First Phosphate announces completion of Pilot Production of Battery-Grade Purified Phosphoric Acid

First Phosphate Corp CEO John Passalacqua joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce a significant milestone in the company's efforts to enter the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery industry. First Phosphate has successfully completed its pilot project aimed at transforming its high-purity phosphate concentrate into battery-grade purified phosphoric acid.
Passalacqua explained that Prayon Technologies SA has played a crucial role in this success by successfully converting First Phosphate's phosphate concentrate into high-quality merchant-grade phosphoric acid. Following this, Prayon completed the second stage of the process to transform the merchant-grade phosphoric acid into purified phosphoric acid (PPA) in accordance with Prayon's food-grade/battery-grade specifications. Samples of PPA are now available upon selected client request and at a nominal fee.
With this achievement, First Phosphate can now engage its partners to initiate the pilot process of producing LFP cathode active material and LFP battery cells using a fully North American source of battery-grade PPA. This development marks a significant step forward for First Phosphate as it positions itself as a key player in the LFP battery industry, offering a domestic and reliable source of critical materials for battery manufacturing.
Passalacqua expressed optimism about the future prospects of First Phosphate and its role in supporting the growing demand for LFP batteries, particularly in North America.
