He's without a doubt one of the best teachers I have had in my life. It's so rare to find an amazing guitar player who can also pass along his knowledge, and. Even rarer to see someone like that actually enjoy to pass the knowledge along... Mr. Gilbert you rock!
A superior instructor/player but also a very real person. I was @ GIT 92-93 and it was Hendrix' 50th 10/27 92.. in homage Dan physically cried. This may sound extreme but for the class it was genuinely moving, and as a huge JH fan myself I have to say it was a moment I'll never forget. 25 of us with guitars in our hands, tears in our eyes... and like a scene from Dead Poets society DG played Little Wing... This is a very cool lesson, a continuing thanks to You Mr. Gilbert.
Holy shit man I wish I experienced something like this at MI... The teacher's lost the motivation for the music.. I had Dan as a private lesson teacher and advanced musician ship 1 and 2.. The experience well.. Emotionless.. No feeling and seeing this comment and the video makes me wish him and the teachers would teach like this instead of being bored with the students.. I am still enrolled and take some classes but the love for music has certainly been lost at MI
I miss you Danny.... Bill Crane here... I came to GIT to play in your Fusion performance class.. I miss you. You'll remember me... I'm the unremarkable guy always trying to blow with my Yamaha SY77 comping... You're right. I wish I had learned melody... I'm playing a lot of piano right now... Classic rock... But I, in essence game to G.I.T because of you and Steve Travato... Tell him that. I'm gonna get back to my Fusion development. I wanted to salute you.. Superb phrasing! Love ya
Thanks Mr. Gilbert, I picked my guitar and started jamming on the chords you were using, even using a barred triad at the 7th and 9th fret with hammer on's and pull offs.
Very refreshing Dan. A very good and easy to understand lesson in something other than trying to play the fastest and most complecated scales possible. There are a million guitar players concentrating on trying to out do each other in the Jazz Rock Fusion game on TH-cam these days. They are all great, but there are several ways to play the guitar. Some ways will make you rich!
I was in class of '87 and at the reunion too :-) Was cool to see both the place and a lot of people again. (I know the school moved since you were there. I got six months on Hollywood and six on McCadden) Had dinner with Dan and two other fellow alumni the day after the Hard Rock get-together, had a really good time. He certainly motivated me as well as (probably) thousands of other players and apparently you as well :-) He is a great player and a great teacher too! All the best / Martin
@ArthlecMann Awesome! What year did you graduate? I just graduated last year, September 09, got to play with a latin pop band at the Wiltern, will never forget that ahaha. What are you up to out in the world now?
Looks like Einstein, sounds like Stern, but does the best job of describing, explaining and demonstrating his material of all these GIT guys. Great Stuff!
@ibanezbloke eyebrow raise (akin to that of Teal'c or Spock) I think this stuff is awesome... and learning all the inversions in the differant voiceings is cool but i don't play music for money... i play for me... if that builds me a fan base and lets me do the #1 thing in the world (perform on stage) so be it... if it means i get to sit in my room and just jam along with guitar pro ... so be it... i think its up to these younger guitarists to find what they 'should work on' themselves.
Maybe because I've been listening to 'Stolen Moments' original by Oliver Nelson that this sliding approach sounds very applicable? Got to love that title: th-cam.com/video/RbaGDDbpcQ4/w-d-xo.html

Awesome video! I like how detailed he is with which "fringers" to use

Well done! Excellent instruction with killer ideas that can translate into all kinds of playing. i wish every video on youtube was this useful.
one of my favorite teacher!! Dan
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years now. Made me want to pick up my axe and learn some new licks. I have not felt that way in a long time.
Awesome. Great lesson.
He was my personal instructor at M.I. and is a totally nice guy! Saw him less than four weeks ago... dunno what you're talking about...

What year did you go to MI? Were you at the reunion they had a couple of months ago? He was my instructor way back in 84. the reunion was awesome!
dan gilbert is a good teacher..I am one of his student
Great lesson! I'm looking for more creative things to do with my playing.
@deandimedof No, but maybe he was Paul's teacher when he was in MI. He said that for more than thousands times....
That guitar is beautiful.

I think this stuff is awesome... and learning all the inversions in the differant voiceings is cool
but i don't play music for money... i play for me...
if that builds me a fan base and lets me do the #1 thing in the world (perform on stage) so be it... if it means i get to sit in my room and just jam along with guitar pro ... so be it...
