I've got this same bike and this video really makes me want to put a 1x on it. Also, Tomi's paint jobs are *so* satisfying to watch. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great work!
This is an awesome funky build! I love listening to bike work in your videos - it's so relaxing. However, when I work on my bikes, I like to rock out to music on speakers haha thank you for making that sacrifice for us!
I found a Specialized Stumpjumper on Craiglist with no fork. It's in great shape so trying to negotiate a price with the current owner. If I buy it, I'll have to buy a fork and follow your lead here. Pretty cool how even old tech, like that new square tapered BB you installed, spins more freely than most new BB's installed on $10,000 bikes. Free watts, right? Especially on a corgo bike!
Nice, love how that turned out - really unique funky bike. But, how come you didn’t lacquer the paint job? That would’ve protected it and kept it looking fresh.. good work. 👍
Nice job- colors look like an old Bontrager in style. You mentioned a "spacer" for the bottom bracket - but for square taper, wouldn't you have needed a slightly longer spindle to make it work without grinding? Just curious. I do stuff like this all the time. Great job, great use of old frame.
just found this I am I am restoring the same exact bike! Longshot but.... you still have the original fork? mine is bent ...i know this was done last year but I figured I'd try! I'll pay shipping! thanks!
Love the vids! Quick tip: when you're undoing potentially stuck/overtorqued bolts like chainring bolts, you want to be using the straight hex end of the wrench, not the ball end. Reduces your chances of stripping the head.
Thanks!! Yeah I always feel guilty undoing bolts with the ball end, but thanks for the heads up! I definitely have to work on using the straight end for unbolting tight screws.
How's your friend liking the Corner Bars? I have a Redwood with Advent X (10 speed) and got the flat bar version to try those same bars later on. Loving Snack Attack!
These bikes are becoming more rare and hard-to-find like everything else one day they will like me trying to find a Model T or Model A Car I think we all get the picture by what I was saying these bikes are becoming more scarce they are part of Viking history and need to be preserved and their own originality not slaughtered or disgrace
Funny enough I just found my friend a 1996 Hard Rock for her city bike, and I just put a Clydesdale on my 1992 Hard Rock. Are the 2.8” tires treating you well? I never ride in mud so I’m intrigued but that clearance is super close!
Good work and thank you for the video! But if you have on original Specialized bike from 1996 and the paint is still ok, never change the color! It's like changing the color if a red Ferrari. Never change that either. Always take a no-name frame to change color.
Yeah, it hurts me a little inside when I have to remove the original paint, but you know what they say - Sooner or later, everything old is new again. Thank you for watching!
Look I'm for all like Restorations but customizing your bike is good but when it comes to the point of making it or it's not original or far away from its original design it is just disturbing he mentions in this video the great sounds of bike registration it sounds like to me that he is going to ruin a great vintage mountain bike of res for years that we used to always enjoy that was while we are able to still see around I am for restoration but when you start changing things or they're not original it becomes fake especially an old school mountain bike like this specialized Hardrock I own a specialized Hardrock I plan on restoring it fully to its original condition as possible and not very away from the originality of when it came off its Factory line
I don't know about you guys that are watching this video but this is like a nightmare slaughtering a perfectly good vintage mountain bike instead of restoring a close to its originality this guy I sure is a good mechanic but he needs to be stopped or someone needs to sit down and have a serious talk with him about the originality of old-school vintage mountain bikes is actually running the value of an old classic it's very hard to watch it's like a slow-moving train wreck he's not even going to use original drivetrain I'm not sure but I bet he's going to stretch the frame out and that's just slaughtering the bike the idea of having a bike of this nature I believe is having more originality
Hey, I appreciate the comment, I get what you’re saying with the whole originality thing, but in the end - it is just a bike and it is only meant to bring joy by simply riding it! Because of its transformation, the bike now has a very happy owner who I’ve ridden with multiple times and had some of the best moments with - that is truly what matters to me when I am building these bikes - letting the good times roll!
Light blue and orange really go well together and the the stickers pop.
They really do compliment each other!
Love that safety tools for components dessembling and assembling
Hell yeah. The frankstein bike . I Dig the disc and rim brake set up .
Nice! I have a 99' HardRock with a
Clydesdale fork that I did a disc conversion on and some other terrible welding. Love it!
Sick!!! Building this bike made me want a Clydesdale fork. Thank you!
I've got this same bike and this video really makes me want to put a 1x on it. Also, Tomi's paint jobs are *so* satisfying to watch.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great work!
Amazing! Thank you!
Crazy cool. Looking forward to doing this to my Bridgestone 88, trail.
Amazing bike!
This is an awesome funky build! I love listening to bike work in your videos - it's so relaxing. However, when I work on my bikes, I like to rock out to music on speakers haha thank you for making that sacrifice for us!
haha No problem! I'm mainly just not trying to get copyrighted 🤣 and thank you!
Your skill matches your groovy vision. Keep up the good you bring into the universe!
Thank you! Will do!
So great to see a new video brother. That bike is something else. Hope you are well.
Thank you! Likewise 👍🏽👍🏽
Wow, this was quite a build! Love the massive front tire and how it barely fit. I should've bought that crust fork when they were still in stock..
Thank you! It was a fun one. It also made me consider getting this fork for a personal build.
Don't let perfect (or safe) be the enemy of dope
Bingo Bongo!! 👍🏽
Nice to See you with a new rebuild. You did a amazing Bike paintjob. Really nice. Best regards from germany. Stay well budy. 🤘😃👍
Thank you! Likewise!
You got some big thunderstorms in the background.
Yeah, I live next to an airport 🥴
Definitely fits into the category of Ultra Groovy!!!!
weird and functional bikes are the way to go!!
I definitely want to say that you really know your stuff my friend, wonderful work and love the Bike. Thanks
Thank you! I find myself learning something new on every build!
Colorway go crazy
yessirrrrr!
Need some of those custom stickers!
Totally brilliant. What a superb cargo bike. Love it.
Thank you!
Love the paint scheme and the custom decals on this, ya dun good!
thank you!!!

Good luck on the build! sounds like a fun one. And yes, free watts haha! Old tech is soooo slept on.
This is awesome! Love your Videos, so calming and inspiring. Greetings from Dresden, Germany ✌️
Thank you!
Nice, love how that turned out - really unique funky bike. But, how come you didn’t lacquer the paint job? That would’ve protected it and kept it looking fresh.. good work. 👍
Yeah, my friend wanted a flat clear on it, so i did a couple coats of it, just didn’t film it. thank you!
Rattle can clear is very much a finish and not actual protection
Nice job- colors look like an old Bontrager in style. You mentioned a "spacer" for the bottom bracket - but for square taper, wouldn't you have needed a slightly longer spindle to make it work without grinding? Just curious. I do stuff like this all the time. Great job, great use of old frame.
what a great fun looking ride! love everything about it. 10/10 sir!
Thank you!
I have a 99 hardrock that looks just like this one but black and silver. I'm planning on throwing a surly troll fork on it for those braze-ons
Sounds like such a rad build! That fork is unmatched. So are you thinking of going with 650b wheels? or stick with the 26
Great job! Big up from country of Russia!
Thank you! Cheers from Seattle, Washington!
just found this I am I am restoring the same exact bike! Longshot but.... you still have the original fork? mine is bent ...i know this was done last year but I figured I'd try! I'll pay shipping! thanks!
Nice! I no longer have the original fork!
Always enjoy your builds thanks for uploading
thank you for sticking around!
Nice again.
Thank you!
Dope build.
Thank you!
That's a tight build!
Thank you!
You make putting bikes together seem easy 😭😭 I can barely put brakes on a bike
The tools do all the work, not me!
Amazing build .
thank you!
Now I know what to do with my old Specialized😀, where did you find the front tyre? I'm surching for fat 20 inch tyres.
it was online somewhere, the ‘Big Roller’ by Specialized!
What stand are you using? I’m looking for a budget minded bike stand.
I have the Park Tool 10.2 and I love it! I've had it for about 3 years now. Feedback sports makes a great budget bike stand.
Saum Arkoun for the cool build video
You’re very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Awesome build! Love the relaxing and unpretentious vibe of your videos. I'm super grateful. Greetings from Montreal Canada !
Thank you! I’m glad! Cheers from Seattle!
I like it, cool color
thank you!
Why do you use a schrader valve and a presta valve together on the same build? Seems an odd choice
How's your friend liking the Corner Bars? I have a Redwood with Advent X (10 speed) and got the flat bar version to try those same bars later on. Loving Snack Attack!
He loves them! I love them, such a great way to convert any flat bar to drops.
Thanks for the answer. Think I'll pull the trigger on them.
What 26in rim brake wheel set do you recommend to put a 11 speed cassette on?
Mavic makes great 26" wheels, It might be difficult to find a 11 speed hub on a 26" rim brake right now!
Very nice!
Thank you!
WAS INTERESTED IN THOSE FORKS BUT YOU SKIPPED OVER THAT PART OF THE BUILD!!! OTHERWISE GOOD VIDEO, HAPPY TRAILS!!!🤬👹🐒
Thank you!!!
Yo! Did you use the original rear wheel?
Yes I did! I ordered a wheel that had a 8-10spd hub
Interesting bike. Like
Thank you!

i dont know if you watching the same video, but that hardrock was already cooked!! the COWBOY DON gave it a new life!!
i have rear and front the same tires on my dh bike on 20'' and 67mm rims :P bike was with 26'' wheels first :P (big rollers)

Is this a steel frame??
Yes it is!
SUPER FUNKY
Specialized
First Video that i saw from you. Awesome Work! 😉👍 Sub for sure ! Greetings from Germany!
Thank you! Cheers!
What groupset did you use sir ?
It was a 1x9 Microshift. Microshift Cassette is 11-46T and 38T narrow-wide chainring. I love Microshift!
What steerer size does the Hard rock have? 1" or 1 1/8"
the year of this model is 1 1/8” steerer threadless
Filipino subs here..
Shoutout Philippines and I love Sisig!!
@@CowboyTomi how about balot sir hehhehe

Thank you!
i´m missing a clearcode on your fresh paint :-)
haha yeah! I've talked to my friend about it and I think we're gonna go back once weather becomes nice again!
Where are you from in Cambodia?
I’m from Seattle, Washington. My ethnicity is Cambodian/Burmese
Funny enough I just found my friend a 1996 Hard Rock for her city bike, and I just put a Clydesdale on my 1992 Hard Rock. Are the 2.8” tires treating you well? I never ride in mud so I’m intrigued but that clearance is super close!
that’s amazing! yeah my friend is reporting saying that the 2.8s are a bit too big as hes riding in the mud right now haha.
Go with 2.2 - 2.8” are def too big
yo this shit is poppin 🤘🤘
Thank you!
matcha kitkat👍
when in doubt grind it out lol
epic!
thanks!!
Cool
Thank you!
ficou maneira, só não precisava tirar a pintura original
Thanks! I saw a lot of rust, so the frame needed to be sanded and repainted. I wish I could've kept the original paint!
👍👍👍👍👍
Nice👍👍👍
Thank you!
03:34 ouch! 😅
Echt cool👍👍👍👍

it’s such a fun bike 🤣

❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Fuck don't wanna be that hater but why no proper sanding and clear coat? And that brake hose att 18:24 doesn't sit very wel. Nice bike!
everything is good except for the paint job.
Thanks! Yeah i think we’re gonna go back and do a clear coat once weather is permitting.
LOL Ranier
I grew up the hill from the Ranier factory in Seattle.
number 1 beer!

Also, it's a Hardrock not some rare vintage machine. They were entry level bikes BITD and they sold in the hundreds of thousands.
