2000 ஆம் ஆண்டில், கல்பனா STS-107 இல் பயணிக்கத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார். இந்த முயற்சி பலதரப்பட்ட தொழில் நுட்பக் கோளாறுகளாலும் கால அட்டவணையில் ஏற்பட்ட சிக்கல்களினாலும் காலம் கடத்தப்பட்டது.
ஜனவரி 16, 2003 இல் சாவ்லா மீண்டும் (STS-107) மீண்டும் விண்வெளிக்கு சென்றார். இந்தப்பயணத்தில் சாவ்லாவினுடைய பொறுப்புகளாக மைகிரோ கிராவிட்டி (micro gravity) சோதனைகள் அமைந்திருந்தன. இதற்காக அவரது குழுவினர் பூமியையும் விண்வெளியையும் கண்காணித்து 80 பரிசோதனைகளை மேற்கொண்டனர். அவற்றுள் விண்வெளி வீரர்களினுடைய ஆரோக்கியம் மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பு சம்பந்தப்பட்டதுமான விண்வெளி தொழில் நுட்ப மேம்பாடு வளரவுமாகப் பல்வேறு தரப்பட்ட பரிசோதனைகளையும் மேற்கொண்டது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது

Just a small change in the video bro.. Friction does cause the object to have a trail of fire. But, the actual reason is that while coming down from the rarer to the denser atmosphere a layer of plasma forms around the craft.. This could be seen if you had a match stick on a tube like chamber, and if you had another pipe with a lesser diameter with a closed ending, and you hit is with a force you can see that the match stick lights up due to the pressure..
