I remember my first time at the skate park! I needed months of recouping because I fell directly onto my tailbone trying to go down a tiniest bump. My biggest tip is to lean way forward; always better to land on your knee pads than your tailbone!
How timely. I've been on skates for about 2 months now and feel like I'm ready to drop in on some small bowls. I haven't even been to my local skate park to see what's there, but I'll definitely be wanting to try the smallest bowl/drop there. I'll definitely be using your tips 😁
Dirty you are the best teacher! Thanks for admitting it was impossible at first but determination and thoughtful body placement is key. I love the skate park so I would love more tutorials from you!
This video comes in perfectly timed for me. I am playing roller derby for about a year now and want to expand my skating skills. So tomorrow I am going to a skate park for the first time ever! Thanks for the clear explanation!
I love this!! I was supposed to go to the Moxi Skate Camp this past weekend and I got Covid 2 days before ☹️. Now I will have more videos to help with my “self teaching” although I’m still working on pumping 🙂.
So far for me, it is Ramps 3, KC 0... I am comfortable in pumping, can roll in on non coping, can mimic drop ins on same ramps and drop in repeatedly with no issues on small transitions and bowls with coping... but for some reason, 3ft and I eat dirt and it is very frustrating for me and my remedial massage therapist...
I can't wait to try this, although for now I'll practice pumping fward and bkward. I came to this video when I saw the thumbnail, because it wasn't clear to me if slide-blocks were necessary to drop-in from coping. Seems like I won't have to invest in slide-blocks for now!
Omg thank you for this! This instruction is so key! I’ve been building on my drop ins but every time I’m at the top, no matter how many times I’ve done it, it freaks me out. I even went to Moxi skate camp and their beginner drop in class was more or less like you said, ‘it’s like this, go ahead and do it’ and soooo many people were wiping out which didn’t help with my fear. There was no explanation of body mechanics or counter weight, which was kind of disappointing. Next time I go to the skate park, I’ll be focusing on my arms like you said. Thank you for helping me get over my mental block that is fear! Haha!
@@jaycie.m I totally get it. After camp was finished I looked back and realized that although it was a great experience for all levels, it definitely caters to those way more advanced
I am an exceptionally slow skater. I wouldn't even TRY dropping in 'til I was 100% sure that I could do it. I only became sure when I was able to go up and down, up and down towards the transition... and then moved on to up and down (forwards), up and down (fakie), and then... with a lot of time standing on top of the transition... dreaming about going down it (literally, every other night I was visualising it before bed- because I knew the movement was going to be similar to what I was already doing) 'til EVENTUALLY (months and months of being at the up & down fakie) I finally did it. And I still get nervous. I have fallen only a handful of times- one of them because I wasn't watching where I was skating and my wheels went over the transition before I was ready- and I've decided that I'm not a person whose willing to fall a lot. That means my progress is slow as hell. But there's a lot of progress. It's just slow.
I stood up too soon to celebrate my first slope and are it! crashed my tailbone and I'm dying at 2am. At 49 started skating again and love it! I'll be back at it as soon asy ass heals lol. thanks for the great videos!! ❤️
Honestly, if I'm ever ready for a drop in I would probably go backwards first into a deep lunge and roll back and forth that way....just so I can get used to it and the feeling and I don't freak myself out facing forward first and the ramp looking deeper than what it is. Idk.....it's a mental thing but I think I found a loophole by doing a deep lunge going backwards...I'll let you know how it goes LOL.
Great video as always! So what plates are those on your skates? Sure-Grip what? And do you need sliders for those particular plates? Id rather pay 80-$100 more for new plates than having to purchase a slide block for $100 if I can just get better plates that do not need slide blocks. Thank you!
I’ve got a problem. My feet feel so comfy in staggerd with my left infrint but if I put my left in toe and right on the coping it’s so uncomfortable so my right foots infrint (I haven’t dropped I’m yet but I’ve set up) and I’m trying to get used to right in front but I cant
Hello Deborah I have question for you.... when I was skating outside my wheels began to to get really loose and wobbly... can you please tell me what happened.
recently broke my right arm trying to teach myself how to drop in with no slide blocks 🥲 can not wait to heal up and conquer the bowls!!! gonna keep learning and get it right next time
Tried this last night... wasn't afraid until I totally ATE IT the first three times. Realized I needed to come learn how to do it right. LOL

Oh yea! Couldn’t agree more! I once fell on my tailbone and couldn’t walk for a day! It hurt so bad 😂

Good luck! It’s so much fun at skate parks, but it’s a lot harder than it looks so don’t get discouraged! Take it slow too, u got this!
This is exactly what I wanted to learn. I love your energy please never stop🌟✨💞🙏
I love you, Dirty Deborah! Thank you so much!

Thanks, will do!

Just learned to drop in awhile ago! Wish I watched this video first! You should make more skate park how to’s
I absolutely love that skate park, hope to see more videos of it in the future. Thank you very much and thanks for sharing. Take care.

Dang! I was watching some videos from Moxi skate camp and as a beginner I don’t think I could have handled it 🥲

Most of the people at Moxi Skate Camp are NOT instructors. :(

You are amazing! Thank you.
Thank you so much. Your explanations are so helpful and you fill me with motivation to get my skates on.
climbing up “hand over fist” is EXACTLY how i get on any ramp 🤣🤣🤣
We are in good company! We are crazy!

You are just great! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi. Where can I get a set of Chicago custom GM11 pivot cups from?
Hello, Thank you. I love the outside area you started this video. Do you know what material the floor is made of? It looks like rubber. 😘
Cement

Me about to drop in without knowing how to pump 🙃
Hello Deborah I have question for you.... when I was skating outside my wheels began to to get really loose and wobbly... can you please tell me what happened.
Will I need slider blocks for this? I'm afraid my skate would get stuck
No blocks needed
recently broke my right arm trying to teach myself how to drop in with no slide blocks 🥲 can not wait to heal up and conquer the bowls!!! gonna keep learning and get it right next time
I tried to do that early and fell on my back 😂 and my butt but it was a small ramp and yes I had a helmet on
Are you pushing down your toes or feet harder or regular like pumping ?
At what point?
What am I supposed to do if I reach the other side? I'm really scared of falling backwards
This is why you need to already know how to pump and how to skate backward.
Hi Deborah!
Not well at the moment 😕
So not doing any skating at the moment.
I have Rollerskates
Not well at all
Gonna try. Update soon. !!! 😝😝😝🫣
Yup, I had to crawl on all fours 🤣🛼❤️
