    • @tangwarren

      You can buy aquarium sand from Petco, PetSmart, or Amazon. It's usually some type of silica sand or coral sand.

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +JayTheJay My triops lived for about 2 months after hatching. Since triops live in stagnant puddles of water in the wild, they don't really need super clean water. But the water in my tank would get cloudy/dirty looking after about 1 or 2 weeks, so I got into the habit of changing about 50% of the water every week to keep the tank looking good. I would carefully pour about half the water out of the tank, and then add fresh Poland Spring bottled water to replace it. If you do this, just make sure the fresh water is the same temperature as the old water.

    Yo I got one right now and what do I feed them?

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can feed them any kind of organic or plant matter. I fed my triop tiny bits of carrots and peas. I also gave it a tiny bit of fish food from the pet store. Only give an amount they can finish eating within a few minutes. If you give too much, the leftover food will rot and pollute the water.

  • @dirtymig0pp772

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I changed the water once a week. Don't use tap water or distilled water. Bottled spring water, like Poland Spring, is best. Also, don't just feed them the food pellets. I gave the triops tiny bits of lettuce and cooked peas sometimes and they loved it. If you only have 2 triops and one is a lot bigger than the other, you might want to separate them before the big one eats the little one... yes, triops eat each other. 😲

    I puted in the food what should I do

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be careful not to give them too much food, only enough food they can eat in one day. Because leftover food causes bacteria to grow in the water.

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once they hatch, they grow really quickly. When they first hatch, you can barely see them. They're like little white specks moving in the water. But every day they get remarkably bigger. I'd say about 2-3 weeks after they hatch, they reach full adult size.

      The eggs hatch after about 3 days. But they're really really tiny when they first hatch. They're like tiny little specks in the water and it's really hard to even see them. After a few days they get a little bigger and are easier to see.

    What kind of water do you use after they have hatched and are adults? Like when moving them to a bigger tank

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  ปีที่แล้ว

      I still use bottled spring water, like Poland Spring. That's because they don't stop growing even when they're adults. They still grow and molt their shells every week or two. And when they molt they need the minerals in the water. Bottled distilled water is too pure, with no minerals. And tap water has chlorine which is poisonous.

    Bought this for my grandson's birthday November 23rd. By December 24th the "One & Only" monster that remained died. By the way, the tank was full of "hatchlings," too numerous to count, but they all got eaten up by the "One & Only. How could that monster be so cruel??? Maybe it would have lasted longer had it not eaten its relatives.

    • @theretep6494
      @theretep6494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They only do that if not fed properly. Triops will eat anything organic, so if you were to not feed them for some period of time then they will eventually start preying on fish. If they are fed regularly they should just ignore everyone else in the tank.

    • @tangwarren

      Kim Taylor Sure, you can use this tank for your eggs. Triops don't need a big tank. In the wild they live in puddles of water.

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doesn't matter if you put the water in first. Even if you had put the sand in first, when you add the water, it will still get cloudy. The triops don't mind cloudy water at all. In fact, in the wild they live in dirty puddles of water. Just make sure you don't use tap water from the sink because it has chlorine. Use bottled water like Poland Spring.

      @tangwarren  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The triops don't really mind if the water is cloudy. In the wild they live in muddy puddles of water. But I cleaned the aquarium anyway because it looks better with clean water. Once a week I would carefully pour out about half the old water and replace it with fresh Poland Spring water. Just make sure the new water is room temperature (not too cold or too hot).

    • @tangwarren
      @tangwarren  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes there are eggs of other little critters mixed in with the triops eggs by accident. For example, I know some people have gotten fairy shrimp eggs and/or daphnia eggs hatching with their triops. Your orange creatures may be triops, or they may be something else. Once they grow a little bigger you'll be able to see more clearly what they are. And don't worry, they grow pretty fast! Triops are voracious eaters so, in many cases, if other things hatch with the triops, the triops will eventually eat them.

They are really tiny and they just nibble on the algae that's growing on the stuff floating in the tank. When they are about 1 week old you can feed them 1 food pellet each day. When they get bigger, you can feed them 2 or 3 feed pellets each day.
