Back in the mid sixties, Herb Alpert inspired me to play trumpet. I could never get enough as I emulated him to near perfection. Eventually I studied Maynard Ferguson and other trumpet greats playing stratospheric music but I always carried Herb Alpert with me. I was never able to become famed because my whole repertoire was covers with only a few of my own creations. I eventually got throat cancer, survived it but that ended my thirty years of playing at the age of forty. Now I just listen and sometimes hum along in a low voice. Herb's music will always stay in my heart at age seventy. Thank you Herb Alpert for our many years together and the duets I always played with you in my heart and mind and in my dreams. I love Lani too ! Hi Lani !
Such a nice time of 30 years perfecting trumpet. So sorry about the ending with throat cancer. Hope that someday a better cure will come. I know in a faith background we look forward to new bodies in the new Jerusalem. You could jam with all the saints and angels then.

Dad was a trumpeter during swing/Big Band before I was born As a late teen getting awards, lauds, and attention as a woodwind player, he told me not to make it a profession, but do it on weekends. I think this was good advice. Like women, music gives great pleasure, but usually leaves you heartbroken & flat. Now 60, bought an ax & gonna get my chops back & see what's up. Blind musicians are supposed to do well, right?

Met Herb Alpert in 1978 while awaiting to board a flight at Winnipeg International in Canada. We chanted for about 10 minutes and he is so classy and what a talent ! Jazz is not easy to perform but he can do it all. The musicians in this video are top notch ! Great performance ...thanks for loading it for all to appreciate !
I had a big crush on herb alpert and no matter how old hje gets still he is my number one crush.... i listen to him everyday since high school, while married ,had a child , widowed and still i have a crush on him. Now im in my early 50s. I never skipped a day ,,,, stay healthy and i hope he luves the longest life. Lani hall must be very lucky.

RISE has always remained one of my favourite Herb Alpert songs since I first heard and played it as a young musician in the early 1980s. Such a powerful and lingering melody. 30-40 years on and still memorable. Thank you H.A. 🙏🏼

Always been my hero...nicer man you would never meet...Herb is talent in every regard...he really has given us more music than just his own through A&M Records and all the work he has done since. I grew up with Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass being played on cassettes during our family's frequent long car trips. Being a family of whistlers, it got pretty competitive! A pleasant gateway drug into the world of Spanish guitar and mariachi bands, followed by the current love of my life, la musica cubana. Gracias, Herb!
I grew up listening to the Herb Albert show once a week down under in Australia. He truly is such a great musician and always has such great backups. Appreciation all the way from outback Queensland.
It wont't go out of style. He remains one of the greatest trumpeters of all time. Current musicians do not have that flavor that made those sounds pleasant, today everyting is computer and electronic.

I bought my first HA album around 1965 and still love to Ballroom & West Coast Swing to Herb's inspirational music, especially the Latin rhythmns. He is a gentlemen, an extraordinary composer, arranger, producer, musician & corporate exec. He is a true renaissance musician. God bless you Herb!

I just saw Herb play at the Hollywood Bowl this past summer 2013 - he had a full house and that place seats more than 10,000. It was a wonderful and magical night. Wish they had filmed it for video.

Herb Albert is, at best, an above-average trumpet player. No Doc Severinsen, Maynard Ferguson, Bill Chase or even Al Hirt or Winton Marcellus here. However, that said, he is a musical genius! He knew what the average person wanted to hear. The kind of person who didn't care about Arban, triple tonguing, or double High C's! He brought entertainment to the masses the way no other trumpet player ever has! I respect him for that and love his music now more than ever! So, be a trumpet snob if you want to be, but to the average Joe, Herb Albert is a trumpet hero! Thank you, Herb Albert! You are the average trumpet player's hero and the most famous of them all! Not bad, not bad at all!

I loved this Herb Alpert CD Second Wind, along with Passion Dance; he showed he could play the smooth and latin jazz really well. Herb's been around a long time and he doesn't get enough props as a trumpet player. I have a home made CD of some of my favorite hits from him and the first few songs are in this order: The Lonely Bull, Rise, Second Wind, TKO, Route 101, Paradise 25, and I also included new songs of his latest CD along with Fandango, Tijuana Taxi, Mexican Shuffle, and Keep Your Eye on Me. Were talking 5 decades from a musician who plays easy listening, pop, funk, jazz, and everything in between; he is eclectic and stands the test of time. This concert is a great example of the sweet tone Herb has and how great that trumpet sounds over these jazzy rhythms. I love Miles, Dizzy, Ferguson, Doc, and many other trumpet players, but I don't hesitate to put Mr. Alpert on the list with those guys. He has strengths as a trumpet player in other areas that I believe deserve recognition.

Herb Albert is, at best, an above-average trumpet player. No Doc Severinsen, Maynard Ferguson, Bill Chase or even Al Hirt or Winton Marcellus here. However, that said, he is a musical genius! He knew what the average person wanted to hear. The kind of person who didn't care about Arban, triple tonguing, or double High C's! He brought entertainment to the masses the way no other trumpet player ever has! I respect him for that and love his music now more than ever! So, be a trumpet snob if you want to be, but to the average Joe, Herb Albert is a trumpet hero! Thank you, Herb Albert! You are the average trumpet player's hero and the most famous of them all! Not bad, not bad at all!

I loved this Herb Alpert CD Second Wind, along with Passion Dance; he showed he could play the smooth and latin jazz really well. Herb's been around a long time and he doesn't get enough props as a trumpet player. I have a home made CD of some of my favorite hits from him and the first few songs are in this order: The Lonely Bull, Rise, Second Wind, TKO, Route 101, Paradise 25, and I also included new songs of his latest CD along with Fandango, Tijuana Taxi, Mexican Shuffle, and Keep Your Eye on Me. Were talking 5 decades from a musician who plays easy listening, pop, funk, jazz, and everything in between; he is eclectic and stands the test of time.
This concert is a great example of the sweet tone Herb has and how great that trumpet sounds over these jazzy rhythms. I love Miles, Dizzy, Ferguson, Doc, and many other trumpet players, but I don't hesitate to put Mr. Alpert on the list with those guys. He has strengths as a trumpet player in other areas that I believe deserve recognition.
