Up there by “The Jolly Sailor” the paddle boarders appear in their droves. Pretty much like pedestrians walking down the M27 like a bunch of Meerkats wondering what is going on. Usually politeness and a very slow approach clears them out of your way…..
Really like the ease of tutorial. No gumpf, no unnecessary long intros. Just get in, show how it’s done with perfection, and jobs a good un. Great vid, got yourself a new subscriber 👍🏼
Very impressive, if I ever decide to borrow a 60ft yacht I'll know what to do thanks to these great vids 👍👍. Good of Hugo to lend his boat for this episode 😎👍❤️🇬🇧
At this point, boating is merely a dream for me. This tutorial lets me know that it is something that I want to do. I want to do the loop. Maybe in about 10 years.
When I was in the sea scouts. We where taught to never use the wheel. Only throttles until we made into the channel. I’m older. So I know things have changed over the years. Yet I still only use the throttles and thruster. 👍🏼
Great video and love how calm you remain while walking through the process. I never really saw leaving as a challenge, it is coming back in that gets the nerves going. Any chance you can do a follow up for coming back in single handed?
All well and good John but can you do this in 0 visibility, thick fog, one engine, 100 knots of wind, a hurricane approaching and the fall out of a recent thermonuclear strike clouding your view and giving you radiation poisoning, and very little fuel in your tanks? No! No Sir. Some of the comments on here really are quite funny. Great vid Mr Mendez....I get so much from your tutorials....good to see you still posting.
I've never been on a boat, but I now know how to dock one and take it out all on my o ne o. As for the driving, it reminds me of what you do in a car, slow and steady, and be observant, only you're on water and it's bigger then a car.
It doesn’t seem to work that way for me.😖 I was taught to center the rudder at the dock and never touch the wheel (use only the throttles) until out of the docking phase. I have a catamaran (12 M Catalac) and no bow thrusters. Does that make a difference regarding whether to use the wheel/rudders at slow speeds?
Not really. It can be done either way but you get into the danger of using throttles when the rudder is not straight ahead, when you think it is. I insist others drive my cat throttles only in a marina or mooring area. Using one engine (the one farthest away from the side you are backing to) into a berth is my usual method, it allows you, in forward to angle the bow to the dock and in reverse to push the stern into the dock. I have the other engine in idle if needed on windy and high current marinas where more speed is your friend. André in Sydney
Not exactly impressive. Leaving the dock with the wind holding the boat on the dock is generally quite easy. This would have been more impressive if he demonstrated how to leave a dock solo when the wind is blowing the boat off the dock which involves much more complex line handling skills.
The calmness of big JM to drive it, talk to camera clearly, even throw in some casual paddle board banter! Cooler than Bond

It's like most things, if it looks like no effort it's because it's being done properly. 👍
Jon explains this so simply that even a novice can understand it!
Sort of, but I think he's a closet man that should come out

I’m with you Garnock. That coming back in part 😳
Can you do similar for a single engine shaft driven boat with no bow thruster and in various wind conditions?
Yea and let it be a 55ft boat :D
@@SaleQl 🤣
“Some suicidal paddle boarders” is the best comment of the entire video.

Whilst being strafed by the Luftwaffe!
Why would you want to take a boat out in those conditions? 😕

Excellent demonstration and explanation 👍
Hi John, I really enjoy your Vlogs!
Nicely done Jon. Great video thanks 😊
Great example, brilliant short video.
im doing my boating licneces now (24m) im totally new to all of that. How long is that boat in the video?
Excellent job 👍
talk about ideal conditions ... bow thruster, no wind, little current, twin screw and a very fine yacht.
Nice work. I notice the drone shot had another boat in the birth but the instructional video was in an empty birth.
Well done.
Love your videos but this one is even better as I own a squadron 58 ❤
Mine’s 45’ with no thrusters. Would love to see demonstrations with and without the use of thrusters!
Be good to see it without the bow thruster?
I once was told by a captain to never touch the wheel when manoeuvring in a dock. Rely only on the engines. Is that correct?
Too easy when it's calm..that Squadron is gorgeous
Great stuff Jon - just need another engine!
I don’t have any boats these days but I love watching this man! Suicidal paddle boarders! Hahahaha!
Could you please tell me the make and model of your life jacket please?
Hi. Not Jon here, just your friendly MBY web person. But that lifejacket is a Spinlock Deckvest - and very good they are too.
Thanks

Suicidal paddleboarders. Love it!
