My (African American) father was stationed in Germany when he was in the army. He learned German, picked up on British humor and TV while stationed over there, and got really into Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and other classics over there.
He later came back to America, married My mom, and raised my brother and I in the south Bronx during the 80's with all of this.
I believe I was the only kid in all of New York singing the Holzfäller song in German in first grade.

I have the tendency to remind people (whenever a distant relative died that they aren't too upset about) that people are most likely to die on (or very close to) their birthday.
As a baby, when they are born, the chances of complications or things going wrong are the the highest in the first two weeks.
As a child, they are most likely to push each other near the birthdaycake, with flames, or wear a costume that can go up in flames. They have activities like swimming, there's a crowd of kids around them and even though they are the centre of attention, the statistics show the chances are higher that something will go wrong, because people try to organize a lot on their birthday.
As a teenager, because you feel invincible, especially when you reach the drinking-age. If you've had alcohol before, it might not lead to coma-drinking, but if you're American and you haven't been allowed alcohol and now, suddenly, you're allowed *all* the alcohol, you might kill yourself with it.
You will perform more tricky stunts on your birthday, show off, feel pressure to do something silly or dangerous (because you're the centre of attention and people egg you on) and you get a bit reckless and shouty and the chance of an accident is bigger.
As an adult, the chances aren't that big, but you might get a heart-attack from organizing everything. You've got a house to take care of, children or pets, your job, your spouse, yourself, a mortgage or car or whatever. And then you have to organize a wonderful birthdayparty so your mother-in-law can come over and tell you exactly what you did wrong.
It might happen before or after you had the party. Or you're the type of person to try and entertain people, throw spiritus on the barbecue and set yourself on fire. Either way, the perfectionists and the jokers are in danger.
And as an elderly person, the chances of it all being 'too much' and giving you a heart-attack are higher as well.
And there is a common tendency for old people to want to reach their birthday. They wait half-a-year, until they finally reach their 78th and then they die peacefully in their sleep. Or they are ill and wánt to reach their 80th or..whatever. And then they feel like they can go.
Either way, you are more likely to die on your birthday. Have a good day!

Some British poet, I think Sir George Bernard Shaw(he had some other damming indictments to pass on humanity as a faulty organisation as well, gotta love that guy, Americans can probably think of him as a British Mark Twain), had a very similar saying, I use it all the time...
it was basically your typical dial up to the ever more so increasingly depressing assement of the universe, and namely of the patterns (intrinsic to &definitive)of human life as an aspect(paradoxically self-sustaining and grimdark...like going full meta narrative between Warhammer 40k universe and real world troubles of companies like Games Workshop,
      and also Blizzard,
and most recently Activision too, alas)
thereof, where you just learn to expect some turn around as you would have in most American sayings and such...
      but
      it
      just
      never
      comes...
and then you're just sort of left floundering and awkwardly hanging...just like life
