Unboxing the world's most prestigious CHALK

  • Among the world's best mathematicians, there is one chalk more infamous and prestigious than all the rest: Hagoromo Fulltouch. This originally Japanese brand was loved so much by the math world that when the company shut down mathmaticians started hoarding the chalk until finally a South Korean company bought up the recipe, machines and brand. Today I find out whether Hagoromo Fulltouch chalk really is all it is....chalked up to be. I also unbox my Silver Play Button!!!
    Added a link to the chalk in my Amazon Affiliate store: www.amazon.com/shop/treforbazett. Thankfully it is MUCH less expensive now than it was during the crisis!!

    Ok ... I'm an engineering professor and I have long since migrated to a glass board and markers. But I did use chalk for years and years. One thing I want to bring up: the erasability of a chalk mark is going to be a function of the chalk itself and the finish of the slate onto which you're writing. I have not studied the problem but I suspect erasability is an interface issue, which is chalk and slate dependent.

    • @DrTrefor
      @DrTrefor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I do much prefer glass to whiteboards, but I still think chalk is the best:D And I agree, it definitely depends on the quality of the slate as well.

    Many schools are transitioning to white board and markers in their classrooms where I live so I bought a white board and some markers for me to check out and it was good. There was no dust and you could rub it with anything without any smears or residue on the cloth. A year back I was learning Physics and Maths (still am) and naturally the urge of "scribbling equations" came out in me and I used to solve a lot of problems on my white board but I used to see my professors and other TH-camr scientists "scribble equations" on a black board and I don't know why but I instantly thought that it was better. Now I have more fun learning and solving Physics and Maths on a blackboard with chalk. Earlier I used to think of my professors who loved blackboards as just a preference but the more I learn Maths the more I want to spend time scribbling on a blackboard, it just feels more handy, close and natural.

    Holyshit, our teachers had a black market lf these chalks. One teacher couldn't afford the full touch so used to use a non plastic coated one. Gave me one back in the day because I answered a question correctly. Then there was this teacher who used to hoard these and never let anyone touch it. He had the full touch but for odd reason used a chalk holder defeating the purpose of that
    I'm not someone who fantasises over chalk or math but his reaction to how the chalk feels on the board is 100% accurate or probably even downplayed. It was the most satisfying thing in the world even when I wrote with what was just a small bud

    i really missed the blackboard and chalk in schools here, they first chaged them for simple whiteboards with markers that were always dry and worked poorly, then changed to these interactive boards (that were just giant touch monitors for writing) always attached to the most crappy pc they could find in the school basements because schools in italy have little to no budget and are falling apart (i went to a school that actually had multiple windows falling out or ceilings developing cracks in a year). I think writing with chalk actually gave me 10iq points.

    I miss my Hagoromo chalk 😕 I still have a box, but I’m at a school with whiteboards now. Nothing say “physics” like chalk on a chalkboard, though 😎

    When he wrote that M I was like ... Wow! You can feel it through the YT, well done video. And yeah I think that the white board is blasphemy. Much better to use electronic equipment (like projecting e ink tablet) than the whiteboard.

    Not a math/academic person, haven't used it since when Westlife was still around.. it's either whiteboard or touchscreen tech whiteboard nowadays.. in layman terms it's like a mechanical keyboard.. once you use it (like u said buttery smooth)u can't go back to factory stock office rubber Dome keyboard ever.. it always strains my fingers when using it

    Hello Dr. Trefor do you believe that every number series (like Fibonacci series etc.,) follow some pattern which will help to prove some hard conjectures??

    • @DrTrefor
      @DrTrefor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah, plenty are just weird series that don’t have any obvious application
