Mike Herrera and Stingrays are also inseparable in my brain!!! This video was awesome, been playing bass for close to 20 years and I still learned so much and was entertained the whole time!
First vid I’ve scene of yours very cool! I have a OLP style bass I bought because of Mike Herrera! Watched your video as I’ve had it for years and I want to clean and set it up! Rock on dude!
MxPx! The Ever Passing Moment was my introduction and I listened to it forever. Thanks for the pickguard suggestion. Most appreciated. #OneStepCloserToLife
I think Matt Wong from Reel Big Fish might be why I own a 5 string Sting Ray (Sterling by Music Man Ray 35HH, I'm too terminally-cheap to afford an EBMM). But then there's also Flea, John Deacon, Gail Ann Dorsey, Pino Palladino, Tony Levin, and the list is never ending. For anyone with a love-hate relationship with their Sting Rays - try stringing it up with some flatwounds! I have a set of Ernie Ball Slinky Flatwounds (Cobalt) on my Sting Ray, and they are AMAZING!
Okay first... there's no such thing as "too much MXPX" (if you haven't yet, you gotta listen to their newest ST album). Second, fantastic video as always! Third, I need to get a sting ray in my collection something. Thing sounds amazing
Used to have an EBMM Sterling was probably the most fun to play bass ever I couldn’t keep my band away from it. Unfortunately we made it big enough won some competitions and all ended up hooked on drugs my drummer died I sold the stingray. I’m 8.5 years clean today and I bought myself a Stingray Special in Burnt Apple and my reggae band is going places. These instruments are special they have the best playability and electronics out there… RIP CHUBBS MY DRUMMER FOREVER
Just play the root on the e string and the major or minor third on the g and moving to 4th-5th and 7th back and forth on the g string depending on the chord. Easiest way to help out with chords and fullness in a band with a guitarist that don't do a lot of chord work. Sounds great when accompanying a piano too. Peace and stay safe
I’ve got a Stingray that needs a little love. My biggest issue is that all the chrome is really tarnished, with the tuners especially looking matte with basically no luster. Any recommendations on what might bring that back to to shine? Metal polish didn’t do it for me.
Dude if Jack Black and Martha Stewart had a guitar/bass tech, it'd be you @puisheen. Love your footage, content, and mainly love of the gear you help us learn and laugh about.
I love Mike’s videos. The first time I ever saw him was on a Fender Video. He was wearing a TNG costume and was geeking over Weezer. I was hooked at that moment.
The rag you were using at first was too dirty IMHO. I happen to own a 2001 EBMM Sterling with the same body color but a maple fingerboard. In your shoes, I would have measured the neck relief with a feeler gauge rather than relying on sight and feel.
If I was going to have a problem w any of the audio it wouldn't be the use of "cheese", no it would be obnoxious and uncouth sounds the lemon oil bottle chose to produce.....lol...also the St Vincent model is such a cool/think differently type of guitar....
If you haven't tried out one of the Sting Ray Short Scale (either Ernie Ball Music Man, or Sterling by Music Man) models, they are amazing! Also, fully passive, too.
This is basically 30 mins of Mike having a nice day at the office.
10/10!
The whole bass chord/ variety of amps thing reminded me of Lou Barlow. One of the best bassists I've ever seen. No, *the* best bassist I've ever seen.
Totally! And his rig is a lot of fun too
thank you for having great audio. you never hurt my ears, some channels have such loud playing compared to talking. keep up the great work

25:30 "haha. OK, I promise I will never slap again" the laugh made my day!
"What if you if you don't have a second tuner?" Wow! Mind blown, I've been eyeballing that length since 1992!
Dude same, it blew my mind too and I’m super ashamed 😅
That third position does sound amazing. When you were demoing it before adjusting the EQ it just sounded so incredibly '90s - in a good way.

I had one of those ampeg combos it was called B3 club I think with that specific speaker setup.

HECK YES! Pink St.Vincent with a mastery all day son!
Eric Merrow made me a mock up of it and I'm in LOVE
I really like the color on this. My MM Sterling is in natural and it’s so boring. Might have to do a re-finish to love it like I should.

What is the size of the hex Allen for the saddle?? My 1/16 doesn’t seem to be big enough
That bass riff at 16:32 was sick. Haha.

Yes. This is exactly what I needed today 😎

Id recommend, remove tuners, fine bronze wool, and polish with a buffing wheel. If you want them to shine. Disassemble the tuner if needed.
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks Mike.
Greg the Anchor! I like LaBella flatwounds on my bass for the tension. No buzzing from round wounds that feel loose.
Impossible Weight - best record of 2020.

I have EB mm America made 2002 sterling
Can you tell me please the ohm reading between the 3 positions switching
It's suppose to change right?!
Thanks
The music of Tuner Turner. Pretty great!! lol
You… you enjoy the JCM 2000 DSL? 😮
Mike & Tuner Turner > Ike & Tina Turner
Anyone know what cutters Mike used to cut through that low E
Was really hoping you were going to do the lick test on the 9v! Isn't that the most accurate way to test them?
I desperately want you to work on my twin brother’s Arbor ‘Ray copy!
Look at ya boi cuting through a bass low e string like it 'aint nothing... Sign of a true pro guitar tech that.
Man, I thought I had the guy from the LA band with the heavy right hand and famous singer pegged till you mentioned drop D haha
I love “Proud Terry” by Tuner Turner!
I heard the Sigur Ros 😊👍
Tuner Turner? Didn't she sing What's Love Got to Do with It
Thicc picc gang!! I need to get myself a 3mm pick
Whoa!
I like this. Doesn't this vid make you feel like you're hanging out with an old buddy?
Lovely colour!!! Plus, nothing wrong with pick playing, players should be diverse in styles and techniques (imo)
I feel as though I now know Greg, too!
Firebirds and RD’s count as offsets so you can still get your Gibson fix. 👍🏻
Was that a Lenny Kravitz baseline (the slapped one)?
Oh my god it was
Can i call my band "Finger Cheese" or is it already spoken for?
What, no Inspector Gadget in the demo?
Pull it back...🤯
The rag you were using at first was too dirty IMHO.

Mike Herrera is the reason I own a stingray.
GREG! GREG! GREG!
3M white pads are comparable to 0000 steel wool, without the steel.
But I personally use Gorgomyte, I get the Fret-Not fret polish and fingerboard cloths on Reverb.

haha totally fair Alana!!!
MXPX lol slowly going the way of the buffalo is such a weird album. Like free form existential pop punk
I think as a bass player you either Love or dislike music man basses. I've got a love - hate relationship with my stingray .
Oh my gosh!! You’re Ex-Lover is Dead! That makes my heart very happy
if they made a 30” or 30.5” Sterling bass, doesn’t matter the finish, electronics or how much it costs. I’d buy it in seconds.
If you haven't tried out one of the Sting Ray Short Scale (either Ernie Ball Music Man, or Sterling by Music Man) models, they are amazing! Also, fully passive, too.
I'm never saying string winder again, only tuner-turner
You should go ASMR with this channel
Ike and Tuner Turner …
I'm a technical guy. I'm disappointed there were zero measurements taken. 30 minutes of talking during a string change.
Total chick magnet.
Lovely colour!!! Plus, nothing wrong with pick playing, players should be diverse in styles and techniques (imo)
