To celebrate the end of awesome decade of 2010's, I present you...
A remake of Lego Airplane Crash (2015), my most viewed video to date.

I can only imagine the amount of work it must take to make all of those people walk at the same time
It does take a long time, about 2 hours to make a large scale scene where 10+ minifigures are moving at the same time.
But if you take a closer look, you can see that some of the minifigures are moving weirdly. Some of them are not moving left foot right foot pattern because I couldn't remember every single one's walking cycle.
This problem happens to me quite often.
I have no experience in stop-motion but I can only guess it takes several hours per few frames...

Answer to your question.
I use cotton to create the explosion cloud. I hide LED lights (or any other bright small lights) inside the cotton.
