How To Fix A GBC Pokemon Game That Won't Save (Re-done)

  • Here's how I fixed a Pokemon Silver game when it wouldn't save.
    In this video I used a 3.8mm GameBit to take out the screw and I replaced the battery with one I bought from Radio Shack. The battery is a CR2025 and you can get it at many stores for a few bucks. I taped it so it would stay in and closed it back up; Now it works.

      I just got Pokemon Silver from a Retro game shop and I had played Silver for like 5 hours on the last save. Then yesterday when I opened the game later to continue playing the save file had disappeared. So they sold me a game with dead battery. Also the shop claimed they had "tested" the game. It seems they didn't do more than open the game.

    If you're don't have the tool to open the gamepack you can use a pen. Just remove the ink first. (Make sure it's a plastic tipped pen.) take a lighter to gently melt the tip of your pen, then you press the still hot pen tip onto the screw, letting it cool will allow it to form to the screw. Then proceed to use the pen as your screwdriver.

    For those of you who do not own screwdrivers that small, I found that thumbtacks worked most effectively as a substitute. Be warned, it will scratch your game cartridge, and yourself if you aren't careful. I also found that tweezers worked when the screw was loose, and were handy for prying the metal flaps off of the battery. I even managed to substitute a 2032 battery for a 2025, as both batteries were the same size and voltage, differing only in thickness. The battery managed to fit in the cartridge just barely.

      Will Strantz if u beat the pokemon league every time u accomplish something, such as catch a new pokemon, i find that it saves for about a week if u turn the game off. If it does accidently freeze or u shut it off by mistake, turn it back on as fast as u can. Also do not battle at the trainer house in Viridian City because it will make your game crash. My game has been on for over 1200 hours now

    Awesome video man! Thanks! Question though: Would this work with older pokémon games? Or do they require a different kind of battery? Thanks in advance

  • @vistea1
    @vistea1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did everything in the video, and my crystal copy will work for a minute or two when I start it up, then it crashes. Is it because the battery wasn't held down well enough, or did I probably mess up the electronic board by scratching it?

    Hey I have two games and neither of them will save do you know if it could be something with the gameboy or are they both just faulty

    this is gonna be a really stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway so I don't waste my money. my battery came with those silver arms attached. can i break the ones already there holding the old battery and just lay the new one in, tape it down, seal it up and it should be fine?

    If by some off chance the arms come off? Then what? Get another cr2025 with arms on them?

    Hey! I have a question!
    If every game is not saving. Is that means it still from the games and not from the game boy? A little worried that its from the game boy itself but i understand that the memory is on the game?

    make sure the metal arms are firmly in contact with the battery. There could also be some other kind of damage to the cartridge, I'm not sure.

    Just used a cr2016 and it still works. Thanks for the vid man. I see everyone saying this video sucks for this but in the end it works. It just may not be the "right" way but it is a way.

    Thanks! I have my game apart and the battery out. The metal arms are still intact too. I've figured out that in a set of mini screwdrivers that the smallest flat head is the best to get under the arms and pry them off without breaking them. Just need to by the battery now.

    I accidentally broke the bottom bracket off, is there any safe way (glue or securing it with electric tape, etc.) to put it back on without soldering?

    • @cod2050
      @cod2050 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No only soldering will fix it, it's an electrical joint therefore, you need to keep a circuit going, electrical tape is for stopping the flow.

    Will replacing the battery work for a GBC game that whenever you save correctly, take the cartridge out, and put it back in, the saved file is always corrupted? No matter how many times you resave the game file?

    After putting in the new battery, it still wouldn't save. I looked at the old battery and it was a CR1616, would that be the reason for it not to work? Do I need to buy a 1616 instead of a CR2025

    • @ChurroWarrior

    100% worked for me for my poke-mon silver copy I used a CR2032T 3v maxwell battery from my countculater sorry my spelling yeah it's slightly bigger than the CR2025T 3v battery the cartridge holds it in place while the screw secures it from moving so yeah thanks man

    does putting in the new battery mess up how fast everything is?
    the music is way to fast than it should be

  • @wiisixtyfour
    @wiisixtyfour  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It should work for older Pokémon Games as well as some other GB/GBC games which use batteries, however I'm not sure if it is the exact same battery.
