    This video speaks volumes. And it is not just the way 19 year olds drink it. I used to go to an annual party with my parents. The guys behind the bar which was always an open bar would over serve the alcohol mainly because they did not know what they were doing. When you get a rum and coke and it is almost clear because of so much rum....poor form. I've even had some of the worst cocktails of my life when I went to very high end upscale restaurants. Places you would expect the bar tenders to know what they were doing. The drinks are almost undrinkable with so much alcohol. I am just venturing into the world of craft cocktails and mixology and thanks to this channel and a couple of others, I have realized how fantastic a well made, proper proportioned cocktail can taste. It can be a work of art that can be thoroughly enjoyed. So thanks for posting this video and all of your other videos. They have been great for me and very educational in my journey into craft cocktails and mixology.

      Greg, I am happy that I have been able to help you. I felt i needed to remind people that sometimes more is not always better. And how I was not sick as a teenager more often, I don't know. :)

    I agree with you about how you can add a whole lot of things to this cocktail, it's very much a blank canvas like a vodka soda. My current favorite ratio is equal parts Vodka, OJ, and club soda (1.5 oz each, usually a little heavier on the OJ), plus a dash or two of Ango and garnish with a slice of orange over whatever ice I've got.

    I love the amazing candour in this episode. Really simplifies the idea of getting ratios right when building drinks that are simply a spirit and a mixer. Takes me back to being 16 and having the endure conversation with the one guy who bragged about drinking vodka-cokes with half the glass being vodka...who also seemed to be having the least fun and would be unconscious before everyone else

    This is the best way to drink vodka in my opinion. You mix it very strong, only a splash of orange juice and plenty of ice.

  • @iainrobb2076
    @iainrobb2076 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The way I drink it is essentially a new cocktail I don't have a name for. I put 60ml or so of triple distilled vodka in a rocks glass, and add around a quarter of a small packet of saffron. I stir until the vodka goes orange, then fill the rest of the glass with a 2:1 ratio of fresh orange then fresh clementine juice. I leave a slight gap at the top for ice, add a lot of ice, then a whole star of star anise for the centre and a few pieces of the same at the edges of the drink. I stir for thirty revolutions to diffuse the anise, and to chill and slightly dilute the drink: then add a few thin half slices of apple, plus a thin apple wheel to garnish the rim of the glass. When you drink, you get hit first by the mingled scent of the apple and aniseed, then a vanilla like warmth overtakes you from the saffron mingled with the citrus juice. It's heavenly. I suppose you could always add a few dashes of Angostura bitters, or a capful of dry vermouth if you wish, but the drink is perfect as I'm currently drinking it.

    Not sure i get the purpose of having so much ice except for making the drink cheaper to make. 1 ice cube make the drink cold. All that extra ice will melt and in the end you drink mostly water.

    • @boozeontherocks
      @boozeontherocks  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The amount of ice also has to do with keeping the ratios correct. That way you don't swing the cocktail to far in one direction.

    This reminds me of Basil Fawlty and his inability to even visualize this drink when taking meal orders from guests, I guess being told "one screwdriver" made his mind click onto the hand tool instead of this drink 😂
    Oh and when we were teens we measured the same way with our fingers too, and just the right amount of juice to hide all the booze, good and crazy times those were, well at least the ones we remember 🤣

    I am drinking my second screwdriver rn and it’s perfect. The first one I made from the google recipe, which was 2:1 orange to vodka and ice (but it didn’t specify how much). I put one ice cube, 2oz of vodka and 4oz of orange juice and all it tasted like was bitter vodka. Amazing how much more ice and a better ratio fixes this drink.

    When I saw the title I was affraid this was going to be one of those "you didn't cut the orange the right way and u\you used the wrong temperature ice" kind of videos. I'm glad it's not. Some people think that a drink is only proper if it follows a specific recipe and those people desperately need to grow up. A recipe is a guide that you *must* adjust to taste and anybody who says "I got the wrong screwdriver" needs to tell the bartender how they like that drink to be made. If the bartender refuses, go to a real bar.
