    AFX loves 24volts +. 2 deepcycle car batteries with charger . 700 cold cranking amps . No voltage lag for anyone . We ran 6 lane track 28’ long 8’ wide over 2 and a half scale miles . We used Parma controllers with 45ohm resistance. Jumpers both ends of the straights for the 6 straight always . Banks also had jumpers in the middle . Start track jumped also Never had any issues . Used 18” aftermarket , 15”, 12” flat AFX turns . Fudged the 12” banks for the outer banks 9” ,12”, 12” with a lot of fiddling around with the straight track sizes to keep it looking tight as possible . Took a month to build by myself including table with 3/4” ply 2x4 construction with 4 foot transitions to and from the banks .lots of soldering underneath. A stock AFX would do about 25 mph @ 2,250 scale mph . Allowed racing gears and gravity magnets . Stock motor only . 5 -1/2 second laps . Insane and way fun . Ended up moving though and my buddy has it now better than ever .

    No. please don't use steal wool to clean your track ! It is DEATH to these little motors. Steal is attracted to the magnets in your motors. Loose metal particles in a moving machine..... Steal also rusts, as you know and will cause you much grief. Use an "eraser" made to clean model railroad track. Then wipe it down with alcohol.
    You and your son are in for some great times with slot cars. I have been "doing" slot cars for over fifty years now and raised three kids on them. My son, now 23 still races with me at several of our local clubs. Good luck and have lots of fun guys !

      I never used it. I found 320 sanding blocks that someone used in another video, and then cleaned them with alcohol. It worked great. The cars went around the entire track the 1st time, no pushing needed.

      @@StockpileHobbies Oh good, I have used the foam sanding blocks that are sold in beauty supply shops.

    Do not use steel it is attracted to magnets! Try copper pads instead. Copper is non magnetic and softer than your rails.

    Steve,
    The charger isn't a good product. I've tested it with a multimeter and believe the unit is dead. EBay seller horrible customer service. The original link also used by Harding Creek Slot Cars works but as you noted is unavailable. I used a charger from a portable breathing machine. Only works at 19 volts.

      I've been using both versions for about 8 months now with no issues. 1 did have a bad power cord from the wall outlet to the charger. Make sure this is not the case for you.

    I have a dumb question. Im 45 and had a few of these Tyco race car tracks when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, the cars had a needle like pin on the bottom of them that went into the slot on the track. The newer ones they sell in the stores have brushes on the bottom of the cars. My question is does anyone still sell the cars like the ones back then with the pins in them or do they all just come with the brushes? Or am I all the way wrong and the cars didn’t have the ones in them? I’m trying to find something as close as possible to the ones I grew up playing with.

      The tyco cars had the metal guide pin, along with some other brands. Yes the newer auto world cars come with guide flags, and actually work better for those cars on the tyco track. I've tried swapping them for the metal tyco onces, and given those car's suspension the flag guide pin sits further down in the slot than the metal ones.
      You kind find the tyco cars on ebay and other sites. Thanks for asking, and please subscribe!

    • @StockpileHobbies
      @StockpileHobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to have consistent power so that when 1 car crashes all of the power doesn't go to the other car and make it also crash, yes

    • @soula551551n
      @soula551551n 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StockpileHobbies just wondering as I've noticed people only use one of the big power supply's for both lanes. Why do you need two laptop chargers I thought it was to do with the amps and not the voltage? Sorry if this is a stupid question, thanks for the help. :)

    • @StockpileHobbies
      @StockpileHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soula551551n Its generally used to prevent all of the current from going to one car after one has crashed. When 1 out of 2 loads is removed from a circuit, the remaining load (car) gets a boots of electricity. This usually causes it to also crash
