    I don't feed my lorikeets any seeds, you will lessen their life span that way. I actually have a video on what to feed your lorikeet, check it out some time.

    Best way to keep the scratches away is a large concrete rough perch, blunts the claws slightly. I found out mine was a girl thanks to her laying an egg. Lorikeets are nectar eaters seed isn't good for them. Charlie has a bowl of dry mix and fresh fruit/veg every day, she won't go near wet mix.

    • @marlowe3414
      @marlowe3414 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      PinionKing Good tips, but a concrete perch actually isn’t the best because depending on how grainy the perch is, small bits of rock can get wedged between and in their little bird toes and that can cause some pretty serious health probs

    I want one. I seriously want one. I´m doing a lot of research about them: their health, behavior, eating habits, diet, personality, daily routines, health care... I know they´re extremely playful, they´re bitty, they want to be with you all the time and... they´re messy... very messy... their droppings can be like paint and splash everywhere because they´re nectar and fruit eaters. It´s what they eat. No seeds at all. Their stomach muscles are very weak so they can´t digest seeds. They need a constant intake of nectar, polen, fruits and veggies. Seeds can (and will) kill them.
    I think a lorikeet can be perfect for me since I´m not a very social person. I mean, I have my friends, but I hardly travel and I like to spend my weekends at home doing things, so I can give him/her a lot of attention; and since their diet is so healthy, I think that can benefit me as well forcing me to eat even more veggies and fruit. I imagine sharing them with him/her hehehehe!
    And poops... well, I can be optimistic and think that having to clean so much can help me to have a tidier house hahahaa!

    Harmony is just sweetened flour. The ONLY powder recommended is WOMBAROO - recommended by the bird vets at Currumbin Samctuary. My lorikeet loved wrestling with empty soft drink bottles. No seeds for lorikeets ever!

      Ian Gard I feed my lorikeet Trill pet lorikeet mix, and a purée containing apple, plum, and banana along with his food mix and some water, he goes crazy for it :) He’s only about 8 months and he’s completely tame, he’s driving me mad but I wouldn’t have it any other way :)

      I have a red collar Lorikeet. Bickie will be 3 in February and no eggs so far. Total goofball, but I can't live without Bickie. Bickie has a cage on wheels, so I can wheel him outside most days. He yells and screams to all the wild birds. It also tires him out plus the fresh air is really good for him.

What the heck? I make fresh organic food for my birds, I sprout my own own grain, I provide a very balanced diet but I’d like to know as much about Loris diet, as an alternative to the store bought nectar, if anyone knows, please share, thank you for sharing all your knowledge your passion much appreciation

    I like your eyes, very pretty! And it’s nice to see a parrot owner that for once isn’t trying to deter people from getting parrots when asked this question. Every parrot owner I see who gets asked this always says how they’re way too difficult and far too much work, “oh believe me, I have 10 parrots, and despite parrots being absolutely amazing to own, they’re just far too much work...” It’s like.. what are they saying,no one in the world can handle owning a parrot; yet, they own 10 lol, what makes them so special- I saw one once that said “these birds are awesome, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend this type of bird to someone who’s never had a parrot before to just run out and get one, and I wouldn’t recommend someone who’s had parrots to run out and get one.” It’s like ok who then? Who can have one? I understand they just love their animals and don’t want people to impulse buy a parrot and then neglect it and give it away because they underestimated the work. Some people need to hear that but then they never follow up with “but if you’re absolutely ready, then definitely get one! Just make sure you’re ready!” None of them do that, they all just end on “nope they’re too much work, don’t recommend it.” I want to get one myself and am certain I can handle it. I’m not going for a lorikeet though, they would be tough for me as I’ve never had a bird of any kind before- but I’m going to get a cockatiel and I can’t wait! Anyway, sorry for the long rant, and Thanks for the informative video!

    • @Nacho_Ferrari
      @Nacho_Ferrari 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Potty training. You have to set some strategical places around the house and show them to him. You carry him to them, and each time he drops on that place, you reward him with his favorite treat. Parrots are extremely intelligent and he´ll understand very soon. But remember: reward him when he does it right, but don´t punish him for dropping on other places; that´ll only lead to him losing trust on you. Never punish bad behavior, don´t yell at him and of course don´t hit him. If he does something wrong, ignore him or return him to his cage, but don´t punish him. Reward for success, ignore for failure. That´s positive reinforcement and force-free training. Parrots are very clever, so careful with what you teach him. Good luck!

    you can tell the gender of most birds includeing rainbow loreketes by feeling the hip bone at the surface,the girls have a bigger gap.According to a crazy bird lady I know the boys are more mummies boys as well.They dont eat seed and they can die like that,they have a brush toung and seed wears down the hairs that they would use to eat.It doesn't grow back. They eat fruit primarily (apple,oranges,strawberry,water melon),so cut them up into a size that is grabbable and see how he goes.I know this becuase I volenteer at a wild life sanctuary and have a fair deal of expierence,Im also full of myself.Thoes mixes are a bit like bread,a little is good,if its all they eat it isnt and they like to chew.
