    One of the best to ever do it! With the right team, he could've easily won more!

    Great piece, I am telling my age here but in the late 70's early 80's dw was as good as anybody in any giving era, especially short tracks like bristol, Martinsville, etc that sucker was tough to beat

    I need to get ahold of this guy. I live here in owensboro and have found an old relic im sure he would LOVE to see. Its from the beginning of his racing career at the salem speedway in indiana. I have found a racing log with his signature in it and i really want to know what he thinks about it.

    Bill France the 3 Rd was the beginning of the end of nascar ..this dude couldn't even behave him self .. ends up have to leave nascar in charge to a sister .. they left the roots of nascar .for a bunch of Corp. People to own everything .an when they change the pts. System .. it has sucked since . An now Nascar is nothing but a political tool . Period .they care very little about tradition an the past . It's turned in to a rich boy sport now .some can't even drive a wheel barrel but got money so they can drive . An now barley get a a full field . Maybe half of the fans now . . I don't even watch it anymore .. but I do enjoy watching all the old racing .an anything to do with it .. those days are when men where racers .. I meet Darrel in the 80s at Oxford speedway . Maine he was awesome.

    I spent 35 minutes relating a WALTRIP story involving HIM, STEVIE and I at an INDY 500 RACERS event at NASHVILLE SPEEDWAY. DARRELL wore them out, BUT then USAC spent some HOURS trying to DENY HIS WIN.
    FINAL OUTCOME , way after midnight , USAC gave up, PAID THE PURSE and LEFT TOWN.

    Its hard to make out on here but if you look at the picture of the DDI directly above the passenger headlight on the black 57 Chevy, there sits a guy that is suppose to be on a motorcycle...but the artist didnt paint a motorcycle under him. He just sits there in mid-air.

    How did it work out for those guys who left Jr and went to M.C. Anderson? M.C. Anderson ended his racing operation at the end of 1982 when Cale Yarbough would not sign back to M.C. Anderson.

    For some reason all this time I thought he was from either Alabama or GA. He's a yankee lol.... who knew!

      Lmao seriously? Im not really sure exactly on how you’re classifying being a “yankee” but as a Kentucky boy myself I must say you need to go back and learn your history and geography. We’re definitely not Yankees here in the bluegrass. For one thing we’re south of the Mason-Dixon Line which that in itself proves you’re obviously mistaken🤷🏻‍♂️

      Well Ky fought for the north, hence Yankee. Owensboro is pretty close to Indiana but he moved to Nashville pretty quick! So he is both a bit.

    How in the hell does a kid afford a chevy chevelle ss396

    • @joeyjohnson4826
      @joeyjohnson4826 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cost that much back then man cars weren't that expensive. I mean all is relative but. My father-in-law for example as a young man in the Navy in the late 1960s. You name any of those 60s hot rods he probably owned it. Building hot rods driving Street Rods back in the day if you had a job you could afford it... the Chevelle with a popular car they're all over the damn Grace. Of course the one with the bigger engine SS it was a little more expensive even when I was a kid growing up in the late 70s and 80s cars were different. People that drove little Japanese cars we make fun of we called them rice burners. Before the mid-1970s all you saw on the roads were Chevys Fords Pontiacs LOL a Chevy Chevelle with like today's Honda Civic LOL or Toyota Camry

    • @Calebmason13
      @Calebmason13 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well actually I have 2 things to say…first off back in the day when DW had his Chevelle while yes they were nice cars especially his being the 396 SS they weren’t nothin overly the top special I guess you could say like they are today obviously. I mean brand spanking knew they were only like $350 which would be like $2,500 in today’s money. So yeah they were relatively cheap even by the standards back then really. But if you had been listening to Darrel talk about his first real job which was working at Don Moore Chevrolet here in Owensboro he said Don Moore gave him a car to drive which I would say was that 69 Chevelle! And in 1969 DW would’ve been 22 years old which I agree that’s still a kid really but in terms of havin a nice car that’s actually pretty obtainable especially at that time obviously!
