Solo Boat Camping, Fishing and Freediving | Catch and Cook Overnighter

- Fun wee overnighter off Banks Peninsula with the new boat camping setup, fishing, diving and eating my way around the coastline! Plenty to catch, though a bit slow on the freediving partly due to the classic very low vis. Also included a wee tutorial on my method of unhooking fish without touching them or using a tool in this video! And I'm currently trying out the carnivore diet for a few months so it's possible the old cookups will get a little more basic hahaha.
Hope ya enjoy the vid!

Tasman my man, you're a weapon. Please can some cashed up dive company shout this man a new wetsuit
When the only boat you encounter out there.. knows who you are.. classic.😄
Exactly what I was thinking. Like when he met Josh James randomly 😂😂
😂 ridiculous 😂
Aaaargh yes! The fish removal technique. remember you demonstrating it to us on another video of yours. I tried to find it once but couldn't lol Cheers bro.
Haha cheers Winny! Hope some people find it useful 😁
Yea I forgot it myself good to relearn
I return here every episode for several reasons. Today, it was to hear the word "Skedaddle" used in such movies as the western the magnificent seven. Other reasons are to see the latest contraption, or ridiculous amounts of ingredients, used to cook amazing food, and to salivate over the sound of said food cooking. Also If I am on a seat, I am on the edge of it with often elements of danger, or perhaps a demonstration of ice skating with homemade skates. Oh and of course the bounty collected in good old NZ. Absolutely love the show. Don't change a thing. 🎉
Hahaha I'm pleased you enjoyed the skedaddle 😂 stoked to hear that mate, much appreciated! Thanks Matt 😁
I was really amazed to see you still in your hammock in the morning,,,with such a high centre of gravity,,,I was sure you'd have ended up in the tide during the night,,,another great trip,,,well done 😊
Hahaha I was a little surprised as well 😂 nice calm day otherwise it may not have gone so well! Cheers!
So cool to see the little hectors dolphins doing their thing :)
They're so cure aye 😊
Great video. Missed watching them. Just so authentic and down to earth as always.
Someone sponsor this dude already da man
Bushbuck have now sponsored me a bunch of new gear! Unfortunately they're not making wetsuits anymore 😂
Another great adventure. Been carnivore for just over a year and having great success. Mussel recovery a big one being a 63 year old hunter. Asthma gone, had since I was a kid. First 2 weeks the hardest I found, then the taste buds change and water starts to taste sweet. I will not go back to eating the " normal " way. It's great getting up in the morning without a moan.
Cheers! Wow that's awesome good on ya. Those sound like some great effects 😁 going well for me too! Lost a bit of weight and it's way easier to move around now 😁
Another great video Tasman, you certainly never cease to amaze us.
Cheers Peter!
Cool fish removal technique. Love your content and your way. Thank you for taking us on your adventures 💚
Cheers! My pleasure, glad you're enjoying the content!
hehehe.... hits the fish with the frying pan... legend!
Haha bit faster than the ol pocket knife 😆 cheers!
You will have to patent the hammock setup, ingenious. Your a colourful interesting dude, keep up the awesome missions
Haha thanks Craig 😆 plenty more to come!
Still amazed at every video you put out mate. Absolutely legendary adventures every time!!!

We love it dude! Great stuff!
Thanks 👍👍
your a legend! Kahawai also my favorite
Great vid ❤
Another video that inspires us to go out and explore ❤
The real deal 💪🏻
Mate that hammock was proof that South Island’s motto should be ‘Hey, check this out.’ Someone’s been watching Rokkit Kit and his Stabi setup and thought ‘anything West Island can do…’
Another great little vid. 10k soon and on from there.
Haha did Rod use a hammock in his stabi? Didn't see that 😂. Cheers mate!
Those dolphins were intensely in love with you, or red current, hard to say!!! Cheers for another highly entertaining adventure, inspiring to say the least!
Hahaha I reckon they love the boat, wonder if it's cos it's soft! Thanks guys 😊
Epic as usual man.
Another awesome video m8 always such a pleasure to watch... especially loved the carnage with the fish on whilst surrounded by dolphins.... magic cheers
Stoked you enjoyed the vid Aaron! Haha they were circling like sharks it was amazing 😂 cheers mate!
That moustache though!! Man you are an amazing dude
Hahaha trying something new 😂, thanks so much mate!
Wow another cool adventure
Absolutely loved it!!! The hammock is genius. And I'm still flummoxed at the hook removal technique, I'm considering trying to get the hang of it myself though 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks so much! Stoked you enjoyed it, hahaha it's a bit of a knack but well worth learning I reckon! 😂
Cool drone shots bro, always love your content Taz!!Tuned in from wellington 😊
Cheers!
Awesome video good to see plenty of dolphins out with you
That hammock idea is genius
Cheers mate 😁
amazing, refreshingly so understated
Very nice overnight trip in the Banks Peninsula Tasman. The Hector's Dolphins are really cool I went to the Catlins a few times and once they were in that bay I swear I was close enough to have been able to reach out and touch one 😅. I also did some fishing for Kahawai near the Waiau River Mouth in Southland which was fun but I'd just end up muck around with rocks and drift wood. Interesting facial hair there Tasman I'd say you look a little like The Lorax so you are an honoury Guardian of the Forest then I reckon. Good Video Tasman I'll be here for the next one ❤ 👍. -Regards Adam
Thanks Adam! Wow that's awesome, they're such cool wee dolphins! Kahawai are delicious, I hear there's been quite a few caught near the Waimak rivermouth.
Hahaha unfortunately it's the best mo I can make 😂 that's hilarious, I'll take that as a compliment, if only I could grow such a luxurious moustache 😂 cheers mate!
Beautiful drone shot Tasman - looking down onto the boat/hammock combo, what a wonderful bay in which to sleep.
Can someone at Hunting & Fishing please hook this man up with some gear. This is as kiwi do it yourself as it gets. C'mon get in behind him.
Yeah spectacular spot aye! Glad I can now do overnighters onboard 😁. Haha got bushbuck backing me now! Tho they've unfortunately stopped making wetsuits 😂 cheers mate!
Another top class video. Something for everyone to aspire too, love your content thanks.
Thanks so much!
Cool video. I thought you were going to overboard getting into your hammock. Great work on that.
Cheers mate! Yeah easily coulda happened 😂😂 thanks Mark!
Love the dolphins and far out, the hammock situation had me worried you would end up in the tide!
The hectors are absolutely a highlight of every banks peninsula trip 😍. Sorry bout that 🤣 felt pretty dodgy too 😂
Legend❤️
Another great video. Those Peninsula paua know exactly when to stop growing though.
Thanks Craig! Yeah definitely a bit smaller on the north side, round akaroa they seem to grow way bigger!
Love these vids!!
Good flick bro. The visibility was like diving in milk lol. Nice trick for getting the fish off the hook!
Cheers mate! Yah hahaha gotta get used to it in Canterbury though 😂 thanks!
Awesome wholesome video :3
The hammocks great
AWESOME !! love that hammock setup man! best wishes from Waikato
Cheers!
Just found your channel. Awesome bro thanks for bringing us along.
Awesome thanks for watching mate!
Another great video thanks ❤
Thanks brother very nice post interesting just how one is getting more famous with each new adventure 😂😂tidling😂😂
Cheers mate! Yeah it's pretty crazy, get recognized every now and then in town too 😂 can't complain when they chuck a couple crays in the boat though 😂
Loving your content brother.
Another entertaining video. Man you are brave sleeping in that hammock like that.
Cheers Malcolm! Definitely felt pretty close to the edge all night 😂
Very cool to see, planning a trip from Christchurch through to Akaroa at the moment
Cheers! Hope your trip goes great!
Lol now I know how to do the fish removal. Btw that tan color hat you wore in this vid... I found it in the anchor well of my boat. I dried it out and put it in the left side gunnel in the back of the boat. Come over any time to pick it up.
Haha finally made a vid breaking it down 😂 ah yes thanks Jamie! Been meaning to reply. Will do thanks for that!
Most badass nz fishman
"...Feels very dangerous". Understatement of the year!!!
😂
bro when you donged the kahawai with the pot lol
😂 very effective actually, though maybe cast iron next time 🤔
Thanks TAs.
friendly sharks 😂
Very! Thankfully 😂
Right!!!On🎉🎉🤠👌🤙🤙Nice 😊
Excellent vid as always! Try backing off all dairy in future and try Mimosa Pudica Seed Double Wood Brand.
Cheers Tony! Thanks I'll look into that 😁
Hi mate great vid, I’m heading home in April from Ireland for a month. Can’t wait to chase some roaring stags again. Where bouts will you be in the roar?
Cheers mate! That's awesome hope ya have a great time! Actually I've no plans yet, but I'm gonna try get out heaps 😂
Also hope the change your making resolve the diving sinuses issue.
Umm be great seeing u down their.
No joy yet, but fingers crossed it improves!
Go the hammock bro🤜🏽🤛🏽 phat kaha and paua , mean combo . Sux about the sinus Tas, i get gunked uo when I'm diving too bro, not as bad as what you have though. Appreciate the video 🤝🎣🤙🏽
Cheers Ian! So yum 😋 ah that annoying! Yeah it's a bummer, I've been getting headaches when scuba diving too and I reckon it's to do with blocked sinuses as well 🤔 thanks mate 😁
Good one, never sure what you’ll be up to in your videos!
Cheers!
Cool video...
i had good luck putting those fresh mussels straight onto a barbi. cook in their own horrid juices. DELICIOUS. Hard to crank the barbi up to full heat on red current though.
Awesome, on the bbq with garlic butter is the only way I'll tolerate them 😂. Actually I've had a wee bbq for red current, haven't used it in a while though 😂 cheers!
Wash your mouth out hahaha mussels are delicious, nice to see the hectors?
Hahaha I beg to differ 😂 the hectors are soo cute!
Mate I seriously hang for the next adventure!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Brendan!
Tasman the hammock is totally excellent - was the base plate fastened to the ply and then to the alloy hull? It seemed stable as. Pretty gnarly sea at times there - a fine meeting with the hectors. Bloody canterbury viz . Thanks for a great watch - very intrepid as usual. Which bay did you overnight in ? - seemed pretty well sheltered.
Cheers Richard! The steel base was screwed to the ply, but the ply was just sitting on the aluminium floor 😂 very stable with the poles tied down tho! Will be upgrading them to some light stainless ones at some point. Getting pretty used to 2m or less tbh, very pleased when it's 3m or more 😂. Glad you enjoyed the vid! Overnighted just east of Okains bay, inside Pa island 🤙
Great stuff. I enjoyed the catch and release technique that was something new, but that hammock, ah, not for me...
Cheers! Glad the releasing technique could be useful. Actually the hammock was all good aye 😂😂
Your hammock contraption is awesome , How did you click on to that ingenious creation - Shucks Tasman patent it , Your a zillionaire
Thanks! Cooked up the design myself whilst overseas last year, dreaming about my next adventures 😂 hahaha not a bad idea that 😂 cheers!
@@NZWildAdventures Works well when no wind or chop also avoids the sand fly invasions too
Love your vids mate, what do you do for work
Thanks Simon! I'm a builder/ joiner :)
...cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you… Greetings Jörg
Cheers Jörg! Will do 😁
@@NZWildAdventures Thank you very mutch... have a nice day.... see you…. Greetings Jörg
I have something now to practice. I hope I get the opportunity. Thankyou.
Awesome, good luck!
Mo mo mostache
I can't believe where and what you do on that boat of yours, is there no where that boat can go?
Maui dolphen?
Nah just hectors, just as cute though! Mauis are only up west coast north island 👍
Those dolphins really wanted to make friends! How much sleep did you actually get? And this channel will get real interesting once you move on to the vegan diet. Did you get much footage from your time in Europe and anything you'll put on here? Thanks for the video.
They were soo cute aye! Actually it was very good, I did set an alarm for a couple times in the night just in case the anchor slipped or some ropes loosened, but slept for a good 6 hours I reckon! Vegan??? Absolutely not 😂 more like un-vegan diet 😂. Yep got a good amount of footage, nothing too spectacular but will be a bit of fun :). I'm hoping Arved will whip up a vid of it one day 😂. Cheers Paul!
@@NZWildAdventures No mushroom hunt anytime soon!
Tasman How Do. Incredible to think you have added an accomodation Wing to 'Red Current'. Pleased you did not involuntarily visit the Ensuite as such. All the best with your Sinus's. There is a very good Medical Herbalist in Rangiora whom could help you. Best regards Sam.
Haha I'm not sure it's fancy enough to call it that, though it does look a bit like wings 😂. I'm also pleased, coulda been a bit ugly at 3 in the morning 😂. Thanks Sam!
Carnivore great way to go, light up the brain and go all day on no food…next vid be making your own jerky?
I don't know how you stayed out of the water in that hammock bro .
Luck or calculated perfection 😂😂
Did you actually manage to get any sleep? I would have been terrified of a rude awakening 😂💦
Yep! Did wake up intentionally a couple times just to check the anchor and ropes etc., but a couple weeks later I went for another trip and slept in it for a good 8 hours straight 😂
Don't think i could have relaxed enough in that hammock to sleep. Certainly wouldn't be zipping up my sleeping bag
Yeah was considering wearing my life jacket to bed 😂😂 all was well though!
Do you not bleed you Kahawai?
I always bleed my kahawai! May not show it in the vids every time, but it's the first thing I do, followed by an icky or dong to the head 👍
u just donezo a fish with a frying pan?
Lights out in one or three little taps 😆
Is that place near manapouri
Its near christchurch
Yep banks peninsula off Christchurch 👍
Let us know how the carnivore diet treats you!
Will do! No change on the sinuses yet, but I ran the Heaphy track (78km) in one go a couple weeks back, 16 hours on the carnivore diet! Only one 5 second cramp and super even energy levels, it was great 😁.
@ awesome!
And not getting sick of it?
What was the main reason for trying it?
