  • How to Make Screwdriver Cocktail. Drink Ingredients and Recipe.
In this video, you will learn how to make the best Screwdriver Cocktail.
You will know which are the ingredients and the recipe of classic Screwdriver Cocktails.
    Here's a recipe for a Screwdriver :
    Ingredients:
    1 - 1 1/2 ounces vodka
2 - Orange juice, freshly squeezed, to top.
Steps How to Make a Screwdriver:
Mix 2 parts orange juice with 1 part vodka.
Stir together in a glass with ice.
Garnish with an orange slice and cocktail cherry.
The Screwdriver is a classic combination of vodka and orange juice that has been designated an International Bartender Association official cocktail. The history of the Screwdriver is somewhat debatable, even though mention of it in literature goes back to at least the 1940s when vodka was first gaining traction in the United States.
Though uncomplicated, the Screwdriver is one of the most well-known highballs ever created. To this day, it remains one of the first cocktail recipes many ever learned, and countless people's introduction to mixed drinks.
    Who Invented the Screwdriver Cocktail?
The Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails places the drink's inception around the time of World War II when American civilians and servicemen abroad, unable to find a steady supply of familiar spirits like whiskey, took to cutting neutral spirits and Turkish vodka with orange juice to make them more palatable. The drink gained visibility as vodka brands like Smirnoff, seeking to gain a foothold in the U.S. market, began to incorporate the Screwdriver cocktail into marketing campaigns over the following decades.
The origins of the Screwdriver's name are less clear. One commonly repeated story is that the name resulted from factory workers stirring the drink with a screwdriver when a spoon couldn't be found, though little evidence can be found to support this. Coincidentally, a similar story exists about the etymology of the word "cocktail" itself-from early iterations that were allegedly stirred with a rooster's tail feather-as well as the Rusty Nail supposedly being stirred with, well, a rusty nail. If true, this all begs the question of why so many people throughout drinking history had such a tough time finding spoons.
Questionable origin stories aside, the cocktail's two-ingredient simplicity means it’s possible the drink appeared in multiple places around the same time, as people took to adding orange juice to whatever spirit they could find. After all, the Mimosa (sparkling wine and orange juice) had already been in rotation for a couple of decades by then, and it’s not a far stretch from sparkling wine to vodka.
Combining orange juice and vodka in a highball glass is about as easy as a cocktail gets and creates a base that’s ripe for experimentation, spawning later derivative creations like the Harvey Wallbanger and Fuzzy Navel.
    Tips
This is not the place for your best vodka (use it if you like, though). It's also important to avoid being too cheap when it comes to the single liquor used in any drink. There are many great-tasting and budget-friendly vodkas on the market today. Explore these options and find the best "well" vodka for your bar to use in drinks like this.
If you want the best screwdriver possible, use fresh-squeezed orange juice. It takes just a few minutes to get enough fresh juice for the drink. If you're going to use a store-bought juice, look for the most natural juice available.
    Recipe Variations
While the drink requires just two elements, some options can ramp up your average screwdriver.
Flavored vodka is the easiest way to add a spark of flavor. Citrus vodkas are an obvious option, though something with a little more contrast will add depth. Try one of the berry vodkas for starters. Either cucumber or vanilla vodka is amazing here as well. Experiment with your infusions; rosemary-strawberry vodka is a fun base for a screwdriver.
Orange juice has a natural acidity that can be combated with a little sweetener. To keep the flavor profile untouched, add simple syrup. If you want to bring in another flavor along with sweetness, take a hint from the tequila sunrise and add grenadine or similar flavored syrup, such as strawberry or raspberry-lavender. Just a small dollop of syrup will make a world of difference.
Lighten up your screwdriver by topping it off with soda. Club soda and ginger ale are two perfect options, though you may also want to consider something a bit more fun like Dry Cucumber Soda or Q Ginger Ale. Or take inspiration from drinks like the mimosa and add sparkling wine.
Before pouring your screwdriver, muddle a few pieces of fresh fruit in your glass. Berries add a nice contrast, and kiwifruit are an easy and fun addition. Lemon, lime, peach, and almost any fruit you can find will add a nice touch to this simple drink.
Instead of vodka, pour tequila and orange juice.
