I used to be strongly opposed to the NIV due to its gender language (2011 edition). I only used the ESV for preaching. Then one day I was giving a sermon and I addressed the believers there as "brothers and sisters". I don't know if anyone noticed, but I paused for a second, realizing what I just did. I was speaking English that came natural to me! The light bulb went on. This is why the NIV updated the gender language; we actually talk that way and they want to translate into English we actually use. I now own and love a copy of the NIV and would not hesitate to give it to new believers, people that aren't believers yet, and especially to Christians who use word for word translations and are probably misunderstanding something on every page (like I used to). Formal and functional translations are not mutually exclusive, they're mutually dependent; especially for Christians who don't know the original languages. But for the sake of all that is holy, we need to stop slandering the CBT (NIV translators), their motives, and their competency. They are top rate scholars and are being faithful to the translation philosophy of the NIV. If I don't stop ranting now, I never will. 🙂

It is a convention in Greek and Hebrew that if there is just one man present, the whole group must be addressed as 'brothers'. Contemporary English just does not work the same way. If you translate mechanically, you get bad English. Of course, we often cannot know the makeup of the group being addressed.

Well said, the NIV is simply writing in today's English. After all, when the Bible was written it was written in the common Greek of that time so that everyone can understand it, the NIV is trying to do the same in English..

Well said. One thing that helped me with the NIV was knowing who some of the scholars were in that committee. Some of the great conservative theologians of our time worked on the NIV 2011.

Your bible quotes Jesus in a lie! BLASPHEMY.
In John 7:8 those bibles have Jesus telling his brothers I am not going to the feast. I am not going to the feast means I am not going to the feast. Jesus waits and then goes! Liar.
Jesus actually said I am not going up yet to the feast. No, not now, not yet. He waits and then goes. No problem.
God left us a standard. He ssid He preserved His word. Psalm12:6,7. KJB.
But not your bible, they want to leave it open for new information.
They original manuscripts were replaced by the Alexandrian manuscripts. The Codex B or Vaticanus from the Vatican basement and the Sianiticus.
These manuscripts do not agree with each other and the latter has about 30 changes per page.
Tares Among the Wheat Sequal video TH-cam.
Stop here and see what the Lord says about the RCC.
"Now the Spirt speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils,
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth." 1 Timothy 4:1-3.
Forbidding to marry is a doctrine of devils???
"These people drawer nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Matthew 18:8-9.
The RCC places their traditions equal to or greater than God's word. This is not acceptable to God.
Plus, your church accepts a Jesus that lies. They have had many years to correct it. How amazing they have not cared to do it.
Thri Jesus tells his brothers I am not going to the feast. Which means I am not going to the feast. Yet he goes. Liar.
      This is major BLASPHEMY.
Jesus actually said I am not going up yet to the feast. Not now, not yet. He waits and then goes. No problem. No lie.

The NIV is a good solid translation, excellent for reading. There is a reason it is so popular, it falls right in the middle of translation philosophy, easy to understand, accurate, and well researched. You should have several versions anyway, for study, and the Psalms have to be read KJV, so beautiful.

@@oscarlumberg8865Gail Riplinger? Pathological liar, and, KJV only heretic. Her so called "acrostic algebra" is nothing more than the spirit of divination or witchcraft. If you think you can assure anyone that the KJV is the "true word of God" you are deluded. The KJV translators knew their work was not perfect. What makes you and false teacher Gail Riplinger think you know better? KJV onlyism is a man made tradition with no scriptural support. One of Satan's most subtle deceptions. The gospel is about Christ and him crucified not some archaic imperfect uninspired translation called the KJV.. The NIV is far stronger on the deity of Christ and the Holy Spirit than the KJV. As a child, I would spend hours reading and trying to understand. When I came across the niv as an adult, I was shocked! I could finally read and understand! Why insist that someone read a Bible in a language that they don't understand? And what about people that don't even speak English? Should they have to learn English just so they can read the only "correct" version? The niv has been a huge blessing to me.

      Regarding salvation:
God has a way to approach Him that pleases Him. "The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart and saveth them that be of a contrite spirit." Psalm 34:18. KJB.
How can we know our deceptive wicked hearts are not deceiving us into feeling like we had that special moment when we got saved? Jeremiah 17:9.
There are witnesses, according to the Apostle John,
"And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. " 1 John 5:8.
Jesus said the same. "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." John 3:5.
[Calvinism says God alone decides who will come, Arminianism says your free will can save you, just ask Him into your heart.]
Jesus said that you can ask God to send the Holy Spirit. Luke 11:13. Ask!
"He will come and rebuke the world of sin, and righteousness and judgment." John 16:8.
When He comes He will bring your sins gently to mind. As he does, confess them to Jesus. Warning: this is painful because pride hates it!.
When you awake to your desperate need for a Saviour, to your inability to change your nature (Jeremiah 17:9), the rebelliousness and enmity your sins have thrust at God, and the ingratitude and self love you have shown, CRY OUT to Jesus to save you. He came to save sinner, not the self righteous who do not 'see' their need. Thank Him.
Then call upon the name of the Lord. How? As Peter told the Jews who were pricked in the heart. Acts 2:38. And as Paul did, Acts 22:16.
Meditate on Romans 6:3-11, Colossians 2:6-15. [King James Bible on line.]
He has treasures of truth about Himself, His perfect character, deep, deep love; He is gracious, merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. And learn of His severity.
His word is eternal, it judges the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12. It prepares you for all good works that God has set aside for you to do. 2 Timothy 3:16.
The Holy Ghost will use the eternal word to lead you into all truth. 1 John 2:27.
Oh, how deeply He loves! He paid it all, yet we share in His inheritance in heaven.

As someone who's using English as second language,I appreciating NIV approach in using basic/intermediate English translation which made the reading feels smooth and easy to understand. So far, besides NIV, I have read NKJV,and I must say the former is more easier to read and understand than the latter. The only gripe I have on NIV is its 'political correctness' and neutrality. For example,I don't like the usage of 'he' when referring to God,which in my opinion should be spelled 'He'. However, I'm looking forward to read other versions of Bible out there. I don't believe in KJV-only cult. For me, it's silly to only read a version of Bible. Read whatever version of Bible which make you feel comfortable to read. 😊

They disagree with each other and the latter has 30 changes per page. I'd that the God you want to learn from?

      Also: Deadly Translation NKJV.
Excellent info on the extent of the translation butchery of God's word. Book: Look What's Missing by David Daniels Chick.com.
They have quoted Jesus in a lie, they have no shame.
Whst ffg oes God say about that church?
Their Jesus tells his brothers I am not going to the feast. Which means I am not going to the feast. Yet he goes. Liar.
      This is major BLASPHEMY.

None of the verses you cited change the Gospel message, and are generally left out because there are either more reliable or earlier copies of the texts which were not available at the time of the KJV translation. These verses do not change the message of salvation (well...one might actually be re-introducing the law...you better forgive or no forgiveness for you!), or of the position of Jesus in bringing salvation to the lost.
1 John 5:7 is a notorious example of the KJV ADDING to the text what simply is NOT in the Greek. I do not doubt the sincerity of the people who embellished the KJV with this doctrinal truth, however they are just as "guilty" of paraphrasing as anyone else who attempts to insert their doctrinal stance into the word of God.
I suggest meditating on Gal 5:18-21, paying careful attention to those who sow discord and confusion among the brethren. It is a work of the FLESH. Sadly most of the KJV only advocates like to condemn Christians to hell for not reading the KJV, but in doing so become guilty of looking to scripture for salvation, and not the one it points to. (John 5:39)

In chapter 3 of genesis he said "Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" causing Eve to doubt what God had told her about not eating the forbidden fruit.
