    Hey, this adding a PNP transistor and a diode in the FET driver circuit really helps the efficiency! I am driving a STP60NF06 and I am putting a good bunch of current through that fet. I put the series doide and the PNP transistor across gate to source on fet and amazing. Before I was hitting that fet with pulses about 90us and the fet was cooking hot in about 4 to 5 mins, with your arrangement the fet hardly gets warm, "about body temperature" with that pulse width after 15 mins. I have been upping the -on pulse time, and I am really impressed.
    Great help! You must be a smart guy. I like that kind of help!

      @@FoolishEngineer of course I will, thx to your sharing, maybe I've seen a schematic or diagram on a resistor component, or a capacitor or maybe a diode, connected between the collector & emitter, what is the purpose of that, have you made a video about this? thank you 👍🏻🙏🏻✨

    If possible make a video discussing various high side & low side drivers with some basic explanation of their specifications. ( reading data sheet is not easy, if you could provide what to look for in data sheet it will be good)

    Good ideas and explanation.
    What about the differences between the p channel and n channel in this kind of curcuit. Could a negatively operated device switch on and off quicker with similar supporting circuitry?

    Hi I'm trying to run a 12V car fan with a power mosfet, but I'm having issues, the Mosfet is perfectly warm, no excess, but the reverse current diode I can fry eggs on it... Can you help me make a circuit from a microcontroller output of (preferably) 3.3v to the mosfet so that does't happen? Tried several frequencies, the higher the worst (I actually wanted to go upwards of 10khz to lower the noise of it)... Driving a half H bridge there are several cheap options like IR2101, but to drive just 1 N-channel mosfet nothing, its expensive or unavailable usually! Thanks and great videos!!!

    Question i use the diodes and pnp transistor to drive my inverter and dc to dc converter but when I try to use it in buck converter the mosfets heating up in positive buck converter but don’t heat up at low side buck converter I try rising the voltage to 20 volt but still heating with no load so I wonder why the boostrap 15 volt drive the high side without heating up but 20 volt do without the boostrap

    The third solution with the 2 NPN transistors will not work as you described. When driver is turned off, the base voltage for Q1 is only supplied via the FET gate capacitance. If the gate of the FET is at 0.7V the Q1 is turned off and cannot further discharge the gate capacitance. But also the turn on process is critical. You have the voltage drop of the forward diode and the voltage divider (two resistors before and after the diode) which will decrease the turn on behavior. I would not use any shown solutions.

    in the pnp structure, it seems that the pnp speed should be faster than the fet switch. so how should i find a fast(er than fet) pnp BJT?

    • @FoolishEngineer
      @FoolishEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can find faster PNP BJTs but you won't be able to drive heavy loads with it

    Should the NPN & PNP turn off circuits only be used when the MOSFET source is connected to ground then?

    • @JensOverby
      @JensOverby ปีที่แล้ว

      This is really an important question, and I would also very much like an answer to this. Does it only work when source is connected to ground, or can it also work for the high-side mosfet in a half bridge?
