Great Show. Curtis' classics, with this band!
Never seen David Lindley smile so much, and then his James Stewart impression! And back to Curtis.
Had forgotten or missed Taylor Dane, and what a fine discovery here.

That hollow neck guitar of David's is so wild .. Such rich, deep, thick tone .. I"m amazed other major guitarists have not given it a whirl ..

This show, imo, probably the DOPEST THEME MUSIC EVER!!!!!
Eternal rest to the 🐐 🐐 George Duke and Curtis Mayfield
Taylor Dayne…whew!!!! So underrated and yet an absolute FORCE!!!!

The final song, People Get Ready…I had no idea that Taylor Dane was in that league, but she clearly is. What an incredible voice.

Taylor Dane shreds it! And the Sanborn solo on the same tune is gorgeous!

I love how Jools just goes off, clearly not sticking to a word for word script. The yanks look so confused.

Note studio audience clapping properly on the 2 and 4 during Bon Ton Roulle. This was a show for an elite crowd.

Pusherman!! a big wow for that song!

  • @goodun6081

first up, Curtis Mayfield performing Pusherman, followed by David Lindley doing an acoustic lap steel solo version of Bon Ton Roulet, followed by a Shinehead performance, then Taylor Dayne singing the Stevie Wonder song Where were you when I needed you last Winter. Finally, Lindley and bassist Jorge Calderon performing Werewolves of London with the house band, and everyone joining in to do an ensemble performance of People Get Ready.

Kinda prophetic that David Lindley mentions Jack Nicholson alongside Lon Cheney and Cheney Jr. in the 'Werewolves Of London' rendition, considering Jack Nicholson would actually play a werewolf 5 years later.

THis could have been one of Curtis' last TV appearances before his accident about a year later. His music in the 80s wasn't as big as it was in the 70s.

thats tom barney, he took marcus millers place on bass and George duke as the musical director, marcus did episodes mainly from the 1st season and he came back one episode in the 2nd season to perform with miles davis i guess marcus was too busy to do the show ,his career was well established had alot going on playing, producing and composing for other artist and at 5:03 when Tom barney attempts playing the run for cover bass line was a dead giveaway that it wasnt marcus miller on bass
