ur setup is running circles. its not pushing forward. but as long as it keeps u happy, go 4 it :) hope u enjoy the dac. because then it was worth it already. ur already on a pretty good level. to get much higher u would need to change alot. build a baffle wall for example. and build speakers that are designed for being in a baffle.
Thanks, Jay. Certainly the right direction with the Lampizator Horizon DAC. I own a older Lampizator, Audio Note 2.1 Signature, and now Abbas DAC. All are amazing sounding tube DACs. The stand out for me is the Abbas Esoteric Audio DACs. You ought to review the new flagship Abbas Hermes or Psyche DACs!!
Jay you need to get the Playback Designs MPD8 DAC. It is arguably the BEST in the world and only 24k. OCDMike can probably get you a good deal as he sells these.
@jaysaudiolab I have this DAC. I was curious as to the tubes. I see the 2 into 1 Takács László adapter but what are the tubes brother? Thanks for answering. Cheers from Italy 🇮🇹
I have the lampizator golden gate2 with lampizator hybrid mono amplifiers The gg2 have a preamp bulit into it but i am using electrocompaniet 4.8 mk2 as my preamp
I am using Mullard NOS CV181, Takatsuki 274B, and TungSol KT170. The soundstage is amazing, vocal is full and sweet. What tubes are you using? I have heard of one other DAC that bettered the Horizon slightly, but it needed multiple boxes to reach that high. Also to slightly reduce the brightness, try using RCA output. You will have to turn up the pre out volume higher compare to XLR, but I find this to give a more balance sound (using exact same brand and model RCA vs XLR interconnects).
Poland not only makes the best dacs. but also speakers. you would need to fly to Poland but you dont like omni sound, so i guess not your taste. but they also have directional models...
Lampizator is the best dac. Theres simply nobody that does it better. Lampizator brings that soul and emotion to the music where alot of other dacs just lack. Picking the right tubes is also crucial. Happy tube rolling and listening Jay.
He seems super cool, but it is funny that the production quality of his videos are a bit below standard... People reviewing 99 usd headphones has better lighting 😅
Save some money and buy an Audio Music DAC/1 for £13k. They piss all over Lampizator. Seems to look at price first is the wrong approach as many are overpriced.
Jay . OSWALDS MILL AUDIO.????? . The stuff looks wacky & expensive , I personally have not heard it but maybe you need to clear the lab of your current system and go full valve & Horn and of course analog 👍👍👍👍
Don't blame the DAC for sounding "bright" . Recordings are often far from euphonic sounding! Especially rock/rap/hip-hop. Listen to some of the Mercury classical CD's mastered by Wilma Cozert Fine from her husband Robert Fine's master tapes made on tube gear.
Honestly, if it was me and my money, the only person selecting any piece of equipment that I'm putting in my system is me, I am the one who's listening and living with it, I mean no disrespect but letting someone else choose any piece of hifi to put in my system is stupid, it could upset the balance of my system or yours, anyway please stay safe everyone and look after yourselves 😁
It is almost impossible to value a tube component because every tube (combination) gives a different sound. But hey… there are nerds for whom tube rolling is a way of life. Still…. 😊 enjoy until you get the real champion in the Dac world (Wadax)
I love this DAC, every time I have heard it I have been impressed, very orgnanic, very real, incredible dynamics and no digital 'hardness' to harshness but all the resolution you could ever ask for
I went to AudioShow Warsaw last year. Been in all 3 places ( Sobieski Hotel, National Stadium and Tulip Hotel - I believe, but kept coming back to Lampizator / Sveda / KBL room 3 or 4 times. I could have stayed there forever. That was music at it's best. Just life changing experience. If I could only afford this.....
Jay, as you know, I'm a proponent of using a quality tube line stage as the buffer between a great Solid State dac, and Class A amp. However, in my opinion tube dacs, including Lampizator dacs are for those who prefer a rolled off upper treble and smoother delivery. Their tube signature sound, is indeed less resolving than a high end Solid State dac, such as the excellent MSB, Esoteric dacs you've featured in the past. I will encourage those who want a more musical engaging sound, yet highly resolving line stage to audition the Luxman Cl-1000. Its a hybrid designed line stage in which tubes are used to gain voltage output and soften the harshness of the digital signal. Of course a separate dac must be added. Thank you as always for your excellent work.
What a cool looking piece of gear. I've always like seeing the 'bottles of fire' and the old-fashioned number displays are great. I don't care for bright or forward sounding gear, so careful matching with has been important. Must admit, trial and error, along with a healthy amount of pure dumb luck has done me pretty good as well as vendors with good home trial policies.
I sometimes listen to NPR classical music via web radio on my DAC. The sound is full, warm and analog like, because it is in a low resolution MP3 format. Compared to 24bit 196K hz file, it doesn’t have the ultimate resolution or separation, but it is much easier on ears and I can listen to it for hours.
We have tried a lot of different DACs For example the Horizon dac wiped the floor with Esoteric Grandioso. Not even close. The Soundstage was much larger, and the detail was there, but not at the expense of brightness. It was the most musical organic that we have used to date at Sound Insight. Definitely replace the stock fuse with a Synergistic master fuse, 3.1 slow blow small size for a dramatic increase in sound quality. The best tubes are: Tung Sol KT 170’s Shuguang Black Treasure 6SN7 Sophia Electric 274 b
Nothing inherently “bright” about a digital signal. This is a matter of design and materials perhaps but not the signal itself. We know this is true regarding other gear. DACs sound different for these reasons.
I have an old Rotel Cd player that has lampizator tweaks tda1541a dac, valve outputs . which I bought off a friend 2nd hand. Very nice sounding player .
In next 6 months, when your endorphines and oder "hormones of happines" get to normal level, meaning when it become boring to you, I will offer you 20K for it!
I hope in the next video there will be a comparison, with dcs (apex or not) and msb, even though I know it's on a different system Jay the best audiophile in TH-cam
If you’re looking for top-notch audio equipment but are struggling with limited options, you might need to compromise and prioritize the features that matter most to you.
WHAT A BEAUTY 👍 Crystal clear videos now in HDR 👍 Look forward to your thoughts. THANK YOU, JAY. Regarding brightness, years ago I started getting CHC Sean Jacobs PSUs for Naim streamers and preamps. SO GOOD. Adds a natural, dynamic, fast, detailed sound. Just perfect sound. Naim with a CHC PSU is NEVER BRIGHT. Wouldn't go back. Hans B did a review of a DAVE with Sean's top PSU (ARC6 DC4). Sean designs the Innuos PSUs. CHC are available to build within US now. Anyway, have you ever heard of CHC Sean Jacobs?
@@jaysaudiolab OK cool. That's what I have anyhow. But your Stromtank video really reminded me of the CHC PSU results. A great video last year. You are still the ONLY TH-camr to review the Stromtank - the only person who understands the importance. And Stromtank are common in shows now - even Wharfedale used them. I bet those companies watch your videos. Shows how far ahead you are and the influence you have 👍
So when we will see Pivetta Opera amp for over $1M in your room? Be bold man, be bold! Its what americans do, their gear is always the biggest, the boldest and the most scary. But not in audio?

Tubes add pleasant distortion. That's why guitar players love them.
what was the other DAC in the shootout?
Lampizator makes fantastic products. Aries Cerat is another company that makes phenomenal products, especially the Ithaka Dacs!
I’d be interested in what the other DACS that were used in the comparison.. Did I miss that part in the video?
Soon man
@@jaysaudiolab cool looking forward to it!
Lampizator now has an upgraded version called the Horizon 360 using KT88's for $55K.
Coming soon !
For the sake of Interest
what was the other DAC?
I'm curious why you didn't choose the Lampizator Poseidon, their flagship DAC.
Horizon is the flagship, Poseidon is the newer cheaper model
It would be good to compare it with the top DCS, EMM Labs and Accuphase converters
I listened to the level 4 and its the best dac Ive ever heard. I keep wondering what the Horizon can do.
Jay you need to get the Playback Designs MPD8 DAC.
It is arguably the BEST in the world and only 24k. OCDMike can probably get you a good deal as he sells these.

How did you figure out what’s the best tubes to roll? I am pretty new to Lampi and I can’t find any guide
Thanks
Jay, how come you have a Horizon DAC for sale on your site ?
It’s sold. I had 2 of them. I am keeping one for me
Glad your keeping one, I would love to ow one, Lamp is a clever guy@@jaysaudiolab
Jay, how do you compare the Lampizator Horizon vs. the MSB Select II?
Poland not only makes the best dacs. but also speakers. you would need to fly to Poland but you dont like omni sound, so i guess not your taste. but they also have directional models...
Great, shallow minded OCD Mickey will be having his period over this :) haha
ooo, it's here. Lampizator Horizon suspected and hoped for.
Audio Music DAC/1 probably better.
Lampizator is the best dac. Theres simply nobody that does it better. Lampizator brings that soul and emotion to the music where alot of other dacs just lack. Picking the right tubes is also crucial. Happy tube rolling and listening Jay.

Thanks!
Nixie tubes inside the unit, I feel like that is too much electrical interference for no reason really.
Yeah you are rigth....
It's to keep it an all tube design, for noise interference how about VR tubes in the power supply? 😀
Audio Note 5th Element DAC way better.
