      Hope that helps. IMHO, best way to go is to get the ZSX with Pico board but if you already have a 350 ~ 500W ATX PSU not being used ... maybe get a cheaper one?

    • @cdc1138

      @Avery Hector -- took me a while to understand I was NOT going to blow my gear by doing this but, as @Lorenzo said below, no need for an adapter.
      Start slave independently.
      Start master.
      Turn on mobo if needed.
      Only situation where an adapter is a must is for remote reset / on-off etc. In this case, there's another useful gizmo at Parallel Miner for that.
      Too bad I don't live in the US and shipping is insane. :o*(((

    Just got started in mining this month and started out with 2 1200 watt platinum server power supplies. One of the power supplies is running the ZSX 16 PCIE port with 24-pin ATX breakout board. • @RedFoxCrypto
      @RedFoxCrypto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Max! Keep an eye out for the gauge of the wires used to make the cable. This is usually where costs are cut. Any good cable will say the gauge on it. You'll want something that says 18 AWG or lower. 18 AWG and 16 AWG are typical (the lower the number AWG the better for cables).
      After that it's the quality of the pins and the connector itself. There isn't much visual to look for here that I'm aware of.

    I literally just bought 4 kits of these the other day! One thing you didn't mention was the c13/nema plugs that run from the psu to the wall. I think most people only have 1 free one lying around if they even have one at all. I bought a bunch of network cables and power cables from monoprice and i found it is really hard to beat their pricing. obviously the cables are not the best quality ever, but i got a 6 pack of power cables for like 10 dollars, and their ethernet cables are really competitive too. My least favorite part about these server psus is that most frames are not built with them in mind, so you often just have to zip tie them down. as well, the breakout boards have exposed 12v pins coming right out of that giant plug. just a thing to think about. (no dropping screws in your mining rig lol)

    • @RedFoxCrypto

    • @BraveWW
      @BraveWW 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidanthony1816 Yeah, I don't think there's much room for concern about the pins getting hot unless they are shorted out somehow. many people run these things with the pins exposed with no issue. most of the time you'd know as soon as you dropped something on the rig. to be fair, many of the SMDs and other motherboard components have exposed components that shouldn't be shorted as well. mining rigs are open air, but they have the same delicacy as any computer. I just never set anything like screwdrivers on my rig at all, and touch the frame to discharge static before I work on it to be safe

    Quick question - I see only 6 pins from the board, so the cables are 6pins to 8pins? How many watts can each line on the board delivers then? Coz I remember from your risers video, 6 pins on the card draws 75W, and the 8 pins on the card draws 150W. So if the 8 pin end starts to draw 150W on each line... will there be a problem?

    • @RedFoxCrypto
      @RedFoxCrypto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dude! They are 6 pins to 8 pins that have 3 pins that go back to the 12v rail on the PSU. So, you can think of them as 8-pin power connectors. By electrical standards that means each cable could do up to 288w, but I wouldn't make that a goal to hit.

    What I would like is a small ATX PSU for each board and then big server PSU's powering cards across multiple rigs. But the startup sequence seems to matter. Which suggests one should rather use one server PSU per rig, and use the X11 breakout board which syncs it's power-on with the ATX supply's power-on.

Essentially I used a regular ATX power supply to connect to the mobo and power all it's components. Separately I use the Server PSU to power all the GPUs and Risers. You just have to make sure the server PSU is running (which will power up all your cards) before powering on the motherboard itself.
      Let me know any other questions I can answer for you!

    What do you have connected to the ATX power supply and what to the server PSU? I ask because I am struggling with a rig using an ATX PSU and a Bitmain PSU. I cannot get it to boot with the cards powered by the Bitmain, which I switch on first. If I power everything from the ATX PSU it works fine. How are you timing the starting up of the server PSU vs. the starting up of the ATX board?

  • @Everydaymoves
    @Everydaymoves 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quick question, if you're mining like Ethereum on like 2miners pool. How does the pay work? Do you only get paid in the actual coins you get in the month? How can you calculate what you will be paid monthly besides just the ethe that you mine. Is there another payment that comes with mining and from who? How can that be checked?

    • @RedFoxCrypto
      @RedFoxCrypto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I follow 100%. You'll get paid in the coin that you mine. The frequency in which you get paid depends on the minimum payout threshold set on the pool. Some pools have a static payout that you cant change and others let you configure it.
      For example, I use ethermine and set it to pay me when my balance hits .2 Ethereum.
      To calculate what you will be paid monthly in USD for example, you can use websites like whattomine.com to get an idea. Some pools provide this and some don't.

Noticed that as soon as I start my 3080Ti using about 220W on ergo (4 connectors - 1 for riser and 3 for gpu) i can hear ticking sound but there is no ticking sound when I run 4x 1660's running eth on about 265W but that's 1 riser and 1 GPU connector per gpu. Plenty of miners like using an atx psu as the main power for the motherboard to retain the normal functions of the power switch, sleep/hibernate modes, and keeping the bios memory without relying solely on the battery. Server PSUs are wonderful at delivery and price per watt but are not designed to give all of the creature comforts found on a gaming rig turned casual miner. They are very good for powering everything else on the system if you can tell them when to work and when to sleep.

    Is there anything specific that we have to take care of using 2 separate PSU on a single rig? Read so many stories abt using multiple PSU on the same rig and cause fires, especially when they have different grounds. I'm wondering what are the parts that should connect to the server PSU (GPU + their risers) and the rest (MB + 1 or 2 GPU + risers) to the ATX PSU?

    • @RedFoxCrypto
      @RedFoxCrypto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never had an issue personally. You don't have to connect the 2 PSUs together as long as you power up the server PSU first. You can use a breakout board like mine in the video with the molex connection. This allows the ATX PSU to power up the server PSU on system start.

I then added an ATX PSU for the Mobo, put the 5th card back on and it fried the card. Put another new 5th card on but powered it with the ATX PSU and its running just fine.
