I'm so glad that you liked it, Alexa. All of the marionettes were based on real actors at the time, Troy Tempest was James Garner, Atlanta was Lois Maxwell (best known for playing Miss Moneypenny in the original 'Bond' films) she also voiced the character, Marina was Brigitte Bardot, and so on.
@@greedycapitalist8590 Yes, Gerry Anderson was asked by the modeller what sort of look he wanted for Troy Tempest, Gerry said something similar to James Garner as he'd seen him in the TV series 'Maverick' and thought that a look like his might work well, the modeller copied his face exactly. 😄
It is crazy how much emotion the characters can convey even though half the time their normal smiley faces are used for scenes when they're angry/scared/concerned. The voice acting plays a big role, but then Marina is all puppet-work! Super ambitious for them to go that route - but it works! Really looking forward to future reactions. There's so much in these shows I take for granted, so it's nice to have all the great model-work/effects/plot-points/costumes/characters/set-design praised by fresh eyes.
Had to go back and rewatch your episode 1 reaction before checking this out!! It really is a distillation of all the other stuff up until now. Can't wait to see your Marina cosplay🥰😄
Ahhh, that's my Sunday matinee TV viewing as a kid, right there! Dad and I would go over to his parents and help out, before frantically driving back across town, in time to watch Stingray/Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet. Dad would insist that it was for my benefit, but he would watch any Gerry Anderson show just as avidly as me..... 😂😂
Atlanta is played by lois maxwell who played the original miss moneypenny in the 1st 16 james bond films. Also the puppets sculpt is based on her face. Troy was based on rockford files james garner.
All of the Anderson Studio productions had great model work which progressively got better from show to show as time went on. Have fun with Stingray and maybe someday you might reconsider doing Thunderbirds.
Marina sits at the back because Stingray is unlikely to reverse into any sea mines or monsters. Also, that's where the fridge is that's stocked with fish fingers and calamari.
It was made in the early 60s, so of course shes at the back , being a mere women. I'm sure she'd have been screaming a lot too like all women did in scifi horror fillms etc too back then, if she'd had a voice lol
Hi Alexa, I know you tried the original marionette version of "Thunderbirds" and found the extended run lengths to be a bit of a drag; but you still might like to give the more recent (2016 - 2020) "Thunderbirds Are Go" version a try, when you're in the market for a new Anderson-based series. The episodes are shorter at 22 minutes, and it uses an interesting hybrid production technique of CGI characters and vehicles with (as far as possible) practical miniature sets. It was all made as something of a childhood dream by Richard Taylor, the founder of Weta Workshop (the lead prop/ special effects house in New Zealand for "The Lord of the Rings"), who was a lifelong "Thunderbirds" fan. For my money, like the "New Captain Scarlet", they're simultaneously faithful to the spirit of the original while acknowledging the ways the world has changed in the meantime.
@@alexachipman James Garner was famous for playing Brett Maverick in the "Maverick" TV series, and later Jim Rockford in "The Rockford Files". Thinking about it, he looked a bit like Troy Tempest.
I generally enjoyed Stingray Captain Scarlet and Thunderbird's when I was a child, but I tried rewatching them recently and I found the acting to be a bit wooden.

I've thought for years that Tempest reminded me of Jim Rockford. Now I know why!
You will see me talk more about this later. It took a few episodes for me to recognize Lois’ voice!
@@alexachipman Oh, I'll look out for that, thank you for letting me know.

Not bad for a 60 year old tv series. Way ahead of its time thanks Gerry Anderson another classic. Glad you like the show Alexa.☺

When I was at school, there was a very shy girl who didn't talk much. She always reminded me of Marina.
Flying bikes are an Anderson staple. Atlanta is Miss Moneypenny from the Bond movies
I find that out later, you will see it in a future reaction.

One of my all time favorite shows along with Fireball XL5

Still in love with marina after more than 50 years

I will be talking about her later - it took an embarrassingly large number of episodes for me to recognize her voice 😂
Useless trivia: Phones voice actor Robert Easton was the Klingon judge in "Star Trek VI"
The exploding volcano island. Now what other show do we get to see that again? :)

Talk to TH-cam about that - they are the ones blocking Thunderbirds reactions.
Ah, it's finally happening ^^ Now I must resist the urge to rewatch the show again for myself.

"Hidden Island base." Boy, do we gave a show to recommend you...🤣

I will be covering all Anderson shows :) if TH-cam lets me without blocking them. That is why I stopped Thunderbirds.
@andrewhide5140 The remake doesn't get enough love. The model work alone deserves more recognition, but the series as a whole is great too.
@@alexachipman Oh, I beg your pardon! Somehow I'd gained the impression you weren't as keen on it. Thank you for correcting my mistake!
I picture Brigitte Bardot as Marina
Naturally, thats who the puppet was based on
Troy Tempest was based on JAMES GARNER
No idea who that is, sorry!

You'll send us to Aquatraz for spoilers, but we'll be off the hook if I can win a staring contest with that fish - that's the rule, right?
That’s right!
I generally enjoyed Stingray Captain Scarlet and Thunderbird's when I was a child, but I tried rewatching them recently and I found the acting to be a bit wooden.
Which is funny cause these puppets weren't made of wood. They were made of fibre glass and plastic for the most part, with little to no wood involved
@@TaylorZanderFrancis So for the actor's to achieve wooden was something of a acting tour de force.
Marina is sitting at the back because this was the 1960s (spoiler alert), and women know their place, then.
I think I may be in trouble now!😮
