  • Byrne v Boadle is an 1863 case from England, where the court dealt with the use of circumstantial evidence in a negligence case. In this classic case, the court uttered the famous words: res ipsa loquitur.

    Today I want to help you understand Byrne v. Boadle, an 1863 English case decided by the Court of Exchequer. This case made famous the Latin phrase: res ipsa loquitur, or in English, the thing speaks for itself.
