Hi from Scotland 🏴 I stayed in Rostov over 20 years as a friend was doing some volunteer work with the Salvation Army. We had an amazing time and met some of the friendliest people I have ever encountered. It’s lovely that so much has been upgraded as well in the years since my visit. I am sure we went to some massive statue on the city outskirts? It’s was incredible
Мой родной , любимый Ростов - на - Дону ! «Ворота Северного Кавказа « - так его называют . Летом у нас очень красиво ! Спасибо , что посетили наш южный город , это неожиданно ! Всех благ вам ! ❤️🙏 -
My god this place is so dear to me. I was born and raised in Russia Rostov-on-Don. My grandfather worked at an old red brick factory that actually was made of red bricks like the one in your video. That’s where we lived to in the town where the brick factory was. Back in 1994 my parents decided to move our family to USA Florida so that we could be with the rest of our family. We haven’t gone back yet to visit. I know I’m ashamed to admit that we haven’t been able to find a way to go back for a visit even though it’s already been 30 whole years since we left Rostov on Don. It’s not that we don’t want to, it’s because we’re always dealing with some problem as a family. Also because there are always babies born, or pets that are too attached for us to leave them with someone while we go to Russia. There are other reasons, but we have always wanted to go and still do. One day definitely we will gather ourselves together and go. Thank you for this video
My hometown, or how we say “little motherland” :) I live in the UK since the age of 12, but I retain very warm and fond memories of Rostov. As Russian Brit, who recently returned from her first motherland trip of the last 10 years, the city pleasantly surprised me. Hope you enjoyed the Don capital and thanks for a surprising visit to such an underrated part of Russia, that shows your truly open-minded and culturally appreciative mindset!
Thank you so much Alina! 🤗 I bet it felt almost surreal to go back after such a long time, really glad it pleasantly surprised you though ☺️ We actually love seeing all different parts of Russia, can't wait to be back already 😊 Спасибо большое 😘
It's so incredibly to look at my hometown where I live in a video through the eyes of foreigners... That feeling when I see the places in your video and thinking of something like"on that bench I hanged out with my sister, and on this street I walked recently" 😳 love my city so much, thank you guys for the video!
It's always a lot of fun watching you guys. And it's always nice to see your sister and brother, Julia. Keep those vlogs coming Matt. Rostov on the Don is a city that Harriet enjoyed immensely. A great vlog that brings back great memories. Keep smiling Julia 😍😍Sending you lots of love guys. Harriet and Jim
Thank u Matt and Julia .. I knew Russia is huge , but thanks for showing us areas I’ve never heard of .. lovely to see the family travelling with u 👍.. I admire and respect your travels .. where most people wouldn’t do ( for example extreme cold 🥶 areas ) I truly love all your videos .. due travelling in tiny rooms in trains 🚂 etc .. keep enjoying your travels .. and always look forward to seeing your next adventure .. thank u guys 🙏🙏👍👍
This is the South of Russia, there are no extreme cold here, for example, Sochi is subtropical. Rostov-on-Don is located not much to the north of Sochi. In Moscow and even St. Petersburg, which is called the Venice of the North, there are also no extreme temperatures in winter, frosts are not so common there, and in winter there is even a plus temperature. Extreme temperatures are much further north, and in Siberia too, in the north. The cold zone is Oymyakon in Yakutia, the temperature in winter there can drop to minus 72 degrees Celsius. This is considered an extreme temperature, and Rostov-on-Don is the south, there is not even snow there, and the summer is very hot, although in Siberia the summer is also hot, above 30 degrees.
Fun fact : your 4 bunks cheap Platzkart is the equivalent of a first class night train compartment of the French railways. In second class they heap up 6 people in the same space and it's not even cheap.
They used the old design train carriage, much more modern carriages are now being introduced into operation but it takes time to introduce them everywhere.
You`ve took one of the slowest trains, but alright, it was cheap enough. Most of trains get to Rostov in 15-18 hours. Rostov is lovely, especially in spring and autumn.
Great video and what a wonderful and relaxing sound track. I could just sit hear for hours watching you guys walk and film the scenery listening to the music. Very relaxing! Very good combination of sight and sound!
Another great video guys 😄 you make me want to take the train more often 🙂 great way to travel 😊 . Nice to see your siblings Julia . I would like to meet Matt's family too . It will make the picture complete ☺️
Лучше не летом а в Мае приезжать, все цветет, пахнет и не жарко еще но при желании можно в море поплавать, к середине мая Азовское море уже прогревается.
Dolomanovsky! My childhood home! So many memories of me looking over the train tracks from our balcony. Almost fell to my death from it as a kid lol. We had to sell the apartment at some point tho. We live in Canada now.
6:41 haha you guys are right next to my institute (that building to the left) and right next to our dormitory which I am chilling in, this is where we play football after lessons, run at P.E and clean our blankets on Sundays
thanks for such a sweet video, shedding light on Rostov! people living here can have conflicted feelings about this city, some just actively dislike it, but i believe it has some great things to offer. and it's always nice to see foreigners exploring Russia beyond its two main capitals. much love and respect for that! to everyone travelling to Rostov, i highly recommend taking a stroll through Nakhichevan-on-Don, part of Proletarskiy district. it's a former Armenian town that now still has a sweet nostalgic feel to it, mostly cosy streets and old one-two storey houses. it's about a 30-minute bus/trolleybus ride from the centre, and then you're free to just walk aimlessly for hours, taking in the atmosphere of that place. I feel like it's the best way to experience it
Another awesome video. I’m so glad your siblings are able to join you. You are my hero’s. I could not travel like that. I am just so happy to see where you go. It’s the closest I will ever come to going abroad. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Stay safe. ❤️❤️❤️
What a lovely video! It's rare to see someone from abroad pay attention to my hometown. Also, you rented an appartment 10 minutes away from my home, feels so weird watching this :D
Ростов-на-Дону, я был, там постоянно дует этот не прекращающийся ни на минуту ветер.🌬🌪 и рыба там самая вкусная. Нет на свете рыб вкусней, чем в Ростове-на-Доней!🐟🐟🐟
Aaaah, the glass train cups! They've stopped giving those out in Ukraine and are just using disposable paper ones (though the providnitsa still carries it in the metal frame, which she takes back). Supposedly it was because of COVID, but I'm not sure they'll ever go back to the glass cups. Those looked like river cruise boats. I suppose you could make it all the day to Kazan and then even further from Rostov-on-Don!
Nooo! 😩 Hope they go back to them, they are awesome! You can actually purchase them on Russian trains, can you in Ukraine? ❤️ Yeah, we actually looked at the river cruises from Rostov and there are some real epic ones! 🤗

Oh guys! You missed something special in Rostov-on-Don! There is a special place in our city where you can get only through friends. This is a collector's house, where thousands of artifacts from the Soviet and pre-revolutionary period are collected. There's a lot to see! If you will visit Rostov-on-Don again , I highly recommend it! (P.S. There's even a mock-up of a German airplane on the roof)
