    I am an airline Flight Dispatcher in the United States and my job is quite different from what it is in Europe. Ground Operations at the airports does what you describe the dispatchers do. As a dispatcher I plan the flights and then maintain communication with the crews while they are airborne in able to help them avoid bad weather or solve any problems your flight might be having. I don't at all get involved with the load sheets, airport operations, boarding of the aircraft or anything else like that. Here, operational control of the flight is shared between the Captain and the Dispatcher and together we make the flight happen.

      Flight dispatchers in an airline’s operations center are different from dispatchers at the ramp managing an aircraft’s turnaround

    In Turkey, we use the term "Dispatcher" for the certified airline staff who plot the route by checking flight permissions, WX reports, NOTAMs and calculates the Operational Flight Plan and file the ATC Flight Plan to Eurocontrol. The people that you have mentioned in your video is called Ground Operation Supervisors. They are responsible of organizing everything related to the services that an A/C needs during the turnaround.

      Its the way you described for almost everywhere except europe. Im the type thats the planner/watcher, and its funny when we have a flight in europe and the Ground Ops agent calls and
      identifys as the flight dispatcher asking to talk to the Flight Dispatcher.

      In the USA a dispatcher also means the same thing as in Turkey. A US dispatcher has joint legal responsibility for the flight (together with the aircraft commander).

      +ismail nouhi , as I understand from your comment you are a dispatcher. If you have a time could you be so kind and give a few ideas for my question below?
      Which psychological and personality qualities of the flight dispatcher are important: what psychometric tests usually they need to pass, which questions it is important to clarify during the interview, what kind of official background should they have etc.?
      Perhaps you know some web links with such information? In our University (in Germany) we are making a special report regarding evaluation of the person for flight dispatcher job and then we plan develop some further investigation based on this data within our scientific project. So this first step is very important and for making this report (methodological part) now we are gathering all possible information.
      I will try to ask some other followers, so if you do not have a time for answer - its ok! Thank you SO MUCH for your job! It is really so important for the whole process! :-)

    Nice video Mentour. I am a flight disptacher at Aerolineas Argentinas in Buenos Aires and i have to say that we do the whole package. We do the flight planning and also the weight and balance of the flights that i dispatch. And most of the time, we do briefings with the crew before they accept the flight plan. Is like dispatching in the old days.

    Flight dispatchers in United States do not work at the airport or around the airplanes. They work from the headquarters, planning routes, run complex calculations for aircraft performance, file flight plans with the ATC and mostly importantly share the responsibility with the PIC of the aircraft

    Hi. Great video first of all. I am not sure if somebody has mentioned it yet, but there are two small exceptions. First, the task of a dispatcher does not start when the check-in opens but much earlier: when the aircraft we have to service on departure takes off on the other end we get the messages regarding "what's coming in". We istantly get to know what is loaded in the holds and needs to be offloaded and about the passengers load, special services included, messages like extra servicing to the aircraft like ASU, toiletring or water tankering, and so on.
    Second exception: it is true that is great to work with flight crews, and some of them make your day. Some other do not really seem to appreciate our job.
    Regards
    LHR

    Dear Commander, I have been seasonal flight Dispatcher or TRC, and weight and balance too.
    I do not hold a full contract I apply to any airports in Italy and the rest of the world.
    I love this job so much, even though we are paid less than 1500 € monthly, equally as someone selling fruit at the market, with fewer responsibilities of course...
    As you know.... we are the first to be on line dealing with problems briefing crew and always thinking minutes ahead on things to do.
    Many underestimate and underpay our job thinking it is the same as many other clerical jobs, but it is far from the truth.
    Printing the load sheet is like swearing to the pilots that weight and balance are within the limits, the fuel quantity is accurate if dangerous goods on board ,they are carefully loaded and all official manifested documents coincide.
    Many aren't aware and others don't care about our role,but we are to blame about anything Just After the pilot.
    Covid-19 has put us into a bad fix, this year......we're at home, and for the most of us...... the future is uncertain.....we'll see!
    Cheers

    Think you may want to give an update on Aircraft Dispatchers..I was one with a major carrier and you sure did not see me darting around on the ramp, in and out of the aircraft. The following is a quote as per Wikipedia which pretty well sums it up..
    quote "A flight dispatcher (also known as an aircraft dispatcher, airline dispatcher, flight follower or flight operations officer) assists in planning flight paths, taking into account wind direction and speed, weather, storms, aircraft performance and loading, landing conditions at destination or alter airports, and other conditions. Dispatchers provide a flight following service and advise pilots if conditions or paths change. They usually work in the operations or control center of the airline. In the United States and Canada, the flight dispatcher shares legal responsibility with the commander of the aircraft (joint responsibility dispatch system). A dispatcher must be certificated by the aviation authority of the country in which they operate or have a base of operations, such as the FAA/DOT (Federal Aviation Administration/Department of Transportation) in the United States. In order to obtain a certificate, a candidate must demonstrate extensive knowledge of meteorology and of aviation in general, to a level comparable to the holder of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.The FAA ATP and the FAA Dispatcher (ADX) written exams are similar. " end quote
    Most of the dispatchers I worked with were fully qualified pilots...

      +Mentour Pilot Thanks for you quick response however I am quite sure that you will find that even in Europe major carriers require the same qualifications as they do in the USA and Canada. +Mentour Pilot Yep that sure is a lot of reading and I was aware that there was an ongoing government look into the differences. I believe though that since you are doing a video on "Aircraft Dispatchers, what do they do" you should at least provide both sides of the coin as per a quote from "Job profile and training requirements for European Flight Dispatchers
      "As North America alone is responsible for about 40% of the world’s air traffic, it can be assumed that globally approximately 50% of today’s flights are operated under a system of operations control with joint responsibility of licensed dispatchers."
      I can pretty well tell you that if any of your viewers were to apply for a job with any major carrier in USA, Canada, Europe, Middle East etc. based on the info you have provided their resume would be filed accordingly..
      Take Care..Regards Chet/

    I used to be a Flight Dispatcher working for Alitalia in Rio de Janeiro and was responsable for the Operational Flight plan, LOAD controller, ramp operations, calculation of crew allowances $, hotel reservations, bus transport in and out, crew wake-up and pick-up times, reclearance flight plans, 3 hours flight watch of arriving and departure flights and some other activities...
    This dispatcher you have showed us is not supposed to be licensed. Aircraft dispatchers or Flight Dispatchers, where the state requires, must bring a license issued by the Civil Aviation Authority as per ICAO annex 6 chapter 10 as well as their minimum training sylabus discribed in other parts.

    • @ultrasupremeleader
      @ultrasupremeleader 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      karthick jason you only need a high school diploma. You’ll need to complete the certified 200 hours FAA approved course from a FAA approved dispatch school. You take an ADX which is just the ATP essentially - just renamed for dispatchers. It’s a frustrating exam which covers most hypothetical ridiculous situations you might encounter, all the while including questions from the 90s still. Just memorize the answers for the ADX. Many programs aid you in doing so. After that, and assuming the course was completed successfully, you take an oral exam with an FAA examiner to brush over the topics covered in the classes. It’s about a 3 hour oral. My best piece of advice is to get the ADX done FIRST. You need to score 70% to count as a pass. You can’t continue any course without the ADX being passed. Whilst in the course, ensure you completely focus on weather. It will continue to pop up throughout every single topic you cover.
      That’s about it. Study hard. It’s a tedious course. I did a 5 week “boot camp” course (people call it boot camp because 5 weeks is the minimum time you can cram those 200 hours in, many choose to complete their courses in 3-6 months)... finally having your temporary certificate (and getting the real deal later) is rewarding as ever

      About the lights below 10 000ft ASL they are mandatory and above usually are turned off. Flaps are retracted by schedule and it is different, depending on the type of departure you are doing and instructions from the controller. But I think that 500/750 ft AGL is normal for strarting the retraction

    Captain, I have a question that maybe you can use for the next video. "what could be happen to the pilot if his or her plane got an accident? is he/she will get punishment? or what?" thanks before.

      @lMrPivotgamerl 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it wasn't the pilots fault and he landed safely, then he is rewarded, however, if he creates the problem, he's dead.

    • @9LimaAlpha7
      @9LimaAlpha7 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically, If it wasn't his/her fault (pilot error) and he lands safely he will be rewarded and congratulated, even if he didn't land the plane, the investigators would of known that it was something else that caused the plane to crash, such as: maintenance failure, engineering error or even terrorism. An example of this was the Concorde operated by Air France on 25th July 2000 when it was on route from Charles De Gaulle airport, Paris to New York city. There was a strip of metal caused by mechanical failure on DC-10 fell on the runway. As the Concorde sped down the runway, the foreign object ruptured the tires which then flew and ruptured the fuel tank in the Delta wings, the raging inferno burned at more than 2000 degrees, hot enough to melt the entire left wing. The plane was engulfed in flames and soon stalls and crashes in an airport hotel. The plane was rocketing up at 200 miles/hr which meant that the crew couldn't abort the take-off because it was past their V1 speed, to fast and too dangerous to stop the take off. the plane was rocketing up at 200 miles/hr. All the 109 people and 4 crew members aboard the doomed flight were dead among with other 4 people on the ground. On the other hand, if he created the problem him/her self, It's going to be a major risk of him getting fired by the airlines or even suspending his license. Bare the in mind that this depends on how dangerous the situation was in the air, as well as on the ground. An example of this occurred on 1st June 2009 when an Airbus A330-203 was on route from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to Paris, France operated by Air France stalled mid way through the Atlantic ocean and crashed. All 216 people & 12 crew members are dead. The cause was pilot error. This mystery of this accident took nearly 2 years to solve. Because all the vital and crucial information was recorded in the CVR & FDR, which had to be recovered from the bottom of the ocean (4 km deep) so that it can be analysed.I hope this answers your question and many others as well. Sorry if this answer was too long and detailed, but hopefully this gave you a brief idea of what would happen.

    Hello Mentour, I ve got a question for you, but I don't know if you've already talked about this: I'talking of ACARS, what are they, what do you use it for and when do you use them?(or it, I don't even know of it is plural or singular😁).

    • @prudhvibharadwajm6297
      @prudhvibharadwajm6297 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Davide Costa hi there! to my knowledge ACARS is actually aircrafts communication and addressing, it's actually a data link between the air traffic controllers and the pilots inside the specific aircraft. They generally use the ACARS to update the weather information when the aircraft is airborne. They form uplinks with the aircraft and transmit the messages over VHF. ATC now a days using ACARS to send the arrival and departure information.
      hope it helps. : )
      Regards

    A flight dispatcher is licensed by the FAA they do not run on and off the airplane and talk to the crew a lot of times they are separate from the airport all together they actually build the routes planning based on whether fuel load Etc you need to find out what dispatchers really are before you comment on it

    Hi,
    i am thinking about a flight dispatcher training course, because my atpl theory credits does account for all theory training and all i have to do is a 3 month training course. Since it is quite hard for Pilots to get a job, whats your opinion on that topic? Do Airlines hire Dispatcher and advance them to Pilots or would an airline not be interested in a dual licensed pilot?
    Thx in advance!

    This is confusing as a flight dispatcher as per ICAO Annex 6 CFR 14 Part 65 and CFR 14 Part 121 is completely different. Perhaps you can do a video on a licensed flight dispatcher rather than a gate and departure coordinator? Need a hand look at www.flight-dispatch.net Cheers!

      +DivineSpine , as I understand from your comment you are a dispatcher.
