The only change that I would suggest is adding the tone strip as an addition to the original image-as opposed to taking up part of the images bottom edge.

There are some differences with the colors. Although I prefer using curves in Photoshop because it's less laggy, Photoshop was used in this video because this is a Photoshop technique. Here's the video tutorial for Lightroom: th-cam.com/video/yAoi1twUSvs/w-d-xo.html
It'll work. The gradient will look a bit weird. Also, CMYK curves has a reversed chart (bottom-left is whites and top-right is blacks). But you will still be able to drag the tones up/down and get the colors you want.
