Pakistan's ISI Can Intercept, Trace Calls for National Security | Vantage With Palki Sharma
The Pakistan government has authorised its spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to intercept and trace any phone calls and messages of its citizens. This unprecedented power to Inter-Services Intelligence has been sanctioned under Section 54 of the Pakistan Telecommunication Act 1996. The government has said they have taken this step to ensure national security. The move is aimed at preventing offences that might harm national interests. This decision by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government is expected to tighten the noose on the Opposition and the social media platforms. This comes after Pakistan's recent ban on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.
