Try this 1.8-km out-and-back trail near Field, British Columbia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 34 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, snowshoeing, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.
Takakkaw Falls is one of the most powerful and amazing waterfalls in British Columbia and is very famous in Yoho National Park. It's even known for being the second-tallest waterfall in Canada. You will discover this iconic area by following a winding and narrow paved road that leads from the Trans Canada Highway cutting through the park to the namesake waterfall which is located at the very end of the road. The drive is incredibly scenic as the road passes through beautiful lush forests with mountains all around and openings in the trees providing amazing views of the landscape. The parking lot is small and mostly full all year unless arriving early in the morning for sunrise.
From the parking lot, this trail is a short and well-trafficked paved path that crosses a bridge over a rushing river and winds through the trees with great views of the falls along the way before arriving at the base of Takakkaw Falls. The waterfalls get louder and louder as you get closer and they are so powerful that the mist is usually felt long before reaching the base. The mountainous scenery surrounding the waterfall is gorgeous and there are lots of places along the pathway to take photos of the views and the waterfall. The water plummets at high speeds off the edge of a tall vertical cliff and into the river below.
The sound of the falls is like thunder and it is incredible to experience and admire the waterfall while being so close to and literally right in front of this breathtaking natural beauty. There are lots of large boulders off the main trail on a slope beside the falls that you could climb to get even closer. This is a favourite spot for people to enjoy either sunrise or sunset, since it is the best for seeing the glow on the mountains, forest, and even the rainbows that are magnificent at dawn and dusk.
Accessibility: It is unclear if there are any designated accessible spaces in the parking lot off of Yoho Valley Road at the west end of the trail. The trail surface is paved concrete (with wooden bridges with railings) and typically at least 1.5 meters wide.
The estimated grade is mostly gentle (5% or less) except for steep sections (8 -12%) such as near the bridge at about 0.07, 0.28, and 0.55 kilometers when going east. Hikers using wheelchair/mobility equipment or strollers may need assistance in the steeper sections or to avoid them for safety. Visitors have reported that this trail can be narrow and rocky in places, which can be difficult for mobility equipment. There are benches along the route for resting.
Romans 1:20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
