Hey Shree, the idea for "back to the Future" while Movie co-writer Bob Gale was looking through his father’s old yearbook. He began to wonder if he would have been friends with his dad had they known each other as kids back then. This sparked the idea of time traveling to the past and meeting your parents, and thus the adventure begins.
There’s a fun character detail that they never make explicit, but they go out of their way to show you, and once you see it you can’t unsee it: George is left-handed, and had been forced to operate as if he were right-handed. For a lot of Western history, all the way up to the 1970s, there were pockets of culture who thought that being left-handed was a sign of evil, and many children who showed signs of being left-handed were “corrected” early in life, and forced to learn to do everything right-handed. George spends most of the movie being awkward and having no confidence. He feels like he doesn’t do anything right, in part because he’s always giving into pressure to fight his left-handedness. When we see him writing right-handed, he almost looks like he doesn’t know how to hold the pen properly. So when he squares up and confronts Biff, he tries throwing a punch with his right hand, which is woefully inadequate. It isn’t until he gets so angry that he balls up his LEFT hand into a fist that things finally start to go right for him. That’s why he looks at his LEFT hand the way he does after delivering the punch. He’s not just saying “oh wow, I actually did that”, he’s also saying “oh yeah, I’m supposed to be using my left hand for stuff”. Up until this point, he was likely intimidated and cowed by his parents or whoever his guardians are, whoever it was that forced him to operate as a righty. Part of his newfound confidence will be confronting said guardians and insisting that he’s going to be himself from now on, because being the lefty that he was born to be is exactly what got him his confidence and his dream girl. This is why the incarnation of 80s George at the end is so much more confident than original 80s George, he stopped trying to live up to the expectations of others and started living for himself. And, yes, his friendship with “Calvin” is partly responsible for this newfound confidence, but he also deserves a lot of the credit himself, in part because “Calvin” was locked in a car’s trunk when George flattened Biff.
Are you SERIOUS? I never noticed that about George, I'm going to have to look for that next time. Can back you up on the kids being forced to do everything right handed when they were left handed. My mom was born in '35 (the character of George McFly was born in '37...? '38? I forget, I'll have to consult BTTF2 to be sure) and she was made to switch from left to right in school.

All this despite the fact that the movie was rejected over 40 times by various movie studios in Hollywood including multiple rejections by Universal, the same studio to make the film.

Part 2 ends on a pretty momentous cliff-hanger though, so I would say it's a good idea, when she watches part 2, to have part 3 all set to go. Part 3 wraps things up pretty nicely, but part 2 yanks the ground out from under you.

This is the only movie I can't watch without immediately watching the other two right after. Forget Lord of the Rings, this is real best trilogy. I hear this movie is taught in film school as an example of writing. No set up goes without a pay-off. Pretty much every tiny thing characters passively mention comes back later. It is exposition in a way, but definitely not filler. 7:27 Joke being that's Huey Lewis of Huey Lewis and the News, the band that made the song Marty is playing here. 10:58 Hahaha. Doc Brown goes on trips without weed. He gets high on science. 16:17 In the movie, he is, but that's the problem with time travel in fiction in general. For this to work you have to travel in space too, cause there's this little tiny fact that Earth rotates around itself and around the sun. Chances of you landing on Earth alone are astronomical and you can forget about the same spot. 25:04 Yeah. Think in the very opening there's newspaper clippings on a wall saying how Doc sold his house or something and then he himself says it took his family fortune to build the time machine. 25:59 No, this movie makes it clear this first time travel Marty ever did cause how everything changes later. There's no loop of him always going back.
Doc's family house burned down. Whether Doc did it deliberately or accidentally, the insurance money financed his time experiments. That's why he's living in and experimenting out of his garage.
Seriously? The 2nd and 3rd Back To The Future films don't come close to this first one, which is a great stand alone film. You can't say that about LOTR
The peanut brittle was a reference to a deleted scene, one of George's neighbours had a kid who was selling peanut brittle for a school fundraiser, and he cajoled George into buying a whole case so the kid would only have to make one stop. They left the scene out because the introduction to Biff did more than enough to establish how weak-willed original 80s George was, so the peanut brittle ended up being a random weird detail instead of a callback to plot.
And it was immediately after Marty told him he needs to stand up for himself and not be such a pushover,it’s great how as the two are walking away you hear the dad say “see,I told you we’d only need to go to one house”
You asked when he went back to 1955 if he was on the same plot of land as a parking lot which was twin pines Mall but if you see when the farmers shooting at him he runs over one of the pine trees so it's no longer twin pines when he returns

When I was in high school, I took JROTC, which meant we stood for weekly uniform inspections. That meant, every week, shining our shoes, shining the buckles of our belts, and ironing our shirts. The last of these is surprisingly time-consuming, and I passed the time by distracting myself with a different movie, every weekend, while I was ironing. "Make like a tree, and get outta here." Dimwit Biff gets it wrong. The expression is "make like a tree and leave." Get it? A tree has leaves. One theater in 1955 has Cattle Queen of Montana with Barbara Stanwyck and Ronald Reagan (anticipates Doc's Reagan joke) and by 1985 it's Orgy American Style (a real softcore movie from 1973 starring cult favorite Rene Bond). The other theater in 1955 has The Atomic Kid with another short comedic actor, Mickey Rooney (the film's topical title plus Rooney, the Michael J. Fox of his day, make this two jokes in one) and by 1985 the theater is a meeting hall for the Assembly of Christ. In both cases, as would happen in real life, the two mom and pop theaters have fallen on hard times trying to compete with multiplex theater chains.
New subscriber here. I remember seeing the first installment with a group of friends while I was on vacation back in the day. It's no wonder why this is considered the perfect movie. It has a little bit of everything. Comedy, drama, romance and suspense. I love time travel movies, and this one makes more sense than many others from a theatrical sense.
The Back to the Future Trilogy has been with me since I was a Child and i still enjoy watching it to this Day. I can tell you one Thing without giving too much away. If you liked the first Part, then you will love the other two Parts.

It's HG Welles vs Jack the Ripper. Fascinating viewing and interesting concept.

This man, Biff, had an open _beer_ container in the car when he was in the wreck. Why do you suppose _that_ was the case? Back then it wasn't as big a deal. Even in the 1990s in some parts of the country it was a non-issue. I was fueling at a gas station in Mississippi once in 1992. There was a police car at another pump. A guy pulls up to a third pump, gets out with an open beer in his hand, takes a long swig, sets the beer on the roof of the car, fuels, goes in, pays, comes out, grabs the beer off the roof, takes another healthy slug, gets in his car and drives off. So I go in, the cop is talking with the cashier. Being yankee, I asked in amazement about the guy with the beer. The cop says oh yeah that's not a thing down here, he's ok as long as he doesn't toss a glass bottle onto the street.
If someone already mentioned it, it's embarrassing (for me), otherwise just a fun fact i guess. "Why does the car get cold?" ... (I always wondered as a kid :P) but luckily my older brothers could explain it to me. Doc Brown: "I need the nuclear reaction for the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity i need". And that gets very very VERY hot... so the icing is a safety mechanism of the DeLorean. Never explained how it works in the movie ... bummer.
I remember watching this movie in the theaters. I had such a huge crush on Lea Thompson after watching this movie (which is probably why I went to see Howard the Duck.) Michael J. Fox was huge when this movie came out. He was on one of the most popular sitcoms of the era. Normally, TV shows took time off during the summer so the actors could work on other projects. But because of scheduling conflicts he had to work a full day on set on his TV show and film the movie at night. He only slept a couple of hours between gigs. I thought it was hilarious when you said Doc was vlogging when he was video taping himself for posterity. Still 18 years to go before TH-cam.
And I almost forgot. Half the movie was filmed with a different actor in the lead. Eric Stoltz originally played Marty but was recast because his performance was a little too serious. Michael J. Fox was always meant to be the lead, but wasn't available at the time. After the initial rushes, the producers and director decided to go with their original lead.
Weird thing I noticed about this movie.... "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai" (1984), also features a "Super Vehicle", a rocket & laser powered truck that can travel through dimensions. The device that makes "Dimension Travel" possible in that film.. is called the "Oscillation Overthruster".. a triangular flashy blinky thing that sits right behind the driver just like the "Flux Capacitor". So.. I always wondered who ripped off who... cause clearly both those scripts were floating around Hollywood around the same time and that's WAY too coincidental. Another example of that... "DREAMSCAPE" (1984) and A Nightmare on Elm St. (84) both feature a shapeshifting dream villain with finger knives. btw, Buckaroo Banzai also features Christopher Lloyd, though he's a considerably different character in that one.

Also, the 88 MPH in BTTF *may be* a BB logo reference.. since there are Banzai patches in the film that look exactly like an 88. This is the kind of shit nerds like me think about when were at work and would rather be doing anything else.
At the end of Back to the Future II, right after the "To be Concluded" sign, there is a trailer of the third movie that you may want to avoid watching, because it spoils too much stuff

It's not just a good story but also a very well crafted movie. The detail is amazingly coherent throughout which makes this a very rewatchable movie. In fact it needs a couple of watches just to fully appreciate it's minutiae..
Details you might have missed?... 1. Doc Brown primes the audience in the parking lot by mentioning farm land & breeding pine trees. Later when Marty appears in 1955, one of two pine saplings is destroyed. So at the end of the movie, 'Twin Pines Mall' is now 'Lone Pine Mall'. Perhaps the most obvious clue!. 2. Doc slips on the clock tower parapet, taking out a chunk. The missing chunk is visible as the helicopter appears over the building in 1985 (below the gargoyle), first hint that this is an alternate '85. 3. The down & out who says 'Crazy drink driver'...was the 1955 mayor. And of course, the famous time-travel paradox joke when Chuck Berry's cousin 'Marvin' gets him to listen to his own song, Johnny B Good which Marty is playing. This gag was even referenced by The Simpsons (I think its in the episode where Homer is being Kurt Cobain??).

Seeing this in a theater at 5 makes me feel like I witnessed Lincoln giving the Gettysburg Address or the final game of the first World Series. Ok maybe not but with how immortalized this movie has become it feels like witnessing history for those of us who were there. I’ve wondered for years of people from a later generation could relate to a story where the “present” is before the viewer may have been born but that doesn’t seem to be a problem. It’s an ironically timeless story......also because what we think of as modern culture kind of started in the 1980s
Remember Doc said he was going 30 years into the future and he came back with the Mr. Fusion attachment and the flying car, etc. 30 years in the future from 1985 was 2015.

Far more time has passed from today 2023 back to 1985 (38 years) than the amount of time Marty went back in time 1985 to 1955 (30 years). This movie is a time capsule.
She picks up on all the things that is instrumental to the storyline and questions why 🤣 Doc says I remember when old man Peabody owned this land and was fields as fas as the eye cam see….so yes it’s the same land Marty arrives at in 1955. Need to listen for the genius in this movie Great reaction

So many changes in the "new" future it's hard to keep up. The old "Twin Pines Mall" becomes the "Lone Pine Mall" because Marty killed one of the farmer's baby pine trees. The concrete ledge under the clock, not missing in the old future, is missing in the new future. The X Rated theater is now a church, etc etc.
WHATEVER YOU DO, when you watch part 2, STOP right at the end, because the trailer for part 3 is contained within the movie, sort of like a "next time, on" segment, since they shot the next two back to back. So unless you want to see scenes for the next part, make sure to stop it where it says "to be concluded". That said, love the reaction. This is one of the best trilogies, if not the best ever made. You're in for a treat. Originally, there wasn't supposed to be a sequel, and the ending was just meant as a joke. But due to popular demand, they pulled two spectacular follow-ups out of their figurative hats. That's the power of love!
I just watched your video on Predator and now this. Alan Silvestri composed the soundtracks for both movies and there are many parts between the two that are startlingly similar, and a few that are lifted verbatim. The movies are so different, but the music still works.

Great review, I was a young kid and saw this in the theatre when it came out , great memories for me , most people I knew who grew up in the 90s made fun of me for loving these 80s movies , it’s nice to see you watching it with an open mind and enjoying the story in spite of some of the dated mentality

Thomas F. Wilson always seemed a huge guy when I was a kid watching these movies, but he's actually an inch, inch and a half shorter than I am now. Life is funny like that.
What you were asking about from Terminator is a Predestination Paradox. The events of that movie are a stable time loop. Back to the Future doesn't work that way. Each instance of time travel in this series causes at least minor changes in the timeline. Don't wait to long to watch parts 2 and 3. This is one of the best trilogies Hollywood has ever made. Only the original Star Wars trilogy and Lord of the Rings trilogy surpass it.

There's actually subtle differences between '55 Doc and '85 Doc. -For '85 Doc, Christopher Lloyd wears make-up to make his skin paler and wrinklier, and his hair is white and unkempt. -For '55 He has no makeup and therefore has a younger looking face, and his hair is more blonde and well kempt.

This is considered a perfect movie, every set-up has it's payoff. It's used for screenwriting tuition. (Size is not relevant to martial arts, being big isn't an advantage, it's all about leverage - just saying :-) and they had helicopters in the 50s.)
It's also about reaction time and situational awareness as well as the mental fortitude to do whatever it takes to defend yourself or others. No matter the size of the opponent, a good kick to the knee or groin will almost always end a fight immediately. Fight dirty, stay alive.

Most people don't notice, but the mall at the beginning is called 'Twin Pines Mall', but it's called 'Lone Pine Mall' (since Marty ran over the other one). I love that little detail they included.
One of the judges in the high school ("You're too darn loud") is played by Huey Lewis. His band Huey Lewis and the News where he is the lead singer did the soundtrack for the movie.

Hey Shree, the idea for "back to the Future" while Movie co-writer Bob Gale was looking through his father’s old yearbook. He began to wonder if he would have been friends with his dad had they known each other as kids back then. This sparked the idea of time traveling to the past and meeting your parents, and thus the adventure begins.
Oh wow, creativity can spark at any moment 😇
I believe, George McFly laughs that way solely to bring joy to my life. 😂
There’s a fun character detail that they never make explicit, but they go out of their way to show you, and once you see it you can’t unsee it: George is left-handed, and had been forced to operate as if he were right-handed.
For a lot of Western history, all the way up to the 1970s, there were pockets of culture who thought that being left-handed was a sign of evil, and many children who showed signs of being left-handed were “corrected” early in life, and forced to learn to do everything right-handed.
George spends most of the movie being awkward and having no confidence. He feels like he doesn’t do anything right, in part because he’s always giving into pressure to fight his left-handedness. When we see him writing right-handed, he almost looks like he doesn’t know how to hold the pen properly.
So when he squares up and confronts Biff, he tries throwing a punch with his right hand, which is woefully inadequate. It isn’t until he gets so angry that he balls up his LEFT hand into a fist that things finally start to go right for him. That’s why he looks at his LEFT hand the way he does after delivering the punch. He’s not just saying “oh wow, I actually did that”, he’s also saying “oh yeah, I’m supposed to be using my left hand for stuff”. Up until this point, he was likely intimidated and cowed by his parents or whoever his guardians are, whoever it was that forced him to operate as a righty. Part of his newfound confidence will be confronting said guardians and insisting that he’s going to be himself from now on, because being the lefty that he was born to be is exactly what got him his confidence and his dream girl.
This is why the incarnation of 80s George at the end is so much more confident than original 80s George, he stopped trying to live up to the expectations of others and started living for himself. And, yes, his friendship with “Calvin” is partly responsible for this newfound confidence, but he also deserves a lot of the credit himself, in part because “Calvin” was locked in a car’s trunk when George flattened Biff.
Are you SERIOUS? I never noticed that about George, I'm going to have to look for that next time. Can back you up on the kids being forced to do everything right handed when they were left handed. My mom was born in '35 (the character of George McFly was born in '37...? '38? I forget, I'll have to consult BTTF2 to be sure) and she was made to switch from left to right in school.
Holy shit! I didn't even notice! I can also relate because my dad pressured me to become right-handed as well, made me practice long hours to write and do stuff the "right way", as he put it. He gave up soon after because I couldn't do it and he got bored lol
This is generally considered one of the one of the best block buster screenplays ever written and is usually taught in screenwriting classes as an example of a “perfect” script. All this despite the fact that the movie was rejected over 40 times by various movie studios in Hollywood including multiple rejections by Universal, the same studio to make the film.
I can see why, it's one of the tightest scripts I've ever seen executed on film.
It's hard to find someone who knows nothing about this movie. This was a treat. Now you need to watch Back to the Future 2 and 3. Looking forward to it,
Part 2 ends on a pretty momentous cliff-hanger though, so I would say it's a good idea, when she watches part 2, to have part 3 all set to go. Part 3 wraps things up pretty nicely, but part 2 yanks the ground out from under you.
We had to wait 6 months to see the conclusion but it was way easier than the almost 5 year wait for the second one

The problem with the remote control of the car is that DeLoreans used had a manual transmissions.

Of course it's entirely another matter to adapt or concoct such a thing onto a DeLorean, but from a theoretical standpoint, such an animal did exist.

This is the only movie I can't watch without immediately watching the other two right after. Forget Lord of the Rings, this is real best trilogy. I hear this movie is taught in film school as an example of writing. No set up goes without a pay-off. Pretty much every tiny thing characters passively mention comes back later. It is exposition in a way, but definitely not filler.

The peanut brittle was a reference to a deleted scene, one of George's neighbours had a kid who was selling peanut brittle for a school fundraiser, and he cajoled George into buying a whole case so the kid would only have to make one stop. They left the scene out because the introduction to Biff did more than enough to establish how weak-willed original 80s George was, so the peanut brittle ended up being a random weird detail instead of a callback to plot.
And it was immediately after Marty told him he needs to stand up for himself and not be such a pushover,it’s great how as the two are walking away you hear the dad say “see,I told you we’d only need to go to one house”
You asked when he went back to 1955 if he was on the same plot of land as a parking lot which was twin pines Mall but if you see when the farmers shooting at him he runs over one of the pine trees so it's no longer twin pines when he returns

in the anniversary disc, the director says that Reagan almost choked on laughter while watching a certain scene from the movie. Then he ordered it to be released again.
When I was in high school, I took JROTC, which meant we stood for weekly uniform inspections. That meant, every week, shining our shoes, shining the buckles of our belts, and ironing our shirts. The last of these is surprisingly time-consuming, and I passed the time by distracting myself with a different movie, every weekend, while I was ironing.
More often than not, the movie was from _this_ particular trilogy. These are _awesome_ movies to watch, and not just the _first_ time, _either._

The 1st time I saw this movie referenced was in Muppet Babies (80s version) since then I have also seen it referenced in Spin City , American Dad, Fairy Odd Parents, the Lego Movie 2 , My Little Pony, and Family Guy and many other things It also got its own cartoon series and video game.

"Make like a tree, and get outta here." Dimwit Biff gets it wrong. The expression is "make like a tree and leave." Get it? A tree has leaves. One theater in 1955 has Cattle Queen of Montana with Barbara Stanwyck and Ronald Reagan (anticipates Doc's Reagan joke) and by 1985 it's Orgy American Style (a real softcore movie from 1973 starring cult favorite Rene Bond). The other theater in 1955 has The Atomic Kid with another short comedic actor, Mickey Rooney (the film's topical title plus Rooney, the Michael J. Fox of his day, make this two jokes in one) and by 1985 the theater is a meeting hall for the Assembly of Christ. In both cases, as would happen in real life, the two mom and pop theaters have fallen on hard times trying to compete with multiplex theater chains.
New subscriber here. I remember seeing the first installment with a group of friends while I was on vacation back in the day. It's no wonder why this is considered the perfect movie. It has a little bit of everything. Comedy, drama, romance and suspense. I love time travel movies, and this one makes more sense than many others from a theatrical sense.

The Back to the Future Trilogy has been with me since I was a Child and i still enjoy watching it to this Day. I can tell you one Thing without giving too much away. If you liked the first Part, then you will love the other two Parts.

Love this movie. The complicated interactions with his young parents is hilarious. Another great time travel movie to add to your list is 1979's Time After Time with Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange), Mary Steenbergen and David Warner (The Omen, Titanic). It's HG Welles vs Jack the Ripper. Fascinating viewing and interesting concept.

Let's just establish a point this moment alludes to. This man, Biff, had an open _beer_ container in the car when he was in the wreck. Why do you suppose _that_ was the case? What are the circumstances under which one is driving with an open _beer_ container?
Back then it wasn't as big a deal. Even in the 1990s in some parts of the country it was a non-issue.
I was fueling at a gas station in Mississippi once in 1992. There was a police car at another pump. A guy pulls up to a third pump, gets out with an open beer in his hand, takes a long swig, sets the beer on the roof of the car, fuels, goes in, pays, comes out, grabs the beer off the roof, takes another healthy slug, gets in his car and drives off.
So I go in, the cop is talking with the cashier. Being yankee, I asked in amazement about the guy with the beer. The cop says oh yeah that's not a thing down here, he's ok as long as he doesn't toss a glass bottle onto the street.
If someone already mentioned it, it's embarrassing (for me), otherwise just a fun fact i guess.
"Why does the car get cold?" ... (I always wondered as a kid :P) but luckily my older brothers could explain it to me.

And that gets very very VERY hot... so the icing is a safety mechanism of the DeLorean. Never explained how it works in the movie ... bummer.

I remember watching this movie in the theaters. I had such a huge crush on Lea Thompson after watching this movie (which is probably why I went to see Howard the Duck.)
Michael J. Fox was huge when this movie came out. He was on one of the most popular sitcoms of the era. Normally, TV shows took time off during the summer so the actors could work on other projects. But because of scheduling conflicts he had to work a full day on set on his TV show and film the movie at night. He only slept a couple of hours between gigs.
I thought it was hilarious when you said Doc was vlogging when he was video taping himself for posterity. Still 18 years to go before TH-cam.
And I almost forgot. Half the movie was filmed with a different actor in the lead. Eric Stoltz originally played Marty but was recast because his performance was a little too serious. Michael J. Fox was always meant to be the lead, but wasn't available at the time. After the initial rushes, the producers and director decided to go with their original lead.
Weird thing I noticed about this movie.... "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai" (1984), also features a "Super Vehicle", a rocket & laser powered truck that can travel through dimensions. The device that makes "Dimension Travel" possible in that film.. is called the "Oscillation Overthruster".. a triangular flashy blinky thing that sits right behind the driver just like the "Flux Capacitor". So.. I always wondered who ripped off who... cause clearly both those scripts were floating around Hollywood around the same time and that's WAY too coincidental. Another example of that... "DREAMSCAPE" (1984) and A Nightmare on Elm St. (84) both feature a shapeshifting dream villain with finger knives. btw, Buckaroo Banzai also features Christopher Lloyd, though he's a considerably different character in that one.

Also, the 88 MPH in BTTF *may be* a BB logo reference.. since there are Banzai patches in the film that look exactly like an 88. This is the kind of shit nerds like me think about when were at work and would rather be doing anything else.
As a fellow nerd I'll be researching this stuff to get to the bottom of it because I have nothing else to do :P
At the end of Back to the Future II, right after the "To be Concluded" sign, there is a trailer of the third movie that you may want to avoid watching, because it spoils too much stuff

It's not just a good story but also a very well crafted movie. The detail is amazingly coherent throughout which makes this a very rewatchable movie. In fact it needs a couple of watches just to fully appreciate it's minutiae..

Details you might have missed?...
1. Doc Brown primes the audience in the parking lot by mentioning farm land & breeding pine trees. Later when Marty appears in 1955, one of two pine saplings is destroyed. So at the end of the movie, 'Twin Pines Mall' is now 'Lone Pine Mall'. Perhaps the most obvious clue!.
2. Doc slips on the clock tower parapet, taking out a chunk. The missing chunk is visible as the helicopter appears over the building in 1985 (below the gargoyle), first hint that this is an alternate '85.
3. The down & out who says 'Crazy drink driver'...was the 1955 mayor.
And of course, the famous time-travel paradox joke when Chuck Berry's cousin 'Marvin' gets him to listen to his own song, Johnny B Good which Marty is playing. This gag was even referenced by The Simpsons (I think its in the episode where Homer is being Kurt Cobain??).

Seeing this in a theater at 5 makes me feel like I witnessed Lincoln giving the Gettysburg Address or the final game of the first World Series. Ok maybe not but with how immortalized this movie has become it feels like witnessing history for those of us who were there. I’ve wondered for years of people from a later generation could relate to a story where the “present” is before the viewer may have been born but that doesn’t seem to be a problem. It’s an ironically timeless story......also because what we think of as modern culture kind of started in the 1980s
Remember Doc said he was going 30 years into the future and he came back with the Mr. Fusion attachment and the flying car, etc. 30 years in the future from 1985 was 2015.

I was about the age of the teenagers in this film when it was released. I instantly fell in love with Lea Thompson, and have been ever since. I almost hope I never meet her, because I'd become an embarrassing, simping fanboy.

Far more time has passed from today 2023 back to 1985 (38 years) than the amount of time Marty went back in time 1985 to 1955 (30 years). This movie is a time capsule.

So many changes in the "new" future it's hard to keep up. The old "Twin Pines Mall" becomes the "Lone Pine Mall" because Marty killed one of the farmer's baby pine trees. The concrete ledge under the clock, not missing in the old future, is missing in the new future. The X Rated theater is now a church, etc etc.
WHATEVER YOU DO, when you watch part 2, STOP right at the end, because the trailer for part 3 is contained within the movie, sort of like a "next time, on" segment, since they shot the next two back to back. So unless you want to see scenes for the next part, make sure to stop it where it says "to be concluded".
That said, love the reaction. This is one of the best trilogies, if not the best ever made. You're in for a treat.
Originally, there wasn't supposed to be a sequel, and the ending was just meant as a joke. But due to popular demand, they pulled two spectacular follow-ups out of their figurative hats. That's the power of love!

I just watched your video on Predator and now this. Alan Silvestri composed the soundtracks for both movies and there are many parts between the two that are startlingly similar, and a few that are lifted verbatim. The movies are so different, but the music still works.

I mean George is not using anything _fancy._ He's using a set of _binoculars,_ as if the woman expects her privacy to be protected by _distance._
Second, I do the same thing, but I use the _Internet._ As Howard Wolowitz once observed, in an episode of _The Big Bang Theory,_ millions of dollars have been spent, developing the Internet and filling it with pictures of nude women so a guy has no real need to spy on his _neighbors._
I mean you can _scold_ a guy for spying on his neighbors. You can scold him to no _end._ But the only circumstances under which the practice _ends_ are those under which he has an _alternative._

Great review, I was a young kid and saw this in the theatre when it came out , great memories for me , most people I knew who grew up in the 90s made fun of me for loving these 80s movies , it’s nice to see you watching it with an open mind and enjoying the story in spite of some of the dated mentality

The teacher that said the music was too loud, is Huey Lewis. Marty was playing his song. I recommend Green Mile to others but I've never been able to sit through it. I get too emotional.

Thomas F. Wilson always seemed a huge guy when I was a kid watching these movies, but he's actually an inch, inch and a half shorter than I am now. Life is funny like that.
What you were asking about from Terminator is a Predestination Paradox. The events of that movie are a stable time loop. Back to the Future doesn't work that way. Each instance of time travel in this series causes at least minor changes in the timeline.
Don't wait to long to watch parts 2 and 3. This is one of the best trilogies Hollywood has ever made. Only the original Star Wars trilogy and Lord of the Rings trilogy surpass it.

There's actually subtle differences between '55 Doc and '85 Doc.
-For '85 Doc, Christopher Lloyd wears make-up to make his skin paler and wrinklier, and his hair is white and unkempt.
-For '55 He has no makeup and therefore has a younger looking face, and his hair is more blonde and well kempt.

This is considered a perfect movie, every set-up has it's payoff. It's used for screenwriting tuition.
(Size is not relevant to martial arts, being big isn't an advantage, it's all about leverage - just saying :-) and they had helicopters in the 50s.)
It's also about reaction time and situational awareness as well as the mental fortitude to do whatever it takes to defend yourself or others. No matter the size of the opponent, a good kick to the knee or groin will almost always end a fight immediately. Fight dirty, stay alive.

Shree!!! (Yes it's me again!) Marty didn't forget to bring plutonium. Remember when Doc was leaning on the car, getting ready to leave. And then Doc said, with a laugh, "What was I thinking. I forgot to take extra plutonium. How do I expect to get back?" At that point Einstein started barking, Doc looked over, and told Marty, "Oh no they found me!" They came and killed Doc, but no extra plutonium was in the car.

This is one of those predestination _paradoxes_ you were talking about. Marty learned the song from Chuck Berry, but they're implying that Chuck Berry also learned it from Marty.
