Thank you for this gracious comparison. I read the NIV prior to my baptism at 16, at which point I switched to the NKJV. After that Bible fell apart after 10 years, I looked at other translations and settled upon the NASB95. I have been reading that ever since as my main Bible. Yet, I do compare my NAS95 with the KJV, NKJV, ESV and the RSV.
I’m reading the latest NIV study Bible and the 2011 version emasculated the translation: “Follow me, and I will make you a fisher of people.” If they ever reprinted the 1984 version in a premier goatskin edition, I would purchase it. My old bonded broken copy will do for now . Thanks!
Luckily, I have an '84 NIV print. I like the way it reads a lot. I don't like the gender inclusivity in the 2011. "Fisher of people" sounds so lame. As far as I know, all older NIVs are out of print. :(
As a long time born again believer ....age 69.... I was raised using KJV born again at young age....went to churches that used KJV and NASB and LSB. I have recently started reading and studying from the 2011 NIV and love the translation. Another to keep our eye is the CSB.
I too prefer the 1984 translation. The majority of the major Bible characters are men therefore I find it appropriate to keep the gender wording as is. God bless you.

I wish they would still publish the 1984 version for those who want to read it. The NASB still publishes their past editions.

Get yours rebound… so many excellent rebinders out there!
I go to a bilingual English/Afrikaans speaking church. They use the NIV, however I tend to use the CSB when I'm there, and NKJV at home.
