Omg I was saving tin cans and one day I said why and tossed them! Hahaha I’ll start now again! So cute. Thank you. Great idea After listening, I’m glad I tossed as they were the sharp tops.
Wow! You packed so much information in this video! I love all the finished cans and can't wait to try this for myself!👍Thank you for the inspiration!😊❤😊
Thanks for the great ideas! Your cans turned out beautiful! I've been saving cans for bouquets at the farmers market. These will definitely take them up a notch!
Love these. Have just started doing this. With the pull top tins use tin opener to remove the sharp edge I did this with mine and they are good to use.
Thank you so much Joan-Marie, I really really enjoyed watching you create those tin cans , and I really really love ❤️ how they look. And the rice bed, is a terrific idea 💡 too. I subscribed and given you a thumbs up 👍 too. Please stay safe and well too
I knew some of this but the rice bag is fantastic!! New sub!! I have cans saved and want to do them. Thank you for all of the ideas. They are beautiful!!
Thanks for inspiring me! I like it as you are not only showing ways on how to decoupage the tins but also to share other tips on decorating the tins with other materials. With love, from Singapore.
Hi Ruth! Everything takes a bit of practice but my videos are for those who are new to decoupage. I’m excited for you to start a can today! You’re so welcome from Jersey! 😊💕- Joan
First time on your channel, first time learning about decoupage, I appreciate you showing us your favorite brands! So I wouldn't forget the brand or color, I was trying to take a screenshot, but everytime I tried your hands were in the way so I couldn't see the label. I'm not trying to be mean, but hopefully this is a helpful hint for you. I love all your helpful hints! Thank you! 😊
I show the products up close in my newer videos, I was just starting. Plus I list all the products I use in the description box, you can ask me, I’m very responsive. Thanks for watching 🙂
We moved a bit rural in Southern California in retirement. I was shocked the recycle of greens and goods is not picked up. Everywhere else we had 3 bins. So been saving tins. I use them in my workshop as is but this is a great idea! I was also given some books from a lot. I had offered to buy the old ones but he gave them to me. Some from early 1900s but i looked up. Value is hardly there for not damaged. So I’m going to use pages from those. Pretty unique dialogs back in the day!
Sandra Reitnauer never mind I did see your lovely tin can, it’s a little too early for me, lol! You did a wonderful job and I’m sure you I’ll want to make more! Thanks again! - Joan ❤️
Thank you for your video's. I get so many tips and tricks. One thing I also do is use the little cups for my modge podge so I am not dipping the brush in the big container each time, I also purchased a lazy susan so when I am painting something and can just turn it while I am painting. Love your work.
Thank you for your wonderful tips especially for those who don’t go through Mod Podge like I do! I clean out the jar and refill because I buy it by the gallon. It is also a great idea to put paint into a small dish as well. Paint gets contaminated too. Yes I love the lazy Susan idea it does make spray painting a lot easier. I think I will need to add these tips to a video and I appreciate your share! Thank you so much for watching! - Joan 🙂💕
Hi Joan-Marie Domino... I love watching your videos... I want to start decoupage on tin cans but I wonder what to put inside the cans so it doesn't rust... I want to put natural flowers in them... TIA
Most cans eventually rust. It makes sense because the dirt inside is always moist. You can try Rustoleum or go to a hardware store and ask if there is something better. - Joan
Hi... I'm watching you for the first time and your cans are very pretty, I look forward to watching you again. My question is, could you add some things to the cans? Your napkins are very pretty, could you add lace along the bottom of the can, or add a pretty fluffy bow of ribbon on the handle, and finish it off with an aged pretty tag, sorry only means to positively accent your already great projects...Renee in Colorado
I’m about to do a decoupage project with my elderly mother in law so this video is so helpful. Is the Rustoleum sealant to be sprayed on just the outside of the can or the inside of can as well? I have the PodModge spray can, is that okay to use as sealant?
You need to spray the inside and outside of the can if you want to put a live plant in it. However the can will still eventually rust. That’s ok with me I have several like that right now sitting on my patio. Or just put faux flowers, pens, spoons, etc. It’s very sweet that you will decoupage with your mom! I love it! Enjoy! ❤️ Joan
Hi Joan. I found some really cute coffee fabric and I want to decorate a coffee can with it. Do I need to chalk paint the can first or just use a sealer before applying the fabric. Thank You.
I applied the napkin all the way around very carefully and filed off the excess napkin. I cradle the can in a basket of rice and do half at a time. Joan
Hi Jackie! I got it from Vippies but it was a couple years ago and their inventory is always changing. They have coffee and tea napkins coming up but I’m not sure if it’s the ones I used, they may be discontinued. Joan
Great tutorial, it gave me confidence to start a new hobby. My question is have you ever painted or decoupaged the inside of the can? Would the technique be different? Thank you
Yes. You would need to seal it very well with a waterproof uva sealant. I think Rustoleum makes one but you can also ask at a hardware store. If it rains a lot it or sits in water, damp soil, it may not hold up. You can try. - Joan
You should paint the can before adding napkin. If you mean preventing rust from a live plant or being outdoors then spray Rustoleum on the inside and outside of the can first!- Joan 🙂
These are so nice. Thanks to you, I've started doing these. Hard to find really pretty napkins but I have a collection started. Thank you for sharing💕💕

beautiful.. i initially thought they were handpainted too!
Hi! That’s one of the things I love about decoupage because I can not paint. I can still create something beautiful! Thank you for watching! - Joan 🙂
Love these. Have just started doing this. With the pull top tins use tin opener to remove the sharp edge I did this with mine and they are good to use.
I now use the can opener that cuts from the side which also has no sharp edges. Plus now I have a lid that fits the can perfect! Joan
Thank you so much Joan-Marie, I really really enjoyed watching you create those tin cans , and I really really love ❤️ how they look. And the rice bed, is a terrific idea 💡 too. I subscribed and given you a thumbs up 👍 too. Please stay safe and well too

mary parks thank you so much! Your words inspire me! 🙂
i save all my cans bottles and jars
Me too! I have many more then I’d like to admit, lol! 🙂
Thank you for making a terrific video - the paper napkin prints are ALL beautiful. These are an inspiration. What type of sealer do you use?
Hi Carol! I use clear spray Rustoleum or Krylon. Joan
Question: when you paint the can before you add your decoupage- like the Pink can, are you using all chalk paint or Matt spray paint?
Hi! I don’t use spray paint so it was acrylic matte. Joan 🙂
- Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino thanks a lot for your quick response
You’re welcome. Also for the smaller cans I use plastic cups inside like a liner. The plants quickly grow out of the smaller cans, good luck! - Joan
They look so pretty ! I will make this for Mom as a gift for Mother's Day!
Thank you so much! Your mom will love having this especially because you made it for her! 🙂❤️
Beautiful work I saw one where you did the cutting board one I wanted to ask can you wash the cutting board once you decoupage it
de
Hi Angela! I do a quick wash/wipe and towel dry right away. I don’t put in the dishwasher 🙂 Joan
Hi... I'm watching you for the first time and your cans are very pretty, I look forward to watching you again. My question is, could you add some things to the cans? You can embellish the can anyway you like! Once you learn the basics make it your own. Thanks for tuning in 🙂
I’m about to do a decoupage project with my elderly mother in law so this video is so helpful. Is the Rustoleum sealant to be sprayed on just the outside of the can or the inside of can as well? I have the PodModge spray can, is that okay to use as sealant?

Thank you so much! Your decoupaged canisters will be a wonderful addition to your kitchen! - Joan 🙂
Hi Joan. I found some really cute coffee fabric and I want to decorate a coffee can with it. Do I need to chalk paint the can first or just use a sealer before applying the fabric. Thank You.
Hi Jackie! You don’t have to paint the can if you are using fabric. Just put Mod Podge on the can and apply the fabric. 🙂 Joan
How did you apply a full napkin without cutting it? Like the coffee one.
I applied the napkin all the way around very carefully and filed off the excess napkin. I cradle the can in a basket of rice and do half at a time. Joan
Beautiful!!!! Where do you get your napkins?
Hi Donna! From Vippies Designs www.vippies.com 🙂 Joan
How beautiful, is it possible to paint on the can itself and thus save paint and start painting and how can you preserve the cans thanks
I provide step-by-step instructions here th-cam.com/video/6lrd7bN4O_c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0RGx7NKL15Kp92Mh
HI Joan. Love these cans. Where did you find the coffee napkin? Vippies doesn't have it. I would love to make one for myself.
Hi Jackie! I got it from Vippies but it was a couple years ago and their inventory is always changing. They have coffee and tea napkins coming up but I’m not sure if it’s the ones I used, they may be discontinued. Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino Thanks Joan. I'll find something.
Using fabric on glass and cans do you use paint on them and do use mod pod to glue the fabrics to the can or glass ??
Hi! I don’t use paint when I use fabric because normally you can’t see thru it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful video, I learned so much!
I’m glad you enjoyed my video, thank you for watching! - Joan 🙂
you explain nicely
Hi Sona! Thank you so much and I hope you will give it a try! 🙂- Joan
Where do U get All your pretty napkins?
Vippies Designs www.Vippies.com
Great tutorial, it gave me confidence to start a new hobby. My question is have you ever painted or decoupaged the inside of the can? Would the technique be different?
Thank you
I never decoupaged the inside but I have painted the inside. Usually I put something in them so I don’t bother painting. 🙂
I’m in the UK, can I ask what ceram wrap is please. I’m wondering if it’s what we call cling film 💕💐
Saran Wrap (brand) is also referred to as plastic wrap and cling film! - Joan
Do you still seal with the spray when you use the other products like wrapping paper and washi tape?
Hi Jacquelyn! No I do not seal wrapping paper unless it is on a rock. I don’t seal washi tape but I hardly ever use it. Hope that helps! - Joan
Ok 👍
Could i decopage onto a stepping stone and then seal?
Yes. You would need to seal it very well with a waterproof uva sealant. I think Rustoleum makes one but you can also ask at a hardware store. If it rains a lot it or sits in water, damp soil, it may not hold up. You can try. - Joan
Can I use polycrylic or polyurethane to seal it? Thanks
Polycrylic can be used - Joan
I noticed different decoupage glue at my hobby store. Which do you suggest?
I have only used Mod Podge. Maybe you can google for reviews? 🙂 Joan
Nice! Was the lemon paper on a pink background, or did you cut very close to the image?
The lemon napkin is on top of pink paint, no cutting
@@JoanMarieDomino it looked like the napkin had a white background. How did you get it to blend so well?
Practicing blending paint
Do you need to prime the inside and outside of the raw can first? Cheers from Australia.
