I love how you got the groove in the bobbin and the easy flyer! This video is great and I keep coming back to it as I make my first spinner.

Hi, thanks so much, so I actually used a router for the grooves, but after making a couple like that I realized it was a ton of work and you could totally use 2 wheels for a wooden car, like you would find at a craft store and glue them together to make one. Try to get like a 3 inch or larger size.

Loved the info . personally I like the wing nut you used better than a normal nut because it will keep it from loosening by itself due to vibration or gravity.

    Hi !
I'm finishing m'y homemade drum carder and the next step is what you did !
I just wonderded, since I'm French and in the video it's going a little fast, do you have something with the lenght and specs written somewhere ???
It would help à loooot (and with the imperial mesurements too 🤣)
Thanks a lot for the very complete video anyway !!

Thank you so much for this video. I'm making my own and haven't found a good explanation until your video.

I went to your site, and although you have plans for a drum carder, I could find nothing on plans for making a wheel. I applaud your ingenuity.

CleverEwe Hi! and thank you... there are no actual plans for this wheel. The wheel is just described in this video. It could be designed any way anyone wants. I just wanted to show people how I decided to make mine and tried to give all of the dimensions. If you have any other questions about the construction of the wheel I will be happy to answer as best I can.

Thank you for this information. I already own a Louet S10, so I think I shall go order your drum carder plans in the near future.

Great concept. I'm looking to build one of these up with a bicycle wheel. Thanks for the work on making the video. How has it done over the years?

The wing nut is better bc its easier to adjust with your fingers than a regular nut would be

I am new to the idea of spinning I would love to spin finer yarn. If I used say a smaller PVC pipe would this spin a finer yarn? does this have single or double truffles?I also was wondering if you could make a list of materials and sizes of your version of everything that you used in the drop down description. Thank you 😀

It’s not the size of the orifice, that determines the size yarn, it’s the speed of the twist.

Hi, This is my own plan. This pretty much is the link lol... I used the Dodec free plans as a base design, I constructed the rest basically out of what I had laying around and designed it to work with the flyer plans I found in the book Spinning and dyeing yarn by Ashley Martineau -the flyer was totally her design and a fantastic one at that! I highly recommend that book for any fiber artist! I'm not endorsed or affiliated by/with her / or that company or anyone for that matter-I just think its a super informative book for so many things to do with fiber. I have used it for dyeing my wool, cleaning it, making this flyer and bobbin set up. It was totally worth what I paid! Hope this helps and the Dodec plans are good spinner plans to work with, easy to use, so helpful with measurements, easy to find pieces. pretty simple to do by yourself as well, if you're somewhat handy.

Babes are great wheels. Try them yourself (esp the Production and Bulky) before dissing them. I have many expensive wheels and I go back to my Babe Production every time.

Kelly Bell this video is from over a year ago and was intended to be nothing more than Information on how to build a spinning wheel for those who want to. I was not dissing babe wheels, I personally have heard from some people to avoid them because they are plastic but a wheel is a wheel and I'm sure they are great! I have actually looked into them since the video and they do look sturdy and efficient. Thanks for watching!

how does barban store the yarn ??

    • @huggableearth9832
      @huggableearth9832  8 ปีที่แล้ว

sisir bk The wheel gets driven by the treadles and that in turn collects the yarn on the bobbin because the wheel has the drive band around it that is also around the bobbin. Hope this helps. It takes some time to fully understand the way they operate when we want to make them.

Nice wheel! I recently made myself a dodec style spinning wheel as well. A bit simpler than this one but it works! Check out the video on my channel!
