    Thanks so much for sharing your untouched 1903 sniper rifle, and your knowledge to continue the study of the 1903 rifle!!!!!

    Excellent work, young man. You should definitely be proud of your work as a caretaker and archivist. And congratulations - it's a great find.

    What a beautiful piece. I have an "A4" type build on the way with a type C stock, but i love the streamlined S stock. It looks like an arrow in flight

    Though a lot of the information might be the same, it would be cool to get a look at your 1937 NM variant.

      Yeah I can do that. This weekend I should have some time to showcase it some.

    I'm building a clone currently for Vintage sniper competitions. Is the bolt the only part that is blued minus the scope? And with the bolt is everything that is attached to it blued as well, magazine on/off, safety and so on. Just trying to get my competition rig looking close to the originals visually. Not trying to replicate for anything other than that.

      Jonathan thornton my scope is on the way. It has been stuck in Corona jail for over a year. I had sent it out for repair.

    I wish you could write a book on this parr of 1903 springfield rifle history. But, unfortunately, the fakers will only use it to deceive. A great loss for those who appreciate and study the 1903 rifle!!!!!!!

    Did any of the model 70s make it to the Pacific or Korea?

      In an official capacity for the Marines or Army, the answer would be no. But in a private purchase situation anything could and did happen. Brophy was photographed with a m70 target rifle he took with him to Korea.

    Looking to build one. What are my options for an optic? I know theirs a Hi-Lux. Theirs a Lyman. What’s the $ of a real one

    • @FloridaSpook
      @FloridaSpook 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheTyler701 a really real original 8x usmc marked unirtl scope with rings and bases? I believe a few thousand. I got lucky and found a post ww2 unirtl 8x with rings, for less than a thousand.the hilux goes for close to 600

      I believe it! I built mine for CMP vintage sniper matches. So my rifle isn’t correct. My 8x scope and mounts are Unertl. Just not USMC. Which is good for me. I’m not trying to fake one to rip off an unsuspecting buyer. If I was doing over in 2021 I would get the Hi Lux with rings

      I have zeros for 300 yards and 600 yards. I have not taken mine out to 600 yet. My scope is being repaired in Ohio right now. I loaned it to my buddy and his son to shoot the 2019 National Matches. I have used 2 other 1903A1 rifles out to 600. There was a vintage sniper clinic in Quantico, VA that took them out to 800 and 1000. You have to have good dope and be able to call wind!

    Mine never had the front sight installed or the rear iron sights..

    • @cplnorton1
      @cplnorton1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Army 1903A4 never had a front or rear sight and I think you are probably thinking of that one. The Marine Corps one had both sights present as they were just a standard National Match

    Talk about rifles in books shown as being real but are not... have you seen all of the AI generated TH-cam channels now? Geeze, talk about blatant misinformation. It's indescribable.
