This video clearly shows how exciting Roller Derby can be with clean skating not a lot of gratuitous violence. Interesting to see Skaters only heard of though never seen like Joyce Beasly, Jean Porter, & Bobbie Matteer. Thanks again for posting this video.
The scoreboard at 3:43 reads "Visitors" and "Seattle," and the venue was announced as the Civic Ice Arena, so this is in Seattle. The Civic Ice Arena later became the Seattle Center Arena and ended its life as Mercer Arts Arena, a temporary home for the opera and ballet while the nearby Opera House was being rebuilt as McCaw Hall.
It’s sad Roller Derby could have become a major legitimate sport in this country if only ownership would have stuck with this kind of game Instead they went th e phony wrestling route I hope some promoters with money could bring this sport back today
So many questions! Were the Ravens based in the northwest at this time, or were they just given home team status on a tour? Were the Westerners or Red Devils in the league then?
@@astroworfcraig9164 Yes when the Ravens played the Chiefs in NY, they were billed as the Hollywood Ravens. There was also a Hollywood Stars team that once played in NY too. Thanks for the videos. This is the Roller Derby I grew up on, hard skating and very little shenanigans.
I'm hoping in 2023 we get to see rarely seen Classic Roller Derby games.

Thank you for posting this vintage Roller Derby video.

This is what Roller Derby was. Not like the baffling from LA. 😊
I loved Jean Porter a great skater .
Roller Derby is better in the past. The way its done today isn't Roller derby.
It wasn't then either.

I think the Ravens were the Northwest team, and I might be wrong but I think the Brooklyn Red Devils were around then as well.
@@Crusader7077 Thx. I asked because I read somewhere that the Ravens were once based in Hollywood. The fluidity of the "league" always fascinated me.

Every one in this video is dead now
Who out there actually thinks that "roller derby"............WAS REAL?
