Looks like a bit of a fumble after the excellent Hurricane kits but I won’t have to deal with it because I don’t particularly want to build an Airacobra. Thanks for the peek inside the box Gary. Sending your wife my best wishes for a speedy recovery. 🙂

Hi Gary. Thanks for the review.
Sink marks are a bit troubling. No good having nice detail you have to fill/sand near it. As you say, might be a bad batch.
Look forward to seeing how it goes together. (I have their PZL P.11c in the pile which looks good, all on one frame).
Do like nose weights being included.
Hope Mrs Gary recovers quickly. Cheers Matt 🦘

Thanks Gary. The 1 72 kit is on the Shelf of Doom. Had no end of trouble with the fit of the internal front end. Don't know if that's me or the kit!

It's probably not you, Nigel. The nose gear on my 1/72 specimen was iffy as well, but I eventually got it and the completed model is gorgeous. I'd encourage you to get it finished!

Another comment I have seen states that parts for a P-39D & N, and a P-400 are all on these sprues. I think I will order one,but I already have a couple of the Hasegawa kits, a D and N model. It will be interesting to compare them.
BTW, I saw one source that stated that the Sand colour option on the box-art was a mistake - The aircraft had been earmarked for the Tunisian campaign and the sand colour (Commonly called "Titty pink" was used. The aircraft was diverted to the Pacific. The phrase "Dog's Bollix" crosses my mind... as in "Stands out like..."

I'm easy enough to confuse without the video title being wrong *lol*
The parts' detail looks great.. nice having an outer frame to protect fragile / small pieces. Pity about the gates joining on the edges.
The real problem with the spelling of transmitter and receiver is that they're spelt differently on the /same/ decal sheet
GIAP is apparently 'Guards Leningrad Order of Kutuzov Fighter Aviation Regiment', maybe just 'Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment'.

Those depressions are sink marks. You need to fill those in.
The lines look to be flow lines. You'll need to sand those gently to keep them from showing through the primer and paint.

Would much rather go for the Eduard profi-pack for a lot less money, just as nice, with photoetch and more paint schemes

Did they set the bar too high with the Hurricanes, or did their molders and QC royally let them down 🤔

From what I've read, the Russians loved the R-39 because it's best performance was at low altitude. The Soviets loved to fight down on the deck.

If you hadn't told us it was a brand new kit, I would have sworn blind that it was a reissue of a previous kit.
Whilst the details look good the frames look a bit so so to me.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I find they really seem to cram the frames together, just a different design philosophy I suppose.

@@garys_stuff yes, it looks that way,for a new pressing I would have thought quality control would have checked things a bit better.
Of course, it could just be a bad batch, with other kits being better.

I've built a couple of Arma Hobby kits and find that they are exceptional kits, but..
The sprue gates are awful and need careful clean up,
They can be over engineered, yes they're highly detailed, but sometimes you wonder why because you don't see them after they're built,
Highly detailed decals, some so small you can't even see them
Some connection points are very flimsy, almost non existent..
I'll carry on building what I've got, but be warned, if you've not built one before they need a lot of attention and are not for beginners..

I’ll be the black sheep and upset everyone.. I tried one over priced Arma hobby kit… nah, terrible, nice details but many kits have lovely detail, for a new kit this to me would either not be bought, if I was given it, I would re-gift or it would be bin fodder

Not a fan of ARMA, after they pulled a bait and switch on their Hurricane kit introduction, there are plenty of kits in the world these days to work with who are trust worthy .Not that one less customer will matter to them.
