I grew some basil under my tomato plants last year and that basil grew all year without flowering! I was able to get about four or five cuts from it, vs the stuff I planted on my patio was mostly one and done. I'm going to continue to plant more and more basil under my plants that provide shade because the basil doesn't mind it at all. Same goes for cilantro!

let some basil flower near your other garden plants as they bring in the pollinators. save the seeds for sprouts in winter salads and noodle/starch/potato dishes. keep up the good info. love your content.

@@geekygreenhousein what i experienced with a basil garden, the spacing of 2 plants per square foot yielded no more than ~1oz but by planting 6 plants could reach 2.5oz in around 2-3 weeks before harvesting depending on the weather (cloudiness, heat, rain) and will be experimenting with 7-12 plants per square foot to see which is the best yield so definitely could be something for you to try to get the most of your space. 1.7” of spacing per plant, and when small and just seeded could crowd a bunch a spot and keep harvesting and transplanting out of the container or spot as they mature until leaving 7, 10 or 12 plants in a square foot or final spacing of 1.7” inches apart as space use. Also putting a purslane, pepper (8” tall small plant), garlic chives, any less than 8” inches from a basil plant drastically cut yields per plant as low as 0.17oz per plant from previously being to 1oz in my partial direct sun conditions (a biweekly harvest) which would be like every 1,000$ worth of basil turned into $170, a $830 loss for that “little mistake” is something I observed recently and could send you the experimental photos.

For a moment I thought you said, "Hello and welcome to kinky greenhouse" which would be a whole different show

Super timely video. I just cut back my kratky basil and was thinking, I was wondering if it would propagate.

Nice video and good reminder that I should grow some herbs indoors now to have before outdoor planting season. Got any good recipes using Thai basil and Thai hot peppers?

One of our go-to recipes, and Thai basil wouldn’t hurt this meal either 🤤 peppergeek.com/spicy-lemongrass-chicken-stir-fry/

Great information! Gardening in south Florida, trying to keep away the blotch leaf miners from my basil, any ideas? I am working on companion plants like Alyssum, etc., but wondering if you know of anything in particular. Thanks!

My basil plants do not have any nodes. They only have a continuous pair of leaves along the stem.
