My partner and I were at this concert to see Mariza and Songhoy Blues were a very happy very enjoyable bonus...the Barbican is not the easiest place to go wild but I can vouch for the love and appreciation they received from the crowd. For my part I found out my father passed away in the US on the day of this concert. I was very sad but chose to celebrate my father's spirit through the fabulous performances we saw. Thanks for posting this xx
They are actually the former Malian musician, Ali Farka's musician heirs. Very nice songs. No matter where I may be, I like my country from the North to the South; as well as from the East to the West. God Save Mali United.
Love Songhoy Blues, followed them since they played a set at one of the minor stages at Glastonbury years ago. They are so full of life and passion - ffs crowd why aren't you in the aisles dancing???????
Saw them tonight in Vancouver- what a great band! So tight and fun, excellent writing over cool polyrhythms. See them if you can. PS- this crowd should dancing and sweating their asses off! Energy tonight at the show was through the roof.
I saw them at a small club in Chicago, Martyr's, probably a few years before this performance. They were not yet widely known. My friends and I loved the show. I talked to the front man on the sidewalk as they were packing up. I asked them if there were American rock or blues musicians that influenced them. He practically drew a blank and then said Jimmy Hendrix. I took that to mean, No. I don't hear any Hendrix at all. I gather they didn't listen to American rock or blues.
Watching this on YT I couldn't hold still... I can't imagine what I would be doing seeing this live! cardboard people, yeah... I've been to seated gigs were everyone was just dancing anyway.

Is the audience real or carboard? FFS people... Awesome band and performance.
613 The Evil TBF, it's a seated gig, which is never ideal and always feels a bit weird. The applause is warm and forthcoming though!
