      Everyone’s priorities are different, and NYC is cool as hell! Most diverse city in the world, which in itself is thrilling imo. I take the train in as often as I can for the incredible food, indie movie theaters, concerts, great live theatre, the list goes on and on. Last time I was there, I stumbled on a public outdoor roller skating rink with a million disco balls hung over it, and they were playing the new Beyoncé album front to back with people skating and losing their minds in the best way. I also love visiting states with tons of nature and wide open spaces. There are lots of ways to live a life☀️

    As a native New Yorker, I would never live in the city unless I received affordable housing units. Small, old apartments, parking is a nightmare. With 6k as my budget, I would live in any luxurary apartments in LIC or hip part of Brooklyn. Within 30 minutes to Manhattan, but rent is so much cheaper and apartments are a lot nicer.

    I could not imagine spending 6000 on rent. I'm a teacher in Germany, we are on the middle-higher spectrum of wages at about 3-5k before taxes (about 2,1-3,5k after taxes). My rent is pretty high at 900per month. I don't know how people are able to spend that much. NY is a money processing machine.

  • @micahsnow346
    @micahsnow346 ปีที่แล้ว +184

    Wow ok 😂 so I love Kaiti but I gotta say that this is an extremely atypical experience she’s had here. When I moved to NYC I wasn’t even hoping to get in-house laundry or modern renovations and I was totally prepared to be sharing the space with roommates and to not have the best lighting or live in the best part of town. And even with all that, I felt extremely lucky and blessed to be living in the city at all. Obviously Kaiti’s circumstances are different since she’s an influencer and actually needs to have a beautiful space for shooting - I’m not trying to shame anybody here. But I think it’s encouraging to know that if you’re willing to no make some more compromises you can live in NYC for a lot less and still very much enjoy your life here! Also, it can sometimes take months to find an apartment here so it’s hard not to be discouraged but if you really want to move here, stick it out and pray for the best :)

    • @OrangeGraffiti
      @OrangeGraffiti ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's taken me a while to watch this video because HARD SAME. I'm halfway through the video and she hasn't even left Manhattan yet T_T of course it's gonna be super expensive! I'm trying to not pass judgement, of course she has her needs but giving yourself 72 hours with such a huge budget seems... silly. I lived in NYC for 3 months, squatting in a strangers living room while I apartment hunted (it shouldn't take that long, I had just ended up befriending the stranger and we both didn't mind if I took my time). I ended up finding a super cute and modern apartment in Queens for $850, steps away from trains that could take me into Manhattan, and with two roommates. Taking your time to sift through all the options helps you find that diamond in the rough :)
      EDIT: girl, you only looked in Manhattah?! Ah... she'll see the beauty of the other boroughs as she lives there (hopefully) haha

    • @micahsnow346
      @micahsnow346 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I still managed to get a place in Manhattan but I'm always looking into options in other boroughs bc it is pricy...if you're willing to commute you can get even better accommodations deeper into Brooklyn, Queens, etc.

  • @charlesdale1428
    @charlesdale1428 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    In New York there is a rule that you have to make 40X what the monthly rent is to qualify so $6,000 a month X 40 = $240,000. The median income in NYC is $60,000 a year. I would imagine the percent of New Yorkers making $240,000 is 1-2%. This mother/daughter team is eating out, taking Ubers, etc. so they must have ALOT of money.
    I live in Rego Park Queens, nice neighborhood, quiet, safe, convenient to stores, mass transit, schools, medical, etc. in a full two bedroom apt. on the 14th floor, good view, corner apt., 2 elevators, security that acts as a doorman, laundry room on the main floor, buildings have a gym and the buildings are co-ops but since I have been living here since 1975, I still rent as most of the longer living tenants here. My apt. Is rent stabilized and I pay $628.56 a month, gas and electric included and repairs, if needed, are also included. Management treats the tenants and shareholders the same, very well. I will never give this apt. up. The rents in this video are INSANE! It only takes me about 30 minutes to get to Manhattan.

    I need to understand how folks are affording $6K per month (after NYC taxes). I would be a super Bridge and Tunnel chic after looking at the places in the city.

    ooo congrats Kaiti on getting an apartment in the big NYC I know that couldn't have been easy, this is amazing ❤‍🔥

    Only thing is if you have a ton of money, you'll likely want to buy a luxury apartment/townhouse, and then the price point will be more than you are budgeted for. So, you'll need even more money to get what you want to buy -- and you'll probably never have enough money. And if, somehow, you do, then you'll likely be working all the time and won't be able to enjoy your home, and...and...and.
    Here’s a thought. Get two units: buy an affordable luxury unit in Greenwich, CT (for half the price), and then take the train into the City. Rent a tiny, safe, comfortable unit in NYC (with the other half), if you want to stay there overnight a couple of times a week. You'll likely do better with your taxes 'cause you’ll own one of the units (check with your professional tax preparer).

    Living in NYC is indeed living the dream but people underestimate the fact that they can get way better value NOT too far from Manhattan next to the Metro North stations along the Hudson or Harlem lines. I pay 3.6k/mth for a 1200sqf two bedroom apartment in an area that is just 35 min Metro North train ride away from Grand Central terminal. Also, with extra $180/mth I get a self-park garage for my car - which you won't get in Manhattan.
