  • Stage Automation Engineer Chuck Adomanis designs the modern automated system for moving theatrical scenery. He demonstrates the control system on the new set built for the Billy Elliot tour. His designs created on computer are executed by many craftsmen on the shop floor. Notable designs using Hudson Scenic Automation are" The Lion King's "Pride Rock, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's" flying car, and the large video screens used by the current Dreamgirls tour. Adomanis shares the origins of his interest in stagecraft, his career path, and what continues to motivate his work.
This edition of In The Wings was made possible by the generous support of Bettina Burda.

I absolutely love this series. It's so insightful and educational as well as entertaining. This channel should have way more subscribers for this series.

Obviously shows like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are easier to design for when it had already been designed 4 years earlier in London.

These people do great work and I appreciate it, but a little bit of me thinks technology in the theatre is akin to putting a microphone on an opera singer and doing some eq on his/her voice. I prefer the magic of the ropes, crew madly pushing things around in the shadows and all that "magic", and just like magicians (illusionists) I don't go around showing people outside of the industry how it's done. That's the wonder of thhe theatre
