Visiting Creek Street, Alaska's historic red-light district (My first day in Ketchikan, Alaska) 🇺🇸

  • In this video, I travel north to the historic city of Ketchikan, Alaska - once a remote outpost full of lawlessness, brothels, and gold rush fever, centered around the seedy red light district of Creek Street. This was my second visit to the state's fourth largest and southernmost city, just a stone's throw across the US-Canadian border north of Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
On my first day in this historic town, I check into my century-old hotel then enjoy a leisurely walk through the city's photogenic Old Town, including a visit to the infamous Creek Street, the wooden boardwalks of which were once home to one of the most active and notorious red light districts in the United States of America (in operation through part of the 20th century!). I also have a great conversation with a local to learn more about living in Ketchikan from a local's perspective. There is a TON of history in Ketchikan (both positive and negative!) and I was very impressed with my first day in this beautiful city, surrounded on all sides by verdant forests and the stunning sea. I look forward to sharing more amazing experiences from "Alaska's First City" in the videos to follow!

Definitely an easy trip from anywhere in Canada - just a 90 minute flight from Seattle

Great vid. I noticed the sign at the airport. The sign said "Salmon capital of the world." I thought Campbell River was the Salmon Capital of the world

I'm not sure how official these statistics actually are! But definitely a ton of salmon in Ketchikan, regardless

Probably a good plan to keep things a bit more sustainable. It’s madness there on a busy day.
