  • Celebrating 30th anniversary of Brian May & Steve Vai playing “Liberty” at Guitar Legends, Seville, 19th October 1991, along with Joe Satriani, Cozy Powell, and Neil Murray
In short, this is my take of Steve Vai’s masterpiece “Liberty” entirely played by Brian May’s masterpiece guitar “Red Special”. Here’s the story:
30 years ago today, my heroes Brian May and Steve Vai, along with Joe Satriani, Cozy Powell and Niel Murray, shared the stage at Guitar Legends, Seville, Spain, where they together played “Liberty” by Steve Vai.
I still remember the day when I first found a recording of the performance 13 years ago - it was the first time I listened to Steve, who really blew me away with his completely different sound and vibe to that of Brian which I’d been familiar with.
What surprised me more was that those 2 guitarists with completely different styles seemed to enjoy sharing the stage, creating a wonderful harmony that I’d have loved to listen to in real life if I could.
Now, 13 years after my first encounter, this is my take of Steve Vai’s masterpiece “Liberty” entirely played by Brian May’s masterpiece guitar “Red Special” to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the performance and to show my gratitude to Brian, Steve, and everyone that had made this performance happen.
You can see me playing Steve’s part on the upper side/Brian’s part on the lower side of the video. You can hear my take of Steve on the left/Brian on the right.
Except for the drums/bass generated by the sampling software, I played all the tracks with guitar (so-called “No synthesizers!”, if I’m allowed to use it).
Most of the backing track arrangements are taken from the original studio recording, I added onto lead guitar tracks some phrases that Steve and Brian actually did/intended to play 30 years ago.
Thank you for your attention, and I hope you like my video and LOVE the original performance!
    Disclaimer:
This is not done in “one-take”; I’ve recorded both the audio and video in bits and pieces. This never proves that I can play through the entire song in one-take, nor was intended to.
-I ’ve given up Joe Satriani’s part, as I failed to come by a recording which I can tell what was played by him with confidence. This is the only reason he’s not given here the same level of credit as Brian and Steve. Sincere apologies for @joesatriani and his fans, but this is never intended for disrespect.

I cannot believe this only has 3 likes. A travesty. If i could add more likes i would this is a brilliant cover of my still no.1 Vai track. Even after all these years. The Guitar Legends in Seville '92 was my introduction to Vai and Satch, Joe Walsh...and BM my hero (*and still so) looked like the freshman in this company at times, at least when he was playing with Satch n Vai. Amazing show. Wish we'd have gotten to see more from Nuno on the show as well as all we got was More than Words and then he was in the play alongs with Walsh n co towards the end of the show.

Thanks, it’s actually a volume knob. I prefer having it at the same location as Stratocasters so I had the luthier do the customization.
