Orcas by far the apex predators of the sea. She runs no danger at sea, her only danger is readjusting to life at sea. But if she can find someone to mate with she’ll for sure make. Also they mentioned they believe her mother still loves so that most likely means her siblings as well. Orcas are part of the dolphin family, they are the smartest animals on earth and have the best memories of any breed maybe she can find her pod and join her family

I showed footage of the news coverage from the conference to my aunt and she agreed that tank is way too small for an animal that size. My mom was shocked that Lolita survived 53 years in a tank that small. At first my mom was concerned about whether she’ll be able to survive in the open ocean but once I explained to her that Lolita is going to a sea pen and that it is going to be kind of like what they did with Keiko, she was okay with it as long as they’re not going to just let her out. But I figure the more people in my family I tell about her plight, the more my family will agree she needs to go home.

@Timothy O'Mara I completely agree. It says so on their website. The people planning this move have no idea that PETA made it harder to get her released from captivity, not easier. PETA petitioned to have her listed as an endangered species in 2015 and won. They asked if that meant she could be released and NOAA said that wasn't part of the ruling. They asked a question that had nothing to do with the endangered species listing. They tried to bill the listing as a path to release and shot themselves in the foot. They did not get the answer they wanted so they kept asking questions about her ability to survive in the wild, hoping NOAA wouldn't notice what they were trying to do. NOAA just answered no, no, and no to each question. I do not think NOAA is going to sign the paperwork for the permit to fly her to Washington because they don't think she's releasable and I think the people planning this move know that NOAA is not going to approve the permit for a sea pen. I do know they are keeping details of their plan confidential. I think they know she likely won't be going to a sanctuary in the Pacific Northwest and want to keep her real new home secret to avoid backlash from their supporters.

She doesn't know how to be a wild whale.
Look up Keiko the Original Free Willy he died after being set free even after he was "trained" to be a wild whale, he still looked to humans for food and entertainment, suffered from illness because he didn't have immune system to deal with infections and stress from being in the open ocean.
After years of preparing Keiko for reintegration, Keiko was flown to Iceland in 1998 and in 2002, became the first captive orca to be fully released back into the ocean. On 12 December 2003, he died of pneumonia in a bay in Norway at the age of 27.
Most sources conclude that the project to free Keiko was a failure because the orca failed to adapt to life in the wild.[24] In Norway, Keiko had little contact with other orcas and was not fishing; for months before his death, the whale was being fed daily.[25][26][15]
A report in The Guardian describes the freed orca's life in Taknes Bay as follows:
"... until his death Keiko was, rather than frolicking freely in his fjord, being taken for 'walks' by caretakers in a small boat at least three times a week. ... It took more than 60 failed attempts to reunite Keiko with free orcas before he followed a group where, spotting a fishing vessel off the Norwegian coast, he followed it into the fjords that would prove his final resting place."[27]
According to an article in New Scientist, "He was seen diving among the wild orcas only once, on 30 July 2002. And after physical contact at the surface, Keiko swam away, seeking out human company on the tracking boat".[15] Simon, Hanson, Murrey, et al. (2009)[14] confirm that he was seen on the periphery of some wild groups but was never seen to be socially integrated with such whales. In summary,
"He never integrated into a wild pod ... and could not break his need for human contact."[28]
According to Simon et al. (2009)[14] Keiko's return to humans for food and for company confirms the failure of the project.
Reasons cited for Keiko's failure to adapt include his early age at capture, the long history of captivity, prolonged lack of contact with conspecifics and strong bonds with humans.[14]
There are articles after articles siting the failer of reintroduction in to the wild.

She should be moved to the sea sanctuary ASAP, NOT in a couple of years! If shes going to have ANY chance of reunification with her family, her mother NEEDS to be alive. Her mom is 96 years old!!! The sooner she gets to the sanctuary to sooner the communication can begin trying to locate her family. When they hear her and recognize her vocals hopefully they will stay close to her until she can finally be reunited with them. The sanctuary is a much better place for her, she will be much happier and healthier in her natural involvement, especially with the help from humans to get her ready to succeed in the ocean on her own! Also she will be able to explore something other than concrete walls 😢, even if she has to stay in captivity, she’s better off in the ocean sanctuary!!! Please help her get there ASAP!!! It’s heartbreaking things like this were ever done to these precious majestic extremely intelligent animals!!! The least we could do for her is put her in the most natural environment possible at least until she’s 100% ready to be completely freed. When they do completely free her she still NEEDS watched and monitored to make certain she’s not only surviving but thriving when she’s let out of the sanctuary. Please help her succeed in every way possible, and god forbid she needs humans to intervene to help her survive, that needs to be available for her, if she needs to come back to the sanctuary if she’s not thriving, that also should definitely be available for her!!! God please protect this precious beautiful creature you created, help her to eventually find and reunite with her mother and family. Help her and all of her kind thrive in our oceans. Please help humans to understand the mistakes we are making with all of our precious wildlife and our oceans!!! In the holy name of JESUS I pray, amen. 🙏

This is great news. But for those who have commented and are reminded of Keiko, from free willy and how seaworld and other people deemed his release a 'failure' well, it wasn't. We didn't know back then what we do now about orca society. Orcas stay with their family pod for life, its just like your family, or mine. Would you let some random stranger in? Doubt it. The only time outsiders could come in is during breeding, where pods will come together to allow the males to mingle in with other pods for a few days to court a female and mate, then return to their own pod. We also didn't know what pod Keiko came from, or if any members were still alive, so the likelihood of him being reunited with them was next to none. Keiko never 'joined' with a pod, but he had been seen swimming with and feeding with a few pods... and whos to say he hadn't bred with any of the females before he went on his way. He may have been a solo orca, but he was swimming free in the wild, feeding himself and enjoying his life. Yes, though, people and fans did keep getting in the way of his life, wanting to see him, lureing him to ship bays and getting him into trouble. It's the people who failed him in the end, unable to leave him alone. Likely contributing t him falling ill.
But with Lolita it's different. We DO know she is from L pod of the Northern Residence orcas, her MOTHER L-25 also known as Ocean Sun, born 1928 is still alive and is one of the oldest living orcas. If Lolita still knows and recognizes her pods call (each family's pod has a unique dialect, their own language pretty much) then there is a chance she could rejoin them. But worse case she'll be able to live her life in the sanctuary.

    • @AngelusGaston
      @AngelusGaston ปีที่แล้ว

He wasn't lured to interacted with people he was seen a number of times breaking away from the pod to interact with people, He didn't hunt, he didn't do anything that he was trained to do to be a wild whale.
After they stopped them from interacting with him he STOPPED EATING AND THATS WHY THEY HAD TO INTERVEN AND FEED HIM THEMSELVES.
I was 15 when they did this with Keiko followed the whole thing from start to finish, I've done my research over and over again If there was no fish there then the whale pod he was seen with around there would not come back. He didn't hunt for himself despite being taught how to instead he relied on fisherman and local humans. Then his trainers had to step in before he starved to death.
In 2002, he was fitted with tracking devices, and once again led out to join the wild orcas. This time, his trainers would hide below deck when Keiko approached in an attempt to minimise human contact. But lacking the necessary social skills, Keiko at first mostly floated motionless at the surface, facing towards the wild pods several hundred metres away.
After 10 days, he returned of his own accord to his penned-off area in a nearby bay. Vets extracted a sample from his stomach - the transparent, slimy liquid they found suggested Keiko had not fed.
Two days later he was led back out to sea. Again he didn’t feed, although he did start to make dives. The tracking devices showed that he spent most of his time above 4 metres, and most of his dives were less than 26 metres. In contrast, wild orcas spend most of their dive time between 50 and 75 metres.
He was seen diving among the wild orcas only once, on 30 July 2002. And after physical contact at the surface, Keiko swam away, seeking out human company on the tracking boat
They made a number of attempts to get him to join a wild Orca pod but he would take himself back to his sea pen or were people were to interact with them. This is stated multiple times by the people who actually worked with him.
L25 also hasn't been seen since January so I don't know why people are saying she is still alive when no one has seen her.

    • @TAiiNE
      @TAiiNE ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@AngelusGaston You're one of those who want to call it a failure just because he didn't join with wild orcas hm? Like said, we didn't understand how orca family's worked back then. He NEVER would have joined with a random pod. Pods are families, led by the grandmother... there all related. There was no hope Keiko would ever join with them as that's not how orca pods work. The best that could have been and a slim likelyhood when he was found mingling with a pod for prolong times was he stuck around to breed. Just like wild orcas do in males from pods going out to mingle with other pods to find a female.
He was seen more then once swimming with other pods, but yes, they would likely have shooed him away, and where else would be go to? The boat leading him on his ocean walk or back to his pen.
Yes people and fans did indeed lour him a few times. It's how he ended up in one marina, people went out and got to 'playing with him' when he was out solo and he followed them back. This was reported on and the trainers urged people to stay away.
At the START he wasn't feeding himself. But after that start when he would go off and swim for miles he was found to have been feeding himself as reported by him maintaining a good weight.
Again, it's not a failure just because he didn't get in with a pod. That plan was doomed to fail from the start based on what we now know today.
Lolita has a SLIM chance as we DO know her pod. Her song if she still knows it will allow her to hopefully be recognized as one of theirs. Even if she ends up being unable to feed herself orca pods have been seen numerus times aiding, and even hunting for ill or crippled pod mates. Just like with Stumpy, a ADULT WILD orca that was crippled, with missing tail, deformed spine and the like, but alive and healthy with documenting sights of other pod members both aiding in swimming and bringing over food. That's the bond of a FAMALY group.

He wasn't eating at all only when the trainers fed him. I dont know why your so dead set on using Lolita as a pawn just to see if it can without really thinking about the consequences of if it fails.

Look up Keiko the Original Free Willy he died after being set free even after he was "trained" to be a wild whale, he still looked to humans for food and entertainment, suffered from illness because he didn't have immune system to deal with infections and stress from being in the open ocean.

Once liberated, this will open up all new scopes of research to understand further the new instinctive survival adaptation by the orca and further appreciate the intelligence of these beings in a completely differential scale that is yet to be recorded in these whales. 🐋
Best wishes for this once in a lifetime expedition to every stakeholder involved in this delicate project!!
Cheers to Lolita's future life experiences, socialization and meeting with her mother 👍🐳🙂

She wont survive though Just look up Keiko aka Free Will they tried to release him in the early 2000's and he ended up dying out there even after being taught how to be a wild whale. He didn't join a pod, he didn't hunt, he went back to humans for food and interactions. Keiko was 27 years Lolita is over 50.
The only way she will be able to SURVIVE is in a sea pen being cared for and looked after by humans for the rest of her life.

@@andreaponn Sure Andrea.. It will be a real miracle if the mother orca and Lolita recognize each other after this long. . maybe through their respective body scents or behavior recalls.. Let's hope for the BEST with a lot of real-time human level care taken during this process. 🐋🙂

And it didn't turn out well for that orca, known as Keiko. Died shortly after being released into the wild. Sadly there isn't much chance for Lolita in the wild after so many years in captivity. Hope for the best this time around. It's likely she will have to stay in her sea pen for the rest of her days.

@@anastasiawinters4455 Elsa of "Born Free" didn't make it to her 5th birthday and was only cared for a couple of years being trained for release the entire time. Doubtful a pod will accept an orca that has been gone for over 50 years. Hope I'm wrong. Who is to say orcas even like the wild over captivity? Keiko spent his last days seeking human contact and playing with kids. That's the only time this has ever been attempted and it failed. Also seeing that Lolita was 4 years old when captured. Keiko 2 years old. Either way 52 years is a long time for a 56 year old. Wish her the best.

I have a betta fish. They're from Thailand originally. This would be like me putting him back in a rice paddy and expecting a good result. He is used to a filter, a heater, being fed every day... He would have no idea what to do in the wild.
