs on the night. It was filmed at the end of their UK tour promoting Speak & Spell Tour when they played a full set.
@MaxisMaximal it was at the Beverly Theatre in Los Angeles (now gone) I'm guessing there were a few hundred, not full by any means.. saw Simple Minds there that same year! the New Romantic scene was the thing back then.. lots of bang haircuts and fancy shirts and scrunchy boots..
Bravissimo the first song photographic pictures is very industrial sound I'm not a fan of Depeche mode but I like Vince Clark this first album of group is great... Like joy Division in synthy pop...
Loads of it is tape. Loads. Listen to the intro to Puppets. The basslines all are. The ability to play with that kind of precision is rare. I've seen session men sound really loose playing basslines. If this was completely live it would sound like a car crash.

Awesome! Detail: no playback on synths, all live performance (only tape on percussion/drums). Good times!
Baseline is on sequence. No way Fletch can sync that 4/4 baseline live like this.
@@winterland2011100%. If Alan Wilder had played the basslines it would have sounded loose and messy, nevermind Fletch.
TORA TORA TORA .!!!

and Daves "hand-made" effect. I always thought thats a noise OSC or something :D 14:50

so geil, dass konzert..!!!
Great remaster!
That Moog The Source that Fletch is playing was used for most of the bass lines on A Broken Frame album, you can hear it best in the See You track.

Awesome footage!

was this the actual set list or they played other songs?

Awesome! Tks for posting this memorabilia!!!👍👌😍😊
Lovely!
Fletch plays! 🙂
I saw them live in 1981 first US tour! ❤
How big was the audience?

Thank you for upload this, it's amazing 🥰😍
Just one thing missing (as usual). " I like it" , the legendary lost track that I love so much.
Use the Yadif deinterlacing filter in field mode with avidemux to create a proper 50fps using the interlaced original. It'll look amazing!
Electric 👍🙏
Filmed at tvs studio’s in Maidstone Kent ,Thomas Dolby done one of these , anyone got it ?
I didn't know Shia LaBouf was the lead singer of this band.
🥰👍❤❤❤👍🥰
Sir David Callcott
Sir Martin Lee Gore
Sir Vincent John Martin
Sir Andrew John Leonard Fletcher
Vince Clark ;)
... then there were 2 😔
Real names
Thank you! As already mentioned, totally live apart from the drums/ percussion. Go Fletch on that synth bass 😎
No way Photographic bassline is Fletch live synchronizing to the 4/4 beat.

The moment in history when Fletch actually was a humble synth bass player and not the best hands waver/clapper in the world.
The synthesizer can be playing on loop, or a background, and your hands could be free for a moment. Rest in peace Fletch 🖤
I'd be very surprised if Fletch is playing much of anything. He definitely isn't playing those basslines.
All of the Tracks are pretty cool except the last one. that one is pretty shitty so to speak
Still better than skinny jeans and untucked shirt
Hey, you're such a pretty boy...
