    after watching this review multiple times i have now bought the .177 RM8 UC. My first PCP after 40 years of using a .22 springer and im impressed. Unfortunately i had a budget and list of things i needed to work (pump, case, pellets and sight). as wife is in bed i can safely say i got carried away and smashed my budget. I went for a better scope than planned using info i got from your review on scopes. ended up getting a milboro 2020 scope which seems to do the job out to 40mtrs. i also got a bit carried away and bought the nite site viper to go with it. basically all the extras doubled the price of the rifle but to me, made the whole setup a dream for ratting. Thanks for the info and keep them coming incase i need to buy something else :-)

    Fantastic video, very fair review I feel, just moving up from my Springer going into PCP and went for this, got a full package including rifle, scope, bipod, silencer, hard case and 3L filled air tank for £750 which I thought was an absolute steal.

    I've got this beauty of a PCP rifle in .22 calibur, which i purchased from my local gun smiths. My rifle is fitted with a "Hawke" scope and bipod and firing at my local gun range, i can knock out groupings the size of a 5p coin at 35-40 meters. Yes it's a bit on the heavy side for me and the silly "Auto Safety Catch" engaging at every reload is a niggle (i know there's a video on here on how to disable this) but it means stripping the gun down in order to carry out the task but i do love this gun so much. Great video btw, Steve.

    Hi Steve, I have had this gun for around 6 weeks and for the money it's pretty decent.
    Once you get used to the safety it becomes second nature to knock it off without even thinking about it.
    8 shots is fine for me. It is weighty but you get used to it.
    A good fair review.

    Hi Steve, I have 2 RM8's in .22. Out of the box, they are an Awesome gun, for the price point, and can find wonderfully accurate out to 40 and 50m. I take small South African game on a regular basis in my garden with them. They can be a little noisy, but a decent silencer will put paid to that. Good review.

      But what diameter JSB?, what grain?.
      My RM8 likes a heavier pellets,absolutely lights out with jsb hades, my tx200 loves crossman premier and 5.52 jsb but hates 5.51 jsb.

  • @ambientfish1369
    @ambientfish1369 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Had mine for 6 months now, bolt does get smoother as you put more pellets through and you can help the shot cycle by seating the pellets. I find that my UC gets pretty close to my HW100KT out to 30 yards, not shot it further but I see no reason to suspect it would not keep up out to 50, mine works well with 7.80 grain Accupell, 8.44 and 10.34 grain JSB Exacts. Nice review Steve.

    My beech stocked RM8 with a Photon RT and Webley Accupel FT .177, 8.64gr (with Napier) is laser flat at 25-30yds on rats.
    Had it for just over 12 months and the bolt was annoyingly notchy at first but with regular cleaning/lubrication and about 1500 pellets seems to have bedded in very nicely.
    Love my (slightly heavy) little rifle.

    My 1st air rifle, ever, is the Co2 .177 Umarex 850 / Hammerli. Only the price of 88gram co2 annoys (£7 a go locally) so I bought an adapter to take 2 x 12gram co2 cartridges & I keep them warm in my pocket. Additional 8 shot magazines were cheap, I fill 4 of them at a time. The auto safety is simply a feature of this system & flicks off easily, not an issue for me. There is info out there re how to defeat the auto IF you really feel the need, I don’t. Looking for a 1st PCP I plan to go get me a Rotex RM8 in January 2021 & I’ll keep the ‘850. Just a matter of which Rotex model to choose. Then I’ll go for a high end air rifle .. & no doubt keep the Rotex.

    Went and considered buying one Steve , came close, but in the shop the plastic looked cheap, good rep , good accurate barrel , got many things going for it, but something in my head was against it, like the metal magazine , ended up buying a Gamo Phox, gonna get that tuned and regulated after the lockdown , and apparently that will double shot count , however the rx8 looked appealing in the dark wood stock but was a lot more money, thanks for the review Shane uk 🇬🇧, ps also after lock down gonna get a hw97 underlever after watching yours and several other reviews cheers buddy

    Automatic safety on a multi shot pcp would drive me nuts.
    I've got to say I've always been a bit of a snob when it comes to filling up my rifles and always used my dive cylinder, luckily I brought a second hand at 44 for my son to try out and it came with a brand new webley three stage pump and although it is a work out filling up I'm so glad I own one now considering the covid 19 and the fact that there is no shops open to get a refill for my cylinder,

      It kind of defeats the whole purpose of owning a multi shot, after all, its about the ability to load that vital follow up shot if for whatever reason the kill shot wasn't clean, I remember around 12/15 years ago when lot of manufacturers were making two shot built in magazines on the rifles they were selling.

  • @Simon_Nonymous
    @Simon_Nonymous 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    No one moaned about the Rapid 7 having a low magazine capacity when that was new. The RM8 magazine - I used a bit of plastic rod with a smooth end to seat the pellets in the mag, plus once inserted, a wee push to rotate the mag and make sure the hand was aligned with the magazine. My usual left hand position when prone and zeroing is under the butt stock, and could reload without any of the wobbling/rifle movement seen here. A good video - thank you, I think I would buy another one. Small request - on pellets such as the JSB Exact, could you include the head diameter possibly, as my RM8 loved 4.53mm heads but groups opened up with other sizes of head. Cheers!

    the only real issues i've found with the varmint is the mags, a soft metal star wheel wears out quickly and also the bolt does on occasion not quite rotate the mag so you get the odd fart as no pellet has entered into the barrel. Compared to other air rifles especially with scope and bipod fitted yes it is a little on the heavy side

    Grate detailing in review steve 5☆ do you know if the uc is any different to shoot to the regular size as in accuracy range power, I'm wanting a .22 or .177 for rabbiting and targeting from 15 to 40 yds what would you recommend between the two models, I have a Hogan deci silencer and a POA topaz 4x16x50 ir scope for it just wana conferm the model before I order mine

      @airgunology  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be no difference in power, only size and shot count. So down to you, do you want a smaller rifle and lower shot count, if no, then go for the regular RM8

    How do you rate this compared to the bsa ultra ?

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very close, the RM8 has higher shot count due to its bottle.

    H&N FTT pellets seem to be absent from some of you air rifle reviews and considering they're a quality accurate pellet is there any particular reason for this. I'd certainly include them in any rifle I tested.

    I've had an rm8 for four years and it's just started to leak air.
    Hopefully a simple reg or O ring issue. If not its buy a new gun.
    Was it worth buying one of these? I'm not sure.

    Almost bought one of these 3 wks ago Steve , but a Gamo Phox instead , I’m put off with the shape of the air bottle , and quite heavy and to me the plastic looks and feels cheap, love the metal rotary mag and it’s got a good rep for accuracy,, still glad I didn’t get one , was after the Nova Vista , but all the shops local to me appeared to be sold out , so got the Phox as my second choice , will show it on my channel in the next week cheers shaneweightman Shane uk 🇬🇧

    My first pcp is an rm8. Bought one of the wooden stock ones, when they first came out. It's got a soft touch black coating. Nice to hold and grippy. You're right about the weight, its heavy.best used off bipod. More accurate than I am. 4 magazines in one hole , under a pound coin size. No fliers yet. It likes jsbs. The bolt is a wee bit notchy. And best of all the older ones have a manual safety. Still looks the same type as newer ones. But what's that about auto safety on a multi shot rifle. They've shot themselves in the foot with the newer one. I was lucky enough to get a konus first focal plane scope, from an rd that was closing, for way less than a hawke vantage.

    Great review as always. Yep, too many negatives for me also. Not a gun I would want either brother. I hate auto safeties and small magazines, plus the weight on such a short barreled gun...definitely a killer. But, to be fair, for the price, a newbie could use this gun for hunting and pest control without any problems. Stay well and safe bud. Thank you.

    Imagine back in the late 80’s how many FT comps must have been lost due to crap pellets. Even using state of the art PCP’s like the GC2 and Mick Dawes Special, these great rifles were let down by piss poor ammo..

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Air Rifles are very dependent upon the pellets used. You have to shot a load of different ones to find the pellet that works for your barrel. So you are correct, wrong or crap pellets will make even the best rifles to shoot bad.

    • @Letskeepthingsreal
      @Letskeepthingsreal 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Allan , yes I know buddy.
      If only JSB ‘s were around during the late 80’s and 90’s, those fine guns and shootersI mentioned would have realised their true potential .
