      The BINDI has become a topic of discussion after the world saw SWATI MOHAN flaunting it during the NASA’s PERSEVERANCE ROVERS MARS landing announcement.
      We already have a video about why women should wear a bindi (ITS BINDU actually) - th-cam.com/video/Zg6t9HgJfEI/w-d-xo.html
      But what has happened is, we have moved from natural sindoor / KUMKUM to artificial Sindoor two generations ago to sticker bindis one generations ago to no bindi at all in the 21 st century (especially when women wear wester dresses). So essentially what was supposed to be worn all the while has been avoided completely. So the elders in the family at least wish to keep the tradition alive by getting the youngsters to wear a bindi at least during pujas and HAVANS. It’s very analogous to this chronic vitamin deficiency syndrome. Most people who have the problem don’t know they are deficient, so some people take multi-vitamin pills everyday and some people take it only once a while. It’s best if people take multi-vitamins regularly, if not at least once in a while which is surely better than not taking it at all.
      On the GHOONGHAT CULTURE, if you notice this is found only in the NORTHERN AND NORTH WESTERN regions of the country. This culture is not there in the south or east (Karnatak, Kerala, Tamilnadu & Andhra, Telangana, Orissa). So, you can easily conclude that it’s not a VEDIC TRADITION.
      This is because NORTH AND NORTH WESTERN regions were not only invaded by barbaric tribes from the west but also ruled by them. These tribes saw women as a commodity that could be used, abused, sold and bought. It was normal to kidnap helpless women of the territory these people invaded, kill the men and children and make sex slaves of the girls they found and take them back and sell them (human trafficking is not a 20th or 21st century thing).
      Even the practice of SATI and tradition of getting married at night started in these regions because of the same reasons. SATI was because women of these areas thought they were better off self- immolating themselves versus becoming sex slaves to these barbaric invaders. How does it feel to be a sex slave - here’s a contemporary account of a girl who was a sex slave with the ISiS - amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/oct/06/nadia-murad-isis-sex-slave-nobel-peace-prize
      So a practice like SATI that started as a last resort became a tradition and the rule of the land so this required intervention and had to be stopped.
      The practice of GHOONGHAT came into being to keep the women folk of the region away from harms way of these barbarians. The concept was simple - what’s “out of sight is surely out of mind”. So if you can’t see something, you can’t lust for it. It was very common for women to be kidnapped and raped and then thrown into the sex and slave trade. These barbarians would not leave even their own women - why do you think the practice of burqa came into being in these regions.
      So GHOONGHAT practice started of as a mechanism to keep women protected, which over time transformed into a practice of respect for elders.
      In the 21st century, it’s not required any more, ( cause there are no barbaric tribes invading these regions any more) but it’s still remains symbolic of respect to elders which has been extended to GOD too. Hence during pujas and HAVANS elders in the family ask youngsters to cover their heads with a cloth. It’s a tradition they don’t wish to let go off. Cause many don’t know why it started in the first place.
      Jai Shri Ram!

      @FiguringOutHinduism108  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well the Brahman janma comes to you because of past life karmas. If it has not come to you this life it’s for a reason. Some aspect of your persona needs work.
      Don’t look at a janeu as a social identity card. It’s not going to work for you.
      But if you are really sincere, it can be done. Infact our history is full of such examples - Valmiki was a dacoit who became a great Rishi who’s respected many millennia after his demise. Veda Vyasa was the son of a fisherwoman. So yeah it’s absolutely possible if you have the sincerity and dedication.
      Infact ART OF LIVING RUNS A UPANAYANA PROGRAMME where people come from all over the world - Indians, foreigners, men & women take part in the program and they will be made to wear a janaeu as per the Vedic rituals. But they do have some criteria to ensure you can live up to the expectations - bangaloreashram.org/upanayanam/

      If you're a follower of Santana Dharma and born in Bharat you can wear a jenoi, but remember you need to follow certain rules to protect, perform and practice Dharma.
      I think you should ask someone elder to perform the necessary rituals to wear jenoi.

    • @FiguringOutHinduism108
      @FiguringOutHinduism108  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, even Kshatriyas and Vaishyas did wear JANEAU. You need to understand that this is not about wearing a janeu. It’s about leading your life in a certain way.Even RAHUL GANDHI did wear a JANAEU while visiting one of the temples during his 2019 LOKSABHA ELECTION CAMPAIGN. But did people consider him a Brahmin just because he wore one. Nah! Whereas Modi even without a JANAEU is considered a SANYASI / KARMAYOGI. Please remember JANAEU is not an ID CARD that you show to others it’s there to remind you that you need to lead a disciplined life. VALMIKI the great sage who wrote THE RAMAYAN was a DACAOIT (RATNAKARDAH) who would kill and loot travellers but had a change of heart when his wife and children left him when they got to know his source of income. That made him very sad and pushed him into deep meditation so much so that ANTS MADE A HILL ON HIM. That’s why he’s called VALMIKI - born out of an ant hill. Even VEDA VYAS the author of MAHABHARATA was the son of a FISHERWOMEN - Satyavati. Please do remember RAVANA - the villain of RAMAYAN was a SAMAVEDA CHANTING BRAHMIN too. But the moment he gave up his Brahmin ways and started hurting others (kidnapping Sita to revenge the damage that Lakshman caused to surpanakha’s nose even though SURPANAKHA was the very reason for creating the ruckus by MISBEHAVING with LORD RAMA) his SOOM was on the HORIZON.
      I believe the soul gets the Brahmina janma because of past life karma. So if you are not a Brahmin in this life it’s because you do have some aspects in life that need to be worked upon to become a Brahmin - for example selflessness, altruism, vegetarianism (that can be tough for some people), non-alcoholism etc. Also, in this day and age if someone wishes to take up the Brahmin ways of life it’s still possible. ART OF LIVING runs a UPANAYANAM program which is open for everyone - even women and foreigners - here’s the link to it - bangaloreashram.org/upanayanam/
      But they have some basic eligibility criteria (just to ensure people attending the program have a way of life that’s close follows the tenets of Brahminism)

      Janeu sanskar usually needs to be done before 13 years of age.
      But you can still do it.
      I have my own cousin who did it at 17.
      In a lot of communities, they do it just before marriage.
      So you can do it. But they usually do it in odd years. So if you are 18 already then you will have to wait until you are 19 years old. Follow the tradition set by the elders in your family.

      Art of Living (Sr Sr Ravi Shankar) has a program where once in a year they do janeu sanskar for people - bangaloreashram.org/upanayanam/
      A lot of foreigners are part of that program.
      But it’s not easy to get in. They will ensure you are as disciplined as a Brahmin must be and only then allow you into the program.
      Being a Brahmin is not just about being disciplined but also about having a SATVIC mindset. You should not eat NON-VEG (avoid onion & garlic also if possible). Mentally it’s about being selfless. Stay away from greed or any kind. Live a simple life dedicated to service of others.

    Everyone in Brahmin community wears a Janeu.. Does it mean everyone has a purpose and everyone living a disciplined life? Will the community rule them out of Brahminism? Or will their parents marry that son/daughter to so called Shudra, as per their behavior? None of this happens..

    • @FiguringOutHinduism108
      @FiguringOutHinduism108  ปีที่แล้ว

      This video was an effort to make people understand the importance & real purpose of the “janaeu”. At least people who are looking for it.
      Please do look at the older comments and you will understand what I am saying.
      Also, we don’t have a concept of ostracisation.
      The community has not carried forward the traditions without any purpose.
      Yes, there are Brahmins who are not disciplined, they eat non-veg, drink alcohol. Such people have no clue about the brahminism. If you see eventually they will stop wearing the janaeu and they would get married to all and sundry. I have my own cousins who have done that.
      But then those who have held on to at least some aspect of it, the expectation is that they will learn more about it and try to become better - one step at a time. Being vegetarian is great for the planet - it will solve the food crisis. Cause we will save on the food that’s used as fodder. It can be a used for human consumption.
      It’s something to think about.

    why girls dont wear janeu

    • @FiguringOutHinduism108
      @FiguringOutHinduism108  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually women can wear janaeu. Infact when we do puja to Mahalakshmi or GAURI, the puja will have mantras to offer JANAEU - it will end with YAGYOPAVITAM SAMARPAYAMI.
      Art of living has a UPANAYANAM program which is open for everyone (but they do have a qualifying criteria). You may check out the details here - www.artofliving.org/in-en/node/76646
      But the important thing here is, women will have a lot of things to do - they are the mothers of the next generation of children and that’s the most important responsibility, so the upanayanam is secondary even to that.
      So the Upanayanam was not a mandatory thing for women. Also, the Vedas go to the extent of saying that whatever PUNYA KARMA the husband does, the wife will get 50% of it. And that was because no matter what children would need their mothers and that was their primary responsibility. We have stories of QUEENS who fought against the BRITISH RAJ with their child tied to their backs.
      So the karma that was required to be done after UPANAYANAM was not mandatory for women as it was given secondary importance versus all the things that the lady of the house had to do to keep the family is shape - physically, mentally and psychologically.
      Jai Shri Ram!

    Can a Muslim wear it?

    • @FiguringOutHinduism108
      @FiguringOutHinduism108  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, the question is WILL A MUSLIM wear it. They are quite dogmatic in their approach, so I am doubtful.
      But if someone wants to wear, they are qualification requirements - I know ART OF LIVING has a program where they do IPANAYANAM CEREMONY once a year, but they have their qualification requirements regarding you eating & drinking habits and few other things like lifestyle etc. You will qualify only if your mentor recommends aaya you are ready. I am told a lot of foreigners go through the ritual every year. So clearly they are non-Hindus - here’s more about it - bangaloreashram.org/upanayanam/
      Also, a real example of a CHRISTIAN DOCTOR (ONCOLOGIST) from Kerala (also the first oncology professor of Kerala) and head of ONCOLOGY AT KOTTAYAM MEDICAL COLLEGE came in contact with a SIDDHA VAIDHYAR (traditional doctor) who taught him something by which he saved the lives of more than 10,000 cancer patients who were written off by Allopathic doctors. he received the Upanayana from Suryakaladi Mana, and converted to HINDUISM & BRAHMINISM and dedicated his life to curing cancer patients. Things is NO NATIONAL OR MAINSTREAM MEDIA will tell you about this, as this DOES NOT FIT THEIR AGENSAS - dhinasari.com/news/228217-one-becomes-a-brahmin-not-by-birth-but-by-deed.html
      But an answer to your question is YES. A Muslim can wear a JANEU if he’s ready to lead a SATVIC LIFE OF HUMILITY, SIMPLICITY & SERVICE to the society.
      Infact I just remembered I have an example for this too - www.indiatoday.in/amp/india/story/former-up-shia-waqf-board-chief-wasim-rizvi-converts-to-hinduism-1884612-2021-12-06

      Your lack of life experience & absence of covilizational knowledge is the reason for your intellectual ignorance & mental bankruptcy.
      Do you know statistically 1st of Jan of any year is the date when an GUM gets the maximum enrolments. Do you know why? It’s because most people make new year resolutions and these gyms would stick them annual packages cause they also know 85% of these new people will not be there 3 months down the lane.
      This is a trend because even though people know they have to exercise, and it’s good for health and it has other benefits. Still they would not do it.
      Similarly, intellectual corruption & mental bankruptcy is like soil erosion. It happens little by little and then one day the damage is so big that it’s irreversible.
