I always say this when Cosmodread comes up, but this game felt overlooked when it originally came out and I think it's a really nice indie horror game. For the price, it's a great deal, and has a natural offputting tone that puts you on edge (similar to Dreadhalls all those years ago when playing it on the DK1 and DK2). I imagine it'll look even nicer on the PSVR2's OLED screen, considering how much Cosmodread relies on darkness, and the PS5 is able to handle the shadows and multiple light sources of the flashlight a lot better than the Quest 2.
I've seen others not really get what the game is wanting the player to do as far as crafting goes, so that still seems like an issue the game could be better at. Still, 15 bucks, it's so cheap and is at least a fun game to make someone new to VR mess around in and get scared to death.
I was too scared to play horror games on vr1 but forced myself to complete resi 8 and loved it so I got cosmodread on day 1 and really enjoying it, bring on resi 4.
Well, I guess I’ll be grabbing my heart monitor for next week’s Let’s Play… 😰
Devs missed the opportunity on calling it "Dread Space".
I was so happy hearing that you too were at a loss how to craft. I just roamed the halls shooting monsters, would run out of ammo and then meet my eventual demise. Only to do it over and over again. Learning a bit more each time.
The definition of a "hidden gem" especially if you like any kind of horror. I love the bleak sci fi atmosphere, so creepy and generally scary. I think I need to stream this sometime.
Looks like a pretty good game! I bet it looks great in the PSVR2's OLED. I'm surprised you didnt mention how it compares to The Persistence.
This may be the closest we get to Dead Space in VR. I'm all in. Great review Bryan!
It does definitely capture some of that Dead Space tension, with a bit of The Persistence thrown in for good measure (obviously on a considerably lower budget than either of those titles).
Great video my man can't wait to give this a go. The last game that truly gave me any type of actual fear was Resident Evil Biohazard while I was playing by myself out to camp at 2 in the morning. That made me start hearing crap that wasn't there
I played it on PCVR and its a great game if you like horror and roguelikes.
The environment is a bit repetitive and its all dark all the time (I think horror is more effective when you have some breaks/unscary places like the save rooms in RE) so I'd probably score it an 8.
I hope this dev continues making more horror roguelikes!

Excellent review- I’m really enjoying this one and at 15 bucks, it feels like a steal. Hopefully Cosmodread doesn’t get lost in the sea of low budget indie games. This one is a classic for me for sure.
I grabbed it, I tried it, it’s scary and confusing, and I ran out of ammo immediately.
I love knowing it delivers the goods, but I also fear those goods. So… It’s going into my backlog as far back as I can shove it. 😅

Stick with it, GB! It *is* kinda bewildering at first, in fact it's pretty much designed to make you feel utterly clueless, powerless and hopeless for your first several runs.
I promise you, it does become more and more rewarding and satisfying the more you play it. I'm about 6-7 hours in, and I just managed a 90% completion run (my best yet).
It has it's hooks in me now, and I'm already itching to get back in, armed not only with better kit from schematics i have found, but more importantly my new found understanding of my enemies and how to deal with them.
Hey for $15 I am loving it. A bit jarring after experiencing the crisp nature of Red Matter 2 but a fun game play loop. Weirdly enough my son is super into. S&S, RE8, Pavlov none of those games interested my kid at all but he played this nonstop until he ran his mom's controller's down multiple times.
Great review Bryan, they certainly nailed the atmosphere and gameplay for me, I nearly passed on it as I already have it on quest 2, but decided to take a look and I’m glad I did, totally agree about the haptics, they a bit of ramping up
Kinda reminds me of NMS Derelict Freighters with enemies.
Reminds me of The Persistence. I really wish that would get ported to PSVR2

I just got this, I didn't expect to be scared by it, but it's gotten me pretty good a few times. Looking behind me to see a monster chasing you in VR is pretty spooky. It's great so far!

It was a beautiful game! I beat the game on my 4th playthrou. Loved the spiders hiding in the lockers
I recently found this game and im loving it! So much fun crawling around the space station! And it manages to give me a good spook now and then!
How sharp is it compared to RE8, Red Matter 2 etc?
I'm gonna go with "sharp enough". It's not Red Matter 2 resolution, but I'm happy with the way it looks. You'll generally only hear me complain if it's an issue

I love this game.
Hilarious that all your early runs are really, really hard ... and repeated play results in unlocking modifiers ... that make the game much, much harder!!!
Of course, you do eventually unlock some *helpful* modifiers, too! 😂
I just finished the game last night. I think it’s great, but could be more generous with the data discs and weapon spawns. I’ve completed all other trophies, so now I’m just grinding out finding most of the fabrication discs without using any of them. And I only got a second weapon about 6 hours in. Some weapons I haven’t even been able to find yet.
Absolutely loved this game. The more you learn how the game works the better it gets. Closest game we have to Alien isolalation and Persistence

I didn’t know until recently just how insane people are about trophies. I’ve seen that there are a bunch of people that refuse to play RE8 because no trophies? Ok then fair enough, enjoy not having the most fun you could possibly have in your own home, you absolute psychos 😺
My thing is why wouldn't you have it? It is a massive deal to some people, so why would you cut out that part of your player base.
@@Thenesrookie I would agree that trophy support is pretty much a core thing at this point, and not having them is strange, but it just doesn’t matter that much to me, and it certainly wouldn’t stop me from playing a highly anticipated major release.

Those are some super goofy looking enemies 😂 I kind of wish this had a better presentation. The rest seems pretty good.
It IS pretty great on the whole. As you alluded to, the balancing between runs is extremely questionable (much moreso than any other roguelite I know of). I'm finding that to be something that can truly ruin the experience where I feel straight-up unlucky with impossible (or at least severely obnoxious) disadvantages; I mean, when failure just feels pretty much inevitable. As far as weapons, the best one I'm finding is the pistol which doesn't have hassles like the others. I thought the same thing about the weapons: really lack any sense of impact.
One thing's for sure, it definitely has some legit scares though -- can't deny that! I really like the overall design too where you have a list of objectives that can unfold in a variety of ways. It definitely has me interested.

7/10 This was decent fun, but yeah about 5-10 hours in, you realise you are just walking the same walls vs same enemies over & over (albeit in a different "order"). I know it's a roguelite, but that cant be used as an easy excuse for repetitive games. The game will artificially slow down your progress by only providing a data drive every 1 or 2 runs, each one can take an hour... i mean it's good for a cheap indie game but it didnt hold my attention long & just left me wanting a bigger more varied game...

Cosmodread isn't a technical achievement on any platform but it does look mildly better on PSVR2 than Quest 2
It uses the PC settings for resolution, fog, shadows and character model complexity.
Dreadhalls never came out to psvr1
Actually it did! It was released as part of Herocade which was a bundle of 9 smaller games (Dreadhalls was the standout) :D

Ya, i got this yesterday, its a good time waster for the money, not very scary, and pretty blurry having just come from red matter 2, and the lack of haptics was very disappointing, but I would still recomend

I’m not quite fond of rogue likes and rogue lites myself but this one is actually very good. It can be pretty freaky and intense.

I just can't get into it! For a psvr2 title it's so generic looking and not really scary at all. I don't see the hype 🤷🏿♂️

@@WithoutParole I've been kinda off and on with it. I put about an hour into it yesterday. I unlocked some kinda armor
If it doesn't scare you (like it scares me) then I can see how it wouldn't be nearly as appealing. I've put about 9 hours into it now and still want to go back to it and see what other blueprints and audio logs I can find.
