Brandon Franklin was the saxophonist for TBC Brass Band. He was killed at the age of 22 on Mother's Day in a domestic dispute. He was a good young man, talented musician, beloved by all. He was honored with a second line parade led by his fellow musicians

You hear the music, but you don't hear the story. A man lived with his fiance and two kids. One kid was his, one was from the victim Mr Franklin. The guy and his fiance got in an argument before he left for work... a night job in NOLA and he carried a firearm because that's a dangerous ass town at night. He comes home and she won't let him in and calls the police. They tell him she don't have to let him in but she has to let him pick up his things later when everybody cools down. He comes back later and most, but not all, of his stuff is out in the shed and the victim, Mr. Franklin is there. Witnesses testified that Mr. Franklin said "What you gone do now? Oh, and that gun you got, imma make you use it today" and physically confronted him at the shed. The encounter was broken up, but shortly after, he asked for his tv and PS and Franklin met him at the door antagonizing the situation and an altercation happened during which the man who lived there until that morning dumped a full mag from a Glock into Mr Franklin and fled. He turned himself in to the police two hours later claiming self defense. He was charged with murder-2 but found guilty of manslaughter-1 and sentenced to 30 years without possibility of parole. They were both about the same age and both fathers to children by this woman. Absolute tragedy all because two guys both tried to be the bigger badass in front of a woman. One young man dead. One young man facing more years in prison in front of him than years he lived behind him. Two kids that loved both guys lost them both. The woman testified at his sentencing that he'd never been violent and it was a terrible situation and the kids wanted him out of jail. I don't know what that fight was about but I bet everybody thinks it was some small bullshit compared to how that day ended.

Thanks for sharing the story, that's exactly why firearms shouldn´t be for personal defense, tragedy like that are less likely to happen in places were guns are restricted to military and law enforcement. I live in Rio, danger here is day and night, having a gun only increases the risk of lethality, not the other way around.
